  1. So I plugged in my Variax through the 1/4 again in hope to see any improvement. Well, there is some, but not much. The signal is faint, very faint, but at least I can hear it. I tried moving the guitar a bit and there were times when it got a little louder. Anyone know what could happened? You think a repair center can fix this?
  2. Keep waiting for an answer, do not do anything to your guitar that can damage it or void the warranty in cause you need to replace it.
  3. The Shuriken stuff sounds cool but the price is way, way, way too high. They better not stop making JTVs or else I'm going to have to get one used. I did see the Korean factory where the JTVs are made in a Rob Chapman video where he's working on his guitars in the studio, so I assume the JTVs are still in production.
  4. It sounds like a mic'd up acoustic to me, but it is kind of muddy. You can compensate with EQing. I tried EQing the old firmware to make it sound like a mic'd up acoustic but it really don't pull it like the new firmware does imo.
  5. Maybe exclusive outside the James Tyler guitars. Just double checking. That's pretty cool though, I wonder how you strike a deal like that. TwelveFootNinja, good luck on your Variax, I'm for it! I can't promise I'll be purchasing it anytime myself, but I hope it opens up the Variax for people who don't want the 3 main models. You ever do a maple fretboard butterscotch Tele with a strat trem and it'd be my dream guitar :P
  6. Are you getting it directly from Line 6? I know Parker did that before.
  7. Oh ok, good. As much as I love the modeling, I think switching to mags should be a standard on modern Variax guitars now. What guts does it use, the JTV one?
  8. pretty sure the best ears around here are the "ears" they used to capture the convolution of the guitars they modeled. The strat sound doesn't sound synthetic or fake, period. The problem is the specific strat they modeled. I highly doubt Line 6 would botch capturing the convolution of a model out of all the other models. They most likely A/B test the guitars after going through the sensor process to make sure everything went correctly.
  9. Alternate tuning knob is very practical as well if you're like me and don't like wasting bank spaces on having copies of guitars you already have on the variax, tuned differently.
  10. Ever since I got both rechargeable batteries, and a POD with VDI, all of those problems ceased to exist. Weird crackling never happens at all. Noise when switching models is gone. Noise when Workbench is loading the models is gone. It's obvious the A/B switch has grounding or signal issues. Thanks for the reply though.
  11. When loading the models in old workbench on my old Variax, the Variax outputs raw piezo until all the models are done loading. Removing the VDI during this process will make the Variax stuck on piezo sound until you turn it off and on again. I'm not sure if this works with the JTV or new firmware. It's probably not recommended either, but it does work, and proves that the Variax can output raw piezo sound. The best thing to do is suggest Line 6 to allow bypass of modeling, or at least the pickup modeling.
  12. You have the right to be frustrated with having trouble with getting a proper working guitar. These things are something that while we rather not have this problem at all, if it does come up, you feel like it should only happen once. Sometimes people have bad lucks with these guitars, and there is a legit concern about the quality control of their products, but once you get a proper Variax, you're all good to go. I think sending defective units is a good decision. I had a faulty switch which was fixed by contact cleaner, but sometimes stuff like that doesn't work, and doing stuff like that could void warranty, so best to send it back.
  13. Sweetwater sounds like the best place to get a JTV from what I've heard from basically everyone. It's definitely the place I'm going to get my JTV.
  14. You can boost it to your preference, but I suggest making sure you don't have any clipping going on. Putting the sound too loud will record clipped input in your DAW.
  15. Just remember to not lower them so much that it affects tone in a bad way. One example is that the Sitar will not drone/resonate at extremely low string volumes.
  16. Use a different USB cable. Disconnect everything except for the USB and power cables. Try it then.
  17. Definitely send it to an authorized place. You don't want to try to fix something you're not completely sure about and messing it up even further. It's a whole new beast from a typical electric guitar. It's a computer too basically.
  18. Try the new firmware and see if that fits you more than the previous modeling.
  19. The looper function is probably one of the things I think that falls short with the POD. I hope they improve the looper function in the next POD they make. The problems I have with it are: -No saving -Timing as mentioned -Routing inside the POD. It's kind of useless if you're using 2 independent split channels. It's fun for a simple Loop function, but ultimately can't be used for looping in conjunction with a band, or in your case, backing tracks.
  20. Will never agree with this decision that Line 6 made. Could of easily gotten a 500x and saved me so much trouble and pain with dealing with a sketchy 500 unit, and they'd actually profit from my purchase.
  21. That's mad awesome. Your guitar would honestly probably be my ultimate dream guitar. 69 Variax with the humbucker, sunburst body, and that awesome fender-esque maple fretboard/neck with the decals. You sir have the ultimate guitar.
