frstrat
Will the VDI carry the signal from the magnetic pick ups? I've been using my JTV with a Pod X3 but an considering moving to the Pod HD500X. Thanks for your thoughts, and patience.

darthplagis
try the 500 before making the jump.....some people prefer the X3.for me i need the dual tone feature and the connectivity options are better with the X3 (i use for guitar and bass)the only extra functions the 500 brings via VDI, are better connections (use workbench via pod) and ability to assign tuning changes to patches.i like having variax on one path and mag in another..... send acoustic variax model to PA and mag side to amp :)
Benni2407
I also prefer the X3 Live because of its routing options. The X3 Live allows you to route a signal to the mixer, that is not changed in volume despite of what you do with your monitor volume on stage. So I can control my monitor sound myself without disturbing anything in the FOH sound!
kmulvihill
OK, so with VDI, there's never a need to run a separate 1/4" phono out of the guitar as well then, right? VDI carries both. I didn't realize that... and wish to confirm. Thanks in advance.

videoman77
Here's another nube question! Whats the purpose of sending the mags to amp and models to PA?
clay-man
Here's another nube question! Whats the purpose of sending the mags to amp and models to PA? acoustics should go through the PA and not an amp. It'll color the tone of the acoustic sound.
edstar1960
acoustics should go through the PA and not an amp. It'll color the tone of the acoustic sound. Yep that's right clay-man - the acoustics model a mic'd acoustic and that sounds authentic and best when played through a Full Range speaker system such as a PA - a guitar amp only has one speaker and a more limited frequency range that is ideal for electric guitar - hence the reason that the mags get routed to the guitar amp as that is where they will sound best. I'll be using the HD500x with this guitar. XLR (L) to the PA and 1/4 out to mic'd amplifier? And the HD500X will know the difference on a patch by patch basis? edstar1960
so how do you accomplish this? I'll be using the HD500x with this guitar. XLR (L) to the PA and 1/4 out to mic'd amplifier? And the HD500X will know the difference on a patch by patch basis? If you have a JTV connected to the HD500X via a VDI cable, then you can assign INPUT 1 to VARIAX (which gives you the model) and INPUT 2 to VARIAX MAGS (which gives you the magnetic pick ups on the JTV). You can assign this setting as GLOBAL or PRESET (patch by patch basis). On any patch that is set up like this then you can choose to blend the 2 together into one common path or keep them both separate and running on PATH A and PATH B and separated at the MIXER to have L go one way and R go another. You can decide per patch whether you are using both sounds simultaneoulsy or just using one or the other. You can also program things so you can use the expression pedal to move from one sound to the other from heel down to toe down. You will have lots of choices and loads of flexibility.
jandrio
set the HD500 2 "Studio Direct" mode, send the 2 XLRs 2 the console and u r done! 4 live situations, if ur patches r well designed, the final sound delivered w ur audience will be excellent I dare say even BETTER ! WITHOUT using a tube amp. u may use the amp as stage monitor if u wish, by feeding the pod's 1/4 out 2 the amp's effect loop return. c more vids with patches for using the HD500 direct to PA @ : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3b7kXW444v4OpNy_vQaMFL1K9nPUittG
