Just realized my terrible case of auto-correct earlier - the plugin is called MixIR2, not mixing. There is no test tone needed. You just load what you want and blend them as desired and then export. The only catch is that you need a DAW to open it in. It's latency as an IR loader is low enough that I can plug in the helix via USB without a cab block, then add the plugin and audition/tweak the IR blends in real time before exporting. It's true that you can create IRs with something like Reaverb too. I personally found it worth the $50 for the ease of use. Your mileage may vary.

Redwirez makes an IR loader than can do this. It's called mixing and is available at their website. It's $50 on its own, or included in their big box (which has a ton of IRs included) for $150. It works with any IRs in WAV format. There are 6 blocks for IRs and each block can have up to 5 IRs in it. You can blend the levels and mix percentage of the IRs and once you get something you like, export it as a new wav file. This is how I've been doing IRs lately.

If you want the delay and reverb to stick around when you kill the volume, the volume block needs to be after the amp but before the delay and verb

I used a Roland EV-5 and Yamaha FC 7 with the G system, but have been getting on just fine with the helix's built in pedal. Do you have the rack? Both of those pedals served me ok, but I don't know that I'd recommend either. The sweep on the Roland was really narrow-worked well for wah but not really anything else. The Yamaha was nice and smooth, but kind of jumpy. I'd put it toe down and it would float between 95 and 100% instead of staying put.

Awesome. Happy to hear it. I had a rather complicated 4 cable/midi setup back when I used a G system for my rig, so setting it up with the helix was a breeze. Getting my head around the midi at first though was a bit of a learning curve.

Cool! Your midi ins/outs sound right. Are you saving your snapshots every time you make a change? Like, set CC value on snapshot one - save - set cc value on snapshot 2 - save, and it's still not working? In my particular setup, I'm using midi program changes instead of CC messages. It looks like the mini amp gizmo supports that and it may be a bit simpler. Program 1 could be just the switch for channel 1, program 2 for channel 2, etc. I know definitively that those work in snapshots. The CCs probably do too, I just don't have familiarity with them.

I can take a stab here... When you put the reverb and delay in parallel, are you merging the paths back together before the volume block is inserted? If the volume block is before the merge, you'd still be getting the parallel portion of the signal regardless of where the pedal is. If that part is set up ok, then this may just be your effects loop. I've had amps in the past where the stuff in the effects loop can bleed through even when the loop is off. I found a thread elsewhere about this phenomenon with mesa loops. This may be what you're experiencing. http://www.sevenstring.org/threads/mesa-boogie-roadster-fx-loop-bleed.249333/ I believe unity gain on the helix is to have the volume knob all the way up (not 100% on that, but I think it's right). It could be the compressor causing you to hit the amp a little harder than you usually do, or there could be some kind of level mismatch somewhere else. Are fx loop 1 and 1/4 out set to instrument level or line level? I'm not running an amp gizmo, but I am running a voodoo lab control switcher to change the channels on my amp and it's the same concept. You will definitely need to use command center here. Even though the amp gizmo is switching the channels, you need the helix to send midi commands so the amp gizmo knows what you want it to do.

I'm currently using an M5 with the helix and it can do more than just switch the presets. It does switch the presets, of course, either when you change the helix preset or with each snapshot. It can turn the individual effects on and off, send tap tempo info or sync via the midi clock feature, and the helix can control the expression pedal input. It takes a little bit of midi know-how to get it up and working. There's a guide to the midi implementation here: http://line6.com/data/6/0a060b316ac34f0593fca717b/application/pdf/M9%20Advanced%20Guide%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20A%20).pdf The M9's midi stuff is a little more involved than the M5's, but that's just because there's more stuff the M9 can do. It would be great to have these effects in the helix, but I think including one of these units is a really good companion to the helix.

It sounds like the output of both paths is set to the same thing (probably 'multi' or USB 1/2). You will need to set the output of one of the paths to a different USB output. Try setting the output to USB 3/4 on a path, then choose Helix USB 3 (or 3/4 if you are recording in stereo) as the input for one of your tracks in the DAW.
-
Sounds good from a bird's eye view, but let's learn a little more about your preset/global settings. Are you using the XLR or 1/4 outs? Where's the big volume knob on the helix set? A picture of your preset(s) could help too.
-
Yes, that should work. I've triggered snapshots from midi in a few different ways - from my Daw and from the helix itself in stomp mode - and both worked. Neither is exactly what you're describing, but I don't see why it would work differently if you're sending the right values.
-
That's correct.

USB 7 is the default output that will be dry for reamping later. Since you already have your DI track recorded, you don't need to use USB 7/8. Try this, because it's worked for me in Reaper - set the hardware output on your DI track to USB 3. Then on the helix set the input to USB 3/4 and the output to USB 1/2 (or multi would work). Then on the track you're arming to record, set the input as USB 1/2. This should be in stereo.
-
The unit shouldn't have come with IRs. What you're probably seeing are the options for 1024 and 2048, which are just the sample rates you can choose. Once you pick one of those and put it in your chain, you'll be able to choose the specific IRs that you loaded
-
Sounds like the preamp is being bypassed. Do you have whichever Helix loop you're using with the amp inserted into the chain?
-
Let me know how it works for you!

If you have your output block on the helix set to "multi," it will automatically route that signal to USB outs 1 and 2 as a stereo pair.So you shouldn't have to change anything. If your output is set to 1/4 inch, you'd need to switch it to multi or USB. It's a great setup. I've got my regular 4 cable helix/amp/cab rig together, but if I want to record silently, I just unplug them speaker thru from my load box and I'm all ready to go
-
When I record my amp, I use the helix as my interface. That way, once the amp is loaded down, I just disconnect the speaker cab and run everything else as normal. I just record that output over USB and add the IR usually in my DAW. Since it sounds like you're using a different interface, the plan you laid out sounds right - line out from the torpedo into your interface and then IRs added in your DAW. There is a little bit of a tradeoff - adding the IR in your DAW will add some latency when you're monitoring, but it will give you the flexibility to tweak the IR however you like after the fact.

After doing the 2.20 update, I forgot to change the PC Send Receive to "off" and had this exact problem. Switching it off fixed my issues with recalling the PCs

You will have to map a button to send the midi command for tap tempo in command center. But you can assign that command to footswitch 12 which is already the tap tempo button anyway

Helix into power amp of Jetcity JCA50h, q's about EQ
mfalkler replied to DirtFarmer's topic in Helix
I've got this same amp and have struggled with the EQ. I have read that the 20 and 100 watt JC heads have the effects loop post EQ, but the 50 watt is different for some reason. When I was plugging direct into the fx return, it was just aatter of finding the "flattest" possible EQ settings for the amp and then doing the rest of the adjustments in the helix. I love the amp, but I've found it to not be ideal for uses like this. -
I just started setting up my presets this way - so I could go just to an amp and cab or straight to the PA or both without having to save different versions of all my presets. I'm only using 3 of the effects loops for external effects, so this works great for me. If you're using all 4 of the loops, you can't really do this. But I insert a loop send at the end of the signal path right before the cab/IR and have that send going to the power amp input on my amp. This way, the entire signal other than the cab or IR is going to your amp but the full signal including the cab/IR is going to the XLR and 1/4 outputs.

The Brit Plexi models are the 2 channels of a super lead head.

The 1024 and 2048 are just the two sample rates available. Once you select one of those for the IR block, you should be able to select the specific IR you want with the IR select knob.
