glorioso
Can you hook up any pedal to the pedal 2 input on a hd500x. If I wanted to use my vox crybaby instead of a second expression pedal, would it work?
Digital_Igloo
You could of course use your Crybaby as a wah pedal into the guitar in. Or if you prefer to place it anywhere in the signal chain, use the HD's FX loop. Personally, I use EXP 2 with a Mission Engineering EP-1L6 to tweak five or six parameters at a time. It's bugnuts fun to crank the tape delay feedback, drop the delay time, boost the reverb depth, bring in a bit of the sub bass, and nudge the fuzz up a bit—all at once.
stumblinman
No, it only works properly with an expression pedal with a 10k pot in it. There are a few out there that will work, but the exp2 jack is not an audio input and cannot be manipulated by a standard wah/volume pedal. Can you hook up any pedal to the pedal 2 input on a hd500x. brian6string
You can use your CryBaby in front of you HD500: guitar --> CryBaby --> HD500, just plug it into the Guitar In jack, not exp 2. This works great--I prefer my trusty/dusty old CryBaby too. Exp 2 is used for a standard expression pedal (like Mission Engineering, Line6 or even NosePedal.com) to control just about any parameter within a patch. Only problem is the Crybaby sounds great when you're using it, but it's not true-bypass, so the second you turn it off it becomes the star of "Attack of the Tone Sucker". In my experience, it robs you of so much high end that it's almost unusable. Check out the Fulltone Clyde or Clyde Deluxe. They cost more...you'll spend neighborhood of $200 on them (little more for the Deluxe), but at least they won't rob you of all your highs. Yeah I guess that's true unless you mod your CryBaby...many of us do for that reason. The mod is simple and about $10 for the DPDT switch. To my ears, nothing compares to the tone. What if the guitar is a JTV-59 and I want to connect to variax VDI input instead of the input on the CryBaby?
radatats
What if the guitar is a JTV-59 and I want to connect to variax VDI input instead of the input on the CryBaby? You would have to put an FX Loop block in your signal path and connect your CryBaby there.

Rewolf48
Probably not quite what was wanted, but if you have an old Cry Baby you could always change it into an Expression Pedal: http://www.strymon.net/2010/09/07/strymon-tech-corner-2-build-your-own-expression-pedal/ On this discussion they talk about the above and about just building your own from spare parts http://forum.fractalaudio.com/mfc-discussion/33526-hack-crybaby-expression-pedal.html
