  1. It means the system will lock up. The only way to fix it is the reset or power button. I remember two, maybe three years ago, it caused a blue screen. But newer versions of Reaper, different computer hardware, and seemingly endless windows updates, now causes a hard lock. It could also be that it's something unique to reaper, I don't know. Might not happen with other DAWs.
  2. As far as audio quality, I would say, generally, no, no difference. But the more points of connection between the pod and computer might mean more conversions (depending on the type of connections used), which might affect audio quality; whether or not that's perceivable... I've used the pod as the interface, via usb, to record into Reaper, and it works just fine and provides the best possible quality. Just don't turn the pod off with the DAW still open or it might cause a hard lock or your system, if you use Windows. My favorite way is to use, not an external interface like your suggesting, but an internal add in soundcard with ASIO and a digital input. Then I take the digital out from the pod to the soundcard. No conversions in between. This also lifts the reliance on the pod for system audio, if you happen to use your computer for other things besides studio work. And you can now turn the pod off without worrying about a system lock.
  3. Try eliminating the L6 Link connection and see if it still does it. Does it only do this originating from a specific patch, or any patch? If you have access to another power supply source, try that. To truly do a factory reset, you'll have to reflash the firmware, but since it's exhibiting strange behavior, I'd hold off on that. At most, you could try a global reset.
  4. Lol. Use the words, listen to your kid. It sounds like he/she knows about this stuff. Non-sensical they may seem, but they also invoke a sense of curiosity. It's different from normal expectations.
  5. While it is flattering that one may think of me as an omniscient being for knowing minute details about a song I have nothing to do with, I am not. Though I admit such a thing would be a rather nice ability. I believe the post you're responding to is this one:
  6. A couple of other options besides Microsoft Office would be a portable version of Libre Office or Open Office to view the spreadsheet file.
  7. Nice pleasing tone. The writing sounds very AC/DCish.
  8. Thanks for the heads up on this. Looks interesting. Although reading some of the negative reviews does reveal some concern about the actual content. For big concept scientific stuff wrapped in a story, it's hard to resist anything from Greg Egan, Stephen Baxter, Alastair Reynolds, or Gregory Benford. All authors with actual scientific backgrounds.
  9. That's an ingenious use of what's available on the pod. From what I see, it makes use of the dual parallel paths and effectively serializes them, made possible by the pod having multiple inputs. Good way of showing just how flexible the pod really is.
  10. Unless I'm not seeing something, I don't think option 3 is possible. There is only one physical fx loop and once one of the fx blocks is assigned to the fx loop, that's it, it can only be done once.
  11. Never read any Sherlock Holmes, but since you have, you might be interested in The Fifth Heart, by Dan Simmons. Sherlock Holmes, who questions whether or not he is real, teams up with Henry James in Europe and they proceed to travel to the United States to get to the bottom of a global conspiracy. Takes place in the late 1800s. I made it to around page 300, but had to set it aside. It's a very well researched book (Dan Simmons is known for this), but it felt like in all his research, he couldn't leave out any, and I mean any, detail. It became too much.
  12. Sounds like your best bet would be starting with the Octo reverb, with a lowish tone setting. Perhaps put some other reverb in there as well, possibly cave. Effects like these are really hard to duplicate exactly. You just have to experiment with the settings to get close.
  13. You'll want to select the Line 6 ASIO driver instead of MME/DirectX. And have a look at the Line 6 Audio-MIDI devices control panel for some options about hardware monitoring level, if needed.
  14. Well, after temporarily ruining my left index finger working on a small part of a song, I have a little extra time to read. Currently reading Bête, by Adam Roberts. Here's the first few sentences: As I raised the bolt-gun to its head the cow said: ‘Won’t you at least Turing-test me, Graham?’ ‘Don’t call me Graham,’ I told it. ‘My wife calls me Graham. My mum calls me Graham. Nobody else.’ ‘Oh, Mister Penhaligon,’ the cow said, sarcastically. We’ll have to assume, for the moment, that cows are capable of sarcasm. ‘It won’t much delay you. And if I fail, then surely, surely, go ahead: bye-bye-bos-taurus.But!’ ‘You’re not helping your case,’ I said, ‘by enunciating so clearly. You don’t sound like a cow.’ ‘Moo,’ said the cow, arching one hairless eyebrow. This may seem humorous, funny, or even stupid for a novel's premise. But going by any of Adam Roberts' past novels, I fully expect an in depth philosophical look at sentience, consciousness, and it's various impacts on a society when humans find a way to technologically create a new form of it. And told in a way that only Adam Roberts can.
  15. Cool! Can definitely hear the Black Sabbath influence in both tone and writing. And the tone is quite good. I'd imagine there's vocals throughout?
  16. I've found, here, the exact opposite of this when using the new 5150, blackback, 57 on axis, and 87 cond. So while the above statement might be true some combinations, you can exclude the one I've tried.
  17. Heh. Don't forget to factor in ear fatigue (I guess 1 a day accounts for this), and the fact that in that amount of time, one's hearing is bound to degrade slightly, so you'll have to start all over again, because things sound different now!
  18. Here it is (hd500x): Variax.zip
  19. I find on my hd500x, when I recalibrate the pedal, it sometimes takes multiple tries, usually with results of 30 or slightly more for a minimum, but eventually it succeeds. Try very slightly tightening the allen bolt so the pedal won't flop down somewhat by its own weight. For the diagnostic mode, use the up/down arrow to select what you want to test, then hit the view button. FLASH and SDRAM are the only two that don't require any other further action after pressing the view button. It will go back to the diagnostic listing screen, with a P after the thing you just tested. Buttons, pots, and encoders allow you to make sure all the buttons, pots, and encoders are functioning. Have you tried wiggling the cable attached to the guitar input? Possible intermittent connection?
  20. I can't recall there ever being a message on the unit itself saying it was successful either. Have you tried any of the other inputs, like the mic or aux? These inputs don't work with the tuner, and if you try them, make sure you change the global input setting to whatever it is you're using. The right + power up is a diagnostic mode. It allows pedal calibration, plus it allows you to check various other hardware on the device.
  21. Have you tried flashing back to a previous version? Preferably prior to version 2.60. Since you've updated the usb firmware, there is no current way to downgrade that on an hd500. Other than trying that, you've been thorough. When you did a right + power on, what do you mean you can't change the parameters?
  22. Glad to share. I like the Djent stuff in very small doses. More than that and it quickly becomes monotonous. I do like Djent tones though. Used to perform live in a cover band when younger, but it was always a horrible disaster. No stage presence. So, no, that's studio work. No whammy pedal, but there's some mild use of the whammy bar in a couple of spots. One of my other songs, Prime Vinculum, uses a pitch glide, but I tied to mix to the exp pedal instead of the pitch, to give some note a sort of blooming type effect. This patch will only work on a hd500x or pro x. PrimeVinculum.zip
  23. Thanks! That's a big compliment calling it unique. Thanks. Never heard of King Crimson before, so I took a quick listen. Wasn't expecting something so old, but I found some of their melodies and composition very interesting.
  24. Ok. I'll bite. After all, this is what it's all about. That's a nice song you have there, the first link, called finish-2. Original? Here's a heavily processed clean tone that I find myself reusing in several of my songs, with minor tweaks each time. This one, Ekpyrosis, uses this tone the most prevalently, along with a bass and drum track. Very simple and short. The attached patch should work on other pods besides an hd500x. Ekpyrosis.zip

    cab settings

You're not one with an adverse tendency, possibly genetic, that your very presence causes technology to forget its function? Seriously, I hope it works for you. And keeps working.
