  1. Are the JTVs still going to be in production? I'm still considering getting a JTV instead. Like I said, I need a maple fretboard. The fretboard is a dealbreaker for me, it's what you play on and feel under the strings. If the Variax Standard isn't going to have that, then I'm not getting it. I'm not going to void my warranty by replacing the neck either.
  2. I might consider getting that Yamaha Variax over a JTV. For the love of god please tell me I can get a maple fretboard with this.
  3. I've personally gotten used to it, but I know what you mean. I'm surprised Line 6 didn't program things like this. It's so simple yet so convenient to be able to do these things. I'm thinking of switching into ABCD mode and remaking my patches to correspond to this setup. I used to just use Up and Down to scroll through Guitar Rig's presets when I used a "MIDI footswitch" to change presets. I was hoping I could do it on here so I could use footswitches 1-8 for FX. Doing 2 footsteps instead of 1 is actually a lot to do just to switch a tone live, it should just be 1 step.
  4. Is there any way to scroll through the presets on 1-8 Footswitch mode using the Up and Down buttons without the list showing up? It would be nice if I could use 1-8 footswitches for FX and use the up and down switches to change patches instantly but right now I have to hit the arrow switches then hit one of the ABCD switches. Is there anything in the options to allow this?
  5. Glad I didn't get it for my Variax 600. There are other tremolo stabilizers out there.
  6. 12 strings and alt tunings both use pitch shifting events to transpose the notes. All pitch shifters have latency, whether it be a lot or a little. However, since you're doing alt tuning AND 12 string, there is a possibility that they're 2 separate events, hence doubling the latency. You can try to mess with firmware updates, maybe the newer firmwares have improved latency. Make sure that if you're using a DAW that the latency on your DAW is at minimum as well, or else you're adding even more latency.
  7. Basically I'm asking if I can switch between 2 different amp drives with a foot switch instead of the expression pedal. I'm guessing there's no way. Using volume control just makes the clean tone sound thin so right now I have the expression pedal control the drive of an amp with the toe switch turning on the big muff pi. I'm surprised you can't assign the FS switches to these parameters.
  8. So I want to switch between clean and distorted on the amp with a big muff pushing the distorted tone, it makes it sound a lot fuller. Is there a way to switch between 2 drive levels via a footswitch? I tried just using a volume pedal to clean up a dirty amp but the drive dialed in low sounds 100 times better than a volume peddle quieting up a dirty amp. It sounds very thin and has no body. I don't want to use an expression pedal because I want to simplify the switch. Is this possible?
  9. You have fine posts, I just don't agree with your order what guitar modelers are the best. I can't speak for the other modeling guitars, but if Line 6 is using sensors and convolution, you can't get much closer unless there's other techniques to capture the tonal variables of a guitar that are better, but ultimately convolution is the best technique.
  10. What Steve said. Super glue to secure it, but a small drop to be able to remove if needed.
  11. The attack on my variax on the E string is very plunky compared to the rest of the strings. This complaint has had multiple topics about it. A lot of them alluding about the mass of the big E string, but the fact is that this doesn't happen on all Variax guitars. I put a few layers of tape between the piezo and string to try to dampen it but it's still there unless I turn down the treble on my POD. Wasn't there until I cleaned the piezo with contact cleaner and actually replaced the piezo (still there). Just wondering if I could get info from you since you work on the guitars.
  12. You could try something like that, but ultimately the old Variax isn't going to light up like the new ones. Try to put the patches you need close to each other and remember where they are.
  13. You loosen the strings, take off the trem springs, then unscrew the bridge posts. carefully disconnect the ribbon cable and you should see a circuit board on the trem block. find the piezo that has the problem, desolder it and solder in a new piezo that you can buy from fullcompass. Reassemble and it should be fine. I did it twice. one for the D string one for the fat E string.
  14. You could always buy electrical contact cleaner to help it ground better. Even then, it just requires a small solder job, easy to do. I did it twice on my 600.
  15. It's an issue that should have been solved when the JTV came out honestly.
  16. The piezo won't give any sound without enough tension on the piezo. If you don't tune to E standard on your 9's it's most likely it's not getting enough tension so you either need to go back up to 10's or tune to E and use the virtual tunings.
  17. just use one of the acoustic models and capo mode, mute 2 other strings...
  18. Honestly I don't know how you could say those are better. It's obvious that Line 6 is better in the tone department with it's piezo bridge and sensor techniques. It's pretty much Guitar Profiling more than modeling.
  19. I've tried it and it never works well for me. It just sounds like an EQ of your guitar to try to match it, and honestly it kind of is. I've tried to imitate the demo over and over and over and still it sounds really off and nothing like the guitar or the demonstration sample of the guitar. Either I'm doing something wrong or that demo is sketchy. Regardless, the problem lies within trying to model something upon normal guitar pickups which have limited frequency response and can't fully sound like another guitar because of this. It's why the Variax uses piezos.
  20. Using a VDI will bypass any coloring that a guitar cable would induce, as well as coloring from the D/A converter on the Variax, and instead would rely on the POD's D/A converter. VDI should sound better than 1/4 in theory, but I highly doubt there's much of a difference. I didn't really hear anything when switching from 1/4 to VDI.
  21. 500 USD for a maple fretboard black JTV 69s please
