RobertStapleton
I backed up my Helix Stomp before updating. Part of he update process leaves you with the default settings so I went through those and found some things I liked. I wrote down the patches and all the parameter settings of the ones I liked to try later, then reloaded my backed up sounds. That all went smoothly. But when I added the new amp patch with effects and entered their parameters into an unused patch on my Helix it sounded different than what I had heard when it was downloaded with the default sounds. I can't figure out why. I kept the amp/effects sequence and settings the same. It's not just a volume change - the new sounds are duller as if the eq was different. But I was careful to copy all settings within each effect. Any thoughts and why things have changed?
brue58ski
I don't really use the Global EQ but I think it can be turned off and on on a per patch basis. Maybe that?
rd2rk
The update process only reverts to "default settings" - I'm not sure what you mean by that - if you fail to complete the process by performing a Factory Reset after the update per the update instructions. You must then perform a RESTORE, which brings everything (Global Settings/Custom Presets/IRs) back to where you left it before the update. If you want to retain any NEW presets added in the update then you export those presets before the RESTORE.

Do you mean the Factory Presets? If you want to restore the Factory Presets perform a Factory Reset. On the HX Stomp you do this by holding down FS 2+3 while powering up. This restores default global settings, factory presets, and factory IRs. After doing this, rather than copying down values, simply Export the presets you are interested in. Then Restore your backup file. When you want to experiment with those factory presets simply Import them again. There are many reasons that your manual procedure may be inaccurate or incomplete. Rather than worry about that, do the above.
RobertStapleton
Thanks everyone! Yes at the end of doing the system update they encourage doing the power up reset that you mentioned and I did this. That's when the factory presets appeared. I hoped that there was a way to store the ones I liked but didn't know the export method and am unclear on where that would export to. Seemed like a Catch 22, if I'm looking at the factory presets when I hit export, I can't see my own preset list to export to. Does it export to a storage area until the user reloads their own preset list or is there another alternative? Sorry for my ignorance in this area. For the record, I'm a huge fan of the Helix Stomp. I play a cigar box guitar through it and the infinite number of tones helps me get the CBG to sound close to a regular guitar.
silverhead
You use the HX Edit program to export the preset. There will be an option to specify the file location for the exported preset file. The default is somewhere specific but I change that for my own file organization purposes,

Hi, The next time you open HX Edit, click on the “question mark a white circle” in the lower left of the GUI window. There you will find a link to the HX Edit Pilot’s Guide, which is a downloadable Adobe Acrobat pdf. This contains all the relevant information you may require for editing and managing your presets. Hope this helps/makes sense.
