using the power stage of Spider 150to build up FRFR
psarkissian replied to Intifelipe's topic in AX2 / AxSys
Speaker output needs to have a dummy load on it, if you are just using the legacy amp for an effects loop. Never turn on an amp with a load on the speaker outs (speakers of the correct Ohms) or dummy load. -
1) "Could there be something wrong with knob? "--- Possible. There is a knob fix. If it's loose underneath, it will have to come to me for servicing, log a support ticket for that. 2) Slinky tension has never really made for good contact tension on the piezos, and go out of tune too easily. 3) 11-46 (or 48) is okay, 50 is about the limit, I would wave you off of 52's on Variax in General. Always have the set-up checked and adjusted a couple days after a string gauge change, as the tension will change and alter the set-up. Set-ups on a Variax has to be spot-on to avoid frequency artifacts.

700 works with original Workbench only, and is incompatible with HD series of products. Playing thru it is one thing, using Monkey and Workbench is something else. JTV prior to Flash 2.00 and early version Variax won't update thru the 500X, and only Workbench HD works with the 500X. Best to use the interface device kit and go direct for connect a 700 to a computer directly, you decide to get an HD500X.

If you're hearing the string and the amplified signal together, that is known as "dual tone effect". Usually people turn up the amp, stand closer to the amp, or use headphones.

variax saddle issue
psarkissian replied to whitetime's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Cotton swab, drip 70% isopropyl into the piezo/saddle assembly, then blow at it with canned air. If that doesn't fix it, then it should be looked at by a Line 6 authorized service center in your area that services Line 6 guitars. https://line6.com/find/service_center/ -

Shuriken Variax Volume Knob Needs Replacement
psarkissian replied to WhiteCraneFist's topic in Shuriken
Alpha has standard series, and series special made to companies with certain needs. Don't know off-hand if that number is a general standard for the general tech public. Looks more like a batch number, I forget what the suffix code is. Our guy from Support has been in touch with me about this, as I'm the guy at Line 6 that services JTV, Standard and Shuriken. He should be getting with you soon with my response to him. -
Greenback in spider iv 30. Comments please
psarkissian replied to bcinbergen's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
-- Hope it isn't new, you just voided the warranty by not using a speaker of the same impedance. -- What fflbrgst said. Impedance matching,... the output load must be matched with the output impedance. Never use anything other the speaker with the same Ohms impedance, as it is matched up for that. -- Greenbacks are shielded. Greenbacks are used where multiple speakers are used in one cabinet, and so are shielded to prevent mutual inductance with non-shielded speakers in the same cabinet. -- Using Greenbacks just because they're cool speakers is a waste of money, unless you have something next to the cabinet that is sensitive to magnetic fields. -- Be careful with the pre-input boost, don't want you crash the input circuit.- 7 replies

Shuriken Variax Volume Knob Needs Replacement

It's rare that the shaft would do that. Get with Full Compass and see if it can be special ordered. Also, log a Support Ticket. -

Spider Valve MkII HD100 tube issues - questions.
psarkissian replied to Faerwald's topic in Spider Valve
"Besides the cup, is there any tonal difference in the Sovtek 5881WXT vs Sovtek 5881WGC?"---- No, purely structural. Early spring retainer pressure had a tendency to crack the tubes, bear trap retainers scratched and weakened the glass. The base cup solved both problems. Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH are low microphonic and stable, as are LPS, and the China-B is good. I'm an EH fan myself. "... after about 20 minutes of playing the sound becomes less edgy with a loss of volume. I can adjust the knob and the volume returns, but the original clarity and bite are no longer present. Could this be a tube issue?"--- If the tubes have not been changed in two of years,... yes. Tone,... the digital section and the analog tube section talk to each other and balance each other out. And being that it's after 20-minutes,... it take about 20-30 minutes for a tube amp to fully warm up and level out. One of the reason we turn on the sound set-up an hour before a concert and did sound checks a 15 to 30 minutes before the concert (back in the mid 1970's when I crewed for Iron Butterfly). Nature of the tube beast. Presence is a useful setting for the crispiness. -

Then the shaft is broken internally. Getting that as a single spare part is difficult as it's part of an assembly of breakaway boards. -

Shuriken Variax Volume Knob Needs Replacement
psarkissian replied to WhiteCraneFist's topic in Shuriken
Cotton swab or toothbrush, 70% isopropyl, and clean any flux residue off the board. Sometimes conductive debris can be suspended in the flux and cause "partial" shorts. If the shaft is NOT rotating 360-degrees, then that's a good thing. Sorry for the slow Support response. Everyone is working remotely and IT has been doing some tweaks to accommodate the extra traffic. -
Recommendtions?

Own (3) 59's and (3) 69's, and never had a problem. -
Sorry about that. Shipping issues, new RoHS-3 standards implementation, tariff tiffs, and now CoVid-19 lock-down. Being that we're not considered essential infrastructure, we're doing what we can virtually. Doing what I can for you all by grabbing WiFi in the parking lot of a coffee shop 'round the corner. Hoping to be back in the building, working as soon as it is safe.

Batteries for JTV
psarkissian replied to fairleas's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
ONLY USE Line 6 batteries in these guitars. Li-Ion is not something to mess with. Part# 98-034-0009,... use Only these batteries, it's a known quality and quantity. Anything else is nothing but problems and failure hazards. When transporting or shipping these guitars, REMOVE the battery from the guitar and send it along in a side pouch or something in the shipping box. -
Don't use beeswax on the piezo elements, it will mess with the mechanics of the vibrations on the piezo, and the mechanical-to-electrical transfer of the vibrations. Need good contact and string tension on the piezo for good signal vibration transfer through the piezo. Not something I do, but some people use beeswax on frets or nut slots.

Action is done at the bridge by individually adjusting the piezo height.

Shuriken Variax Volume Knob Needs Replacement
psarkissian replied to WhiteCraneFist's topic in Shuriken
Is it the knob, or the pot shaft itself going past the limits? Had a couple Variaxes over the years come in, and it ends up being the inner knob slipping against the outer knob. Want to make sure before you go order a whole pot assembly. That one connector has a number of pins, a lot can go wrong. If it still functions, then chances are it's the knob and not the pot. -
Variax Guitars are no longer available in Germany
psarkissian replied to JochenKopp's topic in Shuriken
This whole CoVid-19 lock-down thing has really thrown a wrench into the logistic works. Since Line 6 is not considered essential infrastructure, we are physically shut down, including the distribution hub. Some virtual work is going on, but that's it. I'm not messaging here from Line 6, but doing so remotely. Whatever we can do remotely is being done. Shipping product right now from main distribution?,... don't know. Check with customer support regarding our physical return to Line 6.
