Any 3rd party active circuitry in the guitar?

How do other guitars sound going through the amp? Did it do that before you changed the pick-up?

Be very careful loosening the nut under it. It holds in a bracket underneath. If it gets too loose, it can fall inside. Also, if it gets too loose and you tighten the nut again, it can leave the Model knob off center and can hang-up when you go to engage the Models. So be very careful and aware. -

Pair of spoons or flat-head drivers,... very carefully. Why do you need to pull off the knob? -
JTV89F selection switch
psarkissian replied to malriley's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
https://line6.com/find/service_center/ Go to the pull-down heading for guitar servicing locations. Sounds like it needs to be checked out by the Line 6 authorized service center in your area. There are about four different things that can do that, so it needs to be check by a service center that knows the product. -
Full Compass doesn't ship out of the USA. Check with the service center list for your area, see if they can special order it for you. https://line6.com/find/service_center/ Or our service partners in the Euro at Yamamha in Germany, through the Support Ticket system through your account.

Too much proprietary stuff inside. Too much high voltage hazard. Too many out there who get in too deep, mess up, then it ends up on my repair bench or my lab mates. Trying to prevent that. If a fuse blows on one of these, the reason is serious, and a new fuse won't solve it (and maybe even make it worse). No custom kits or corner electronic store mods with these. If it does need servicing at some point, there's always E&M Electronics in Milton Keynes or my mate, former L6 Rugby tech Mark Wright Music in Northampton. I know, I'm a tech tweaker myself, Mark can confirm that. :) Cheers. Rock-n-roll!!!

I know. The days of bulbs are gone. Not like the tube amps of the 1960's and 70's anymore. I'm used to it.

Surface mount LED's on a board. Don't mess with them.

No. Sorry.
-
No. Just cavities for the electronics.

Jtv-59 Selector Switch Not Working
psarkissian replied to ltmsc's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
" And, who are you? " --- I'm a repair tech at Line 6 in Calabasas, who services JTV, Standard, Shuriken and some other Line 6 guitars. There's a glitch in the switch. Can't get into circuit level stuff, NDA and all. Yes, dealt with plenty of guitars over my 14 years here. -
Jtv-59 Selector Switch Not Working
psarkissian replied to ltmsc's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Not software issue. 1- Return it to Sweetwater for a replacement,... they'll send it to me to deal with. 2- Take it to a Line 6 authorized service center in your area, should be under warranty. 3- Log a Support Ticket in you account, they may have you send it me here at Line 6 to deal with. -
"Anyway, is there any way I could learn? " --- about valves in general, yes. These amps in particular, no. Too much proprietary stuff, so I can't get into that. Best bet is E&M Electronics in Milton Keynes near Oxfordshire as they are Line 6 authorized service in the area. There is Mark Wright Music in Northampton, he was my opposite number Across The Pond back when Line 6 had a location in Rugby. Good tech, knows his stuff.

Not like changing strings. These are not all analog valve amps from the 1960's and 70's. There's a whole post valve change-out check list to do. Have it done by a Line 6 authorized service in your area. They will use the specified valves.

"I will cut the Variax wires so as to hook up the DiMarzios " --- don't go cutting wires unless you know exactly what you are cutting. Check DiMarzio's wiring diagrams for their pick-ups for the different pick-up configurations (3 pick-up for this one). https://www.dimarzio.com/support/wiring-diagrams

musbug,... when you use the 5-way toggle switch in Model mode,... what happens? If it's coming up as a 59, then there's a program issue, and not something that is user serviceable. 1) Return it to Sweetwater for an exchange. 2) Have a Line 6 authorized service center swap out the board and do the usual checks on it. 3) Get a return authorization to send it to me at Line 6, so I can reprogram it and check things out.
