  1. Sounds like Line 6 might be having some server problems, or somewhere along the way from them to you. Might work tomorrow or the next day... Nice avatar there hurghanico.
  2. Exactly the same here. Every time I attempt to use my fingers, it always ends in quite the disaster. Plus a pick presents the opportunity for more types of attack, or even a combo using pick and finger with two strings.
  3. Cheater! lol. Just kidding. Whatever tool works.
  4. Thanks! Could be due to the pick, a nice heavy 1.4mm Dunlop Ultex Sharp. That in combination with the strings, which are Dean Markley Helix stainless steel. I don't know how bass players can use their fingers, it always boggles me when I see that.
  5. Yep. Ultimately, it's up to you about how you feel comfortable with the process. And even when you discover what works best for you, there can be variations on that depending on the song. From my perspective, sometimes it might be finding a guitar tone first, using that as a seed, and sprouting the rest, bass, drums, clean back, etc., from there. Another time the bass might be the seed, or a heavily distorted backing track. Use your intuition, occasionally to the point of letting the song tell you how to proceed, instead of you forcing a way forward. Really no right or wrong way here, only discovery.
  6. I'm not fond of a distorted bass, so I've found that keeping the gain at 30 or below (on the SVT bright), with the master dep around 50, or even slightly above, produces a nice clean tone, just at the edge of breaking up. Haven't tried, but now that you mention it, a nice clean tone mixed with a distortion effect via dual paths would go well together...
  7. I'm with everyone else on this. It's better to get things right at the source, rather than try and fix a mistake later on, which then complicates things even more. Don't worry about messing with the DEP controls. I look at them as just more controls, some for fine-tuning, like the amp DEPs, and some for more drastic changes, like the cab DEPs. The master amp DEP could be useful in adding some power amp breakup on top of the existing distortion, and adds a little more balls to the tone. If you increase this, you'll have to decrease the channel volume some. The resonance cab DEP is a powerful and interesting control. If you increase this, you'll have to decrease the channel volume. It also works in conjunction with the thump and decay controls. In some cases, these controls could replace adding an EQ somewhere, freeing up some DSP. One thing you could try is backing off the drive on the Line 6 Drive, maybe around 10-20, or even lower, and upping the output instead. To compensate some for the lower distortion, raise the drive slightly on the amp. But remember that, generally, too much distortion is going to muddy things up. What I like to do is once I have what I think is a good distortion amount, I'll back off just a little. I'll also do that with reverb.
  8. Haven't noticed this on mine (500X). Did you do the global reset when you did the update?
  9. I would say the base tone you're after sounds pretty good. It's midsy and woodsy. The high end does sound a little raunchy, approaching a digital-like clipping quality, especially noticeable in the guitar only track. Could be due to the volume difference between the two tracks and me listening with headphones. The track with the drums is more pleasing for the guitar. Much of the rauchyness is tamed, or not heard because of lower volume. I can hear a lot compression artifacts on the drums though, and I can also hear some phasing going on with the drums. Once you get other tracks behind the guitar, particularly bass, a lot of stuff will change and you'll probably find yourself re-tweaking the guitar.
  10. Kind of a broad question, since one patch may benefit from using only one input, but others maybe to their detriment. Cleans may be better with only one input. Higher or ludicrous gains could certainly benefit from a boosted signal going into the amp. So it's probably not as simple as making the change for all of your patches. You'd have to test each one to see what you think. And then if you do change the setting, you would likely have to tweak further it further. Experimentation. I can't say I've come across any info about phasing issues using both inputs set the same. But there are, and you probably already know, about some potential phasing issues with a dual amp/cab setup, but they're minor and can become lost against a background.
  11. Look forward to hear your experience with the axe, especially since you're also familiar with the pods.
  12. Haven't heard much talk about the new bass amps and cabs, for the purposes of bass. After playing around with them for a few days, I gotta say they really are awesome. I especially like the 410 Rhino cab. The 810 Beast is nice, and better than what was already there, but not as good as the 410 Rhino. The amps are both very nice and equally easy to work with. Both are about the same in terms of sonic quality, and are much better than the Flip-Top. One of them even has its own amp DEPs, the G Cougar 800, with boost and contour. Although the contour control confuses me a little. The actual amp has three settings for this, called voicing filters: lo cut, mid, and hi boost. Not sure if each of these can be activated independent of the others, or only one at a time on the actual amp, but the model seems to have only two settings, up to 50%, and above 50%. My guess is they are the mid contour and hi boost. The low cut can be taken care of by the lo-cut cab dep I guess. Previously, I've used pretty much one patch, with minor tweaks depending on the song, for all my bass needs. It used 3 EQs, 2 tube comps, two amps, and reverb. That uses up effectively all of the DSP on a 500X. With the new stuff, I was able to construct a patch that is very similar sounding, but also clearer, more defined, and with more body and definition. I did this using only one tube comp, one amp, and one reverb. Very impressed. Good work Line 6.
  13. To inject a little humor maybe... For anyone who has seen Wargames, this thread keeps reminding of the scene: "Remember when you told me to tell you when you're acting rudely and insensitively? You're doing it now." :) Note that that scene can be applied either way in the context of this thread.
  14. Good luck in your endeavors. Hope you find what you're looking for. If I could afford an Axe, it would be without hesitation.
  15. Yea. It would even be better for them to use a completely new forum framework. This forum isn't the worst I've seen, but it is bad. At least it's not red text on a black background.
  16. Solid advice. Your ears/brain, moderately refined, are capable of inherently reproducing the frequency guidelines posted above. One thing to keep in mind, always, if you rely on your ears more than numbers, is ear fatigue.
  17. You could fix that by bookmarking each sub-forum you normally view and bypass the first page altogether.
  18. Here's a little more info on this: http://line6.com/support/topic/12828-amp-volume-control-problem/
  19. If you do a search on tgp forums, I remember reading a post where Cliff said he doesn't engage in this sort of activity. Whether you believe that or not is another matter.
  20. Internet Explorer 11 on windows 7 64-bit seems to be a problem. Quoting also doesn't work on this browser. The forum looks okay with firefox and chrome.
  21. A single misplaced or missing semicolon can really mess things up. Fixed here too.
  22. My guitar has the top four frets scalloped. I've really grown to not like them very much. While they might produce an arguably longer sustain in practice, there is also more space under the string for it to dig into your fingertip, which is what I don't like.
  23. I've been noticing this also lately, specifically on cab decay. But previous versions, prior to at least 2.26, seemed fine.
  24. As Giorgos said, can't see the values. The reason for the steps I've outlined for dual amps is if you adjust for one amp and then go to adjust for the other amp, you can't see the values, even on the unit itself, without first adjusting one of the cab DEPs on the amp for which you want to adjust an amp DEP..
  25. Now i'm wishing I had the rack model, not floor.
