  1. Black one is newer, less data stream glitches. Pat# 59-00-0159, Full Compass might have them, Line 6 web store might have some.
  2. Yes. D'Addario XL-110's 10-46 are the factory set.
  3. Doing an 8-string in Workbench HD is like sending a MIDI pitch-bend command to a synth with no pitch-bend capability,... it won't work. Creating an 8-string patch for a 6-string guitar,... just won't work. Interesting idea though.
  4. What silverhead said in the other post. He's a L6 authorized tech. Yes, only Line 6 authorized service centers can get those.
  5. What silverhead said. He's a L6 authorized tech. Yes, only Line 6 authorized service centers can get those.
  6. Firehawk FX is an HD level product. Last I remember that was tried, it didn't work. HD level products are not compatible as an interface for older Variaxes. Best use the interface device, it's designed for that.
  7. There are multiple reasons for that. -Supply regulation failure would be fatal failure of the amp. -Digital clock failure,... in the digital world, nothing happens without a clock. Maybe,... maybe repairable. -Processor failure, fatal failure of the amp. -Some internal loose contact. Maybe,... maybe repairable. Would need to be taken to a Line 6 authorized service center for evaluation and troubleshooting.
  8. "Can somebody please help me understand what is special about the Electro Harmonix version of the EL84? " --- Nothing special, it's what Rheinhold Bogner specified for the tube design. Don't use different flavors. Stick to the Electro-Harmonix Mediums version. Rheinhold designed the tube amp section, Line 6 has it's digital processor board in it. The characteristic curves of the tubes have to be spot on, because the analog side and the digital side have to talk nice to one another, or bad things happen. EH and Sovtek are owned by the same entity, the EH version is a premium version that goes through extra scrutiny, and so the characteristics curves are consistent. Variations between manufacturers or versions within same manufacturer can create inconsistencies. There is the soft, medium and hard aspect to also consider,... ratio of gas-to-vacuum in the tube also plays a role in this, and the characteristic curve (also know as transfer function) of the tube. As a result of the analog side and the digital side have to talk nice to one another, these amps are not forgiving of modifications, even tube swaps. These are not analog tube amps, so they cannot be treated the same way as all analog tube amps of 1960's and 70's. MIL SPEC tubes are nice tubes,... just, not in these amps.
  9. Gold finish came out later for the Korean 69S models, 2012 or 2013 'ish. This one is an early US from 2010. Very good. Any idea who you got it from?
  10. It's legit. Very good. :) I know the guy that makes the US ones. He does good work.
  11. Serial number won't show up in Monkey for a JTV.
  12. Longer version of the JTV-69 saddle screw,... no. There isn't one. If it needs a longer screw, then there may be a problem with the set-up. It should never need to be that extreme as to use the entire length of the screw. Something is not right then.
  13. It's why I asked about the battery and the TRS. As usual, cruisinon2 is on the ball. Very good. Once I get an answer about the TRS and the knobs, then I will know what's next, could be a small problem with the 1/4" section of the jack plate.
  14. - Check the battery when using the 1/4". - Make certain you are using a TRS 1/4" plug cable. - Paper wad won't last, don't bother with that. - Are the volume and/or tone control knobs loose? If so, then carefully pull up the knobs, make certain the model knob doesn't hang up and tighten down the retainer nuts underneath. Try not to scratch the pick guard when pulling up the knobs. Good even pull, be careful NOT to pull the pot shaft out of the pot,... it can happen.
  15. The bridge is a second gen bridge. That S# came wit a first gen bridge originally. Nice. Secondary vibrations can come from worn string nut slots. Use Black TUSQ, bone nuts tend to overly resonate in these guitars. Never cared for bone, except in classical guitars.
  16. Red or Sunburst 69 SSH with a few mods,... I think I eval'd that one some time back. Doc H, I sort of remember. Been a while.
  17. If it was point-to-point wiring, you could get a CRL switch from Stew-Mac and do that. Haven't done one of those since a mod I did back in the late 1970's when I crewed for the band Iron Butterfly. You're taken back to a flash-back. That mod configuration was sort of popular then.
  18. No, it's not designed to accommodate that. If it hardwired point-to-point and no fixed circuit board, then that would be different, but not here. All signals route thru the Main PCBA, so it can switch from Modeling to magnetics properly.
  19. "It has been to several Master Builder Luthiers here in Atlanta and none could get this instrument to play properly. At this point it's become a Challenge." ---- Then maybe it should come to my bench for evaluations. Log a support ticket, see what your options are. It's an oldie serial number, servicing is probably long overdue.
