  1. We had a M20d and a L3T on loan for eval this past summer. I TOTALLY know about lifting that pig (technical term) up and on to the speaker stand. Initially we were considering going the L2T route but the differential in cost to get up to the L3T's was very small so we said ^%$# it let's go with the larger speakers for the tri-amp and power advantage. I don't regret doing this but my back will. I think (as you mentioned) that the bags will help a lot with the wheels getting from vehicle in and out of the venue. I, like you, do most of the transporting myself but when at the gig the band is really good about helping out. Another lesson I learned is that a Van is waaaaay better than a pickup truck for transporting. MUCH EASIER to load stuff in/out of a Van. I am also very interested in trying my PODHD into the L3t's with the Line 6 Link. I use a DT25 and I really like it but just for fun I'll play around with the FRFR deal (especially in stereo) at the rehearsal house.
  2. That's unfortunate but at least you have some good comments here to help you make an informed decision when you're ready.
  3. Pulled the trigger on two Line 6 Lt3 bags today .... thanks for everyone's comments.
  4. Thanks folks so far for the comments. I ordered the LT3's today and was waiting for some comments before ordering the bags. What I meant by "are they worth it" is basically if the construction was tough enough, padding adequate, and most of all if the wheels were solid not flimsy plastic things that would likely break easily etc. I have a feeling that these points are true? I guess my biggest concern is the wheels as the L3T's are heavy buggers and SiWatts69 makes a good point about not taking corners too sharply. I am pretty sure I will be ordering the bags.
  5. Wondering if anybody here has purchased the Line 6 Lt3 bags (they say heavy duty and wheels). Wondering of they are worth it? I know many users don't bother with any kind of covers but I do. These bags area bit expensive but with the wheels it would certainly make moving these behemoths a lot easier for our (non roadie) group. Thanks in advance ....
  6. I am too old to be power lifting 79, 67 or even 50 lbs up on the tailgate and into my truck ..... THAT's one of the main reasons I like the head/cab split. I also prefer the sound of a closed back cab over the open back combo. In fact I have two cabs and the 3 layer stack looks impressive to the babes who gather round at the gigs to check it out .... I just wish it was me they were checking out ... bummer. I really like this technology of the digital modelling & efx in the POD then digitally linked to a multi configurable power amp. I think the Colonel summed it up perfectly by saying "there are ZERO other options which can do what the DT series of amps can do when you connect an HD500 to the amp using Line6Link"
  7. Seasonsofman, I echo what Gazza said. I have a DT25 head & 2 - DT112 Cabs plus an HD500. VERY versatile combination. I prefer the DT25 for the reason that you can push it for the tube crunch without being insanely loud. I would seriously give it some consideration. I also prefer the head/cab over the combo ... but, as an earlier thread confirms, there are many who like the combo. As Zap mentioned, there is a learning curve primarily due to the many audio options available, especially with an HD500. I also like the digital integration between POD and DT ... a nice design feature. To my way of thinking the HD500 "completes" the DT amp. Good luck with your journey and let us know what you end up doing and how you make out with it.
  8. Thanks ...... I'll also sweep a tone oscillator through them ..... that will usually zero in on it ?? If it happens I'll post the results. Encouraging to hear yours works.
  9. I am considering pulling the trigger on a pair of L2T's. They have to be ordered in from my local dealer who doesn't stock them. Before I bring them home, I want to test them in the store for the notorious rattles that have been discussed in this thread, and if they are there, I don't want to take them (I'll ask for immediate replacements but then that's another wait and another test). The store manager/staff will be there to witness the problem if it exists. This will be helpful. So then .... what would those of you who have experienced these issues do as a test on new speakers ??? The store has lots of guitars & basses. Anything specific that anyone might suggest would be greatly appreciated. To Note: Up front we will not be able to afford the M20d so will be using an analog mixer. Not ideal but better than nothing. We did have a M20d and an L3t for a month to test and were quite happy with it. Didn't notice a rattle from the L3t but were't looking for it either. Thanks in advance for any and all "specific rattle test suggestions" ....
  10. Is the master volume on the HD500 saved with the preset ?? ... or is it the same as the master volume on the DT25 where it is "outside" of the preset ?
  11. I have the DT25 head / cab .... reasons are ..... 1) I like splitting the weight up 2) I much prefer the sound of a closed back cab to the open back combo (although I do use beam blockers). Tighter, thicker, more punch (all "technical terms") 3) I also have a second D112. The stacked trio is awesome. plus if I ever want to go true stereo I just need to buy a second head. 4) I prefer the controls on the front rather than on the top. Of course these are just my personal preferences.
  12. I had a hum issue in my DT25 in Class A "Triode" Mode. To make a long story short, replacing the tubes and re-biasing reduced the problem by about 80% which was more than tolerable for me. The new tubes were also matched closer than the originals so that might also have had something to do with it?
  13. I have the same rig except the POD is the older HD500. After a couple years I still really like it. I much prefer the head/cab over a combo for weight split and the sound of the closed back cab. One thing I did find however, is that the cab speaker has the laser needle forward if you like the mid range tones so I ended up installing a "beam blocker" which really worked nicely to diffuse those frequencies FYI. Enjoy the rig.
  14. This is a good discovery/tip indeed .... who would have thought? I haven't been to the store yet but a micro it isn't.
  15. Eklynx Good tip thanks. I'll check out that SanDisk at Costco next time I'm in there. The M20d would't see my Mac formatted external but as soon as I reformatted it to FAT32 it showed up. That's how I figured it out. Then I went through the manual (quickly I'll admit) and couldn't find anywhere that defined the format requirement which I found odd.
  16. SiWatts69, My logic says to just use SD cards for capture. Easy Peezy and it seems to be the way they intended it (by design) to happen? External anything adds complication which is always risky. I am going to pick up a 32GB SDHC Class 10. Problem solved. Thanks.
  17. The more I am using (and understanding) this unit, the more I like it. As with all things digital, one has to wrap one's head around new concepts. Much of what I am discovering has been well thought out once the concepts are understood. The various tutorial videos done by Sean Halley are very good. Is there a collection of all of them all be found in one place? I am surprised that there was no ethernet port provided on the unit instead of making the user buy an adapter (and a very specific one at that)? This seems odd to me? So if you are capturing to a hard drive from the Type A socket you obviously can't be using the WiFi option to a router? Am I correct in this? Can you capture from the Type B socket and run Wifi at the same time through the Type A socket? Capturing from the Type B socket to an external hard drive would then require some adapter voodoo? I don't think I've ever run across an external hard drive with a Type A socket (which would then require a standard printer USB cable Type A to Type B )? So how do you run Wifi and capture to an external HD (not a DAW) at the same time? Seems to me like the SD card is the easiest way to capture by far? Also, so far, I haven't found anywhere in the manual that tells you to format your external hard drive to FAT32 if you want to capture that way? It doesn't recognize a Mac formatted external HD when I tried it? Thank you both for your comments.
  18. Update. Gig tonight went perfect. Everything worked as expected. No Wifi drop outs. Used third party WiFi router not Apple Express. So far so good.
  19. Ok, so a bit of an update for those who might be interested? First of all thanks SiWatts69 for the information about the Apple Adaptor. I also apologize for a) not reading the FAQ and b ) the other related threads first. So ... a friend of mine happened to have the Apple USB/Ethernet adapter and brought it over. I plugged it in and tried things out. Immediately it started to "search for a network" which it didn't before with the non Apple adapter. Good start, however it didn't want to connect to the AE. I tried a bunch of things but won't bore you with the long winded details unless someone asks for them. FINALLY, I remembered you stating in a previous thread "...any Wifi router should work". So I unplugged it from the AE and into my phone Wifi router and in about 20 secs it connected. I then connected back to that Router with the iPad and voila the StageScape app connected and it all worked ..... BONUS. So two things learned (ok three things but I've already mentioned the first one) ... wrong adapter and .... there is something weird (technical term) trying to connect to this first gen AE. A1084. Don't know what, and I am old enough not to waste my time trying to figure it out when I have another WiFi Router that seems to work perfectly and is a much newer device. So I have a gig tomorrow night to mix sound for some friends and we'll see how it all pans (no pun intended) out. I am hoping to be the mysterious man in the audience with an iPad mixing live sound. Thanks again for your help. Will likely update on my experience after tomorrow for those interested. Time for an ale.
  20. SiWatts69 ..... you mentioned is it "chip specific" .... so would the 1st generation Apple Airport Express A1084 work, or would it have to be a newer model??
  21. Thanks SiWatts69 .... that pretty much says it all .... can you be more specific about the word ONLY .... lol Ordering the Apple one now.
  22. Trying to get my iPad connected to M20d via Airport Express ... unsuccessfully so far. Downloaded the Stagescape App. Hit "Connect" nothing happens. This is an older 1st generation AE A1084 single Ethernet port. I have it configured with a AE network that I created. My MacPro and my iPad can both see and connect to the AE network by wifi. However, when I plug the ethernet cable from the AE to the M20d via 3rd party USB/Ethernet adaptor the M20d says No Remotes Present "no network adaptor present". I am wondering if I have an incompatible adaptor and that is what is causing this problem? As I mentioned, it is NOT an Apple adaptor but it says it is Mac Compatible. Any ideas out there? I have reset the AE several times and reconfigured the network. I don't think the problem is there? I do know from the Connection Tutorial on the Stagescape App that the M20d is NOT behaving as the Tutorial shows which makes me suspect this %$#@ adaptor. PS: the Ethernet cable does work as it provides a connection from the internet modem/router to the AE. I have also tried two different E cables that I know work but to no avail. There is a blue light that comes on when the adaptor is plugged in which I assume indicates that it is receiving some sport of USB power or signal. This happens when I plug it into either the M20d or the computer. So I am scratching my head on this one. I am using V1.20 Firmware on M20d
  23. Thanks Arne ... understand now ... problem resolved ...
  24. Sorry guys, just got the unit and have rehearsal tonight. Scrambling. For some reason when I hit "mute Mics" all but one mute. Happens to be Input 2? Can't seem to figure out why. Is there a "mute safe" somewhere that I might have activated? Yes I am "RTFM' ing" but just not much time at the moment to sus this out.
