  1. In my screenshot below you can see that I have two of the same distortion model. Lets call the top one Low Gain and the bottom one High Gain. You can see that Low Gain is off, and High Gain is on. You can also see that under "Controllers", the model is assigned to FS1. Both the High and Low Gain models are assigned to FS1, which makes FS1 a "Multi" control. With one off and the other on, this will toggle between the two distortion pedals. When you do this, you'll also get more volume out of the High Gain pedal, so you might want to adjust that in the mixer. This is one method. ---------- Ive got another method I used over the weekend. I set the distortion drive level to be controlled by the expression pedal. This introduced the same problem of increasing the volume more than I wanted to. So in the first screenshot, you can see that the expression pedal (EXP-1) controls the Drive for the Screamer model. When the pedal is all the way back, the Screamer is set to 15%. When it's all the way up, it's pushing 85%. At 85% the volume is too loud. So what I wanted to do was reduce the volume at the same time that I increased the drive. In the screenshot, you can see that the amp's volume level is also being controlled by the expression pedal, EXP-1. The difference is that when the pedal is backed all the way off, the volume is higher, and when the pedal is all the way up the amp's volume is lowered. This method takes a bit more massaging, since you need to figure out what volume you want to hit at both the bottom and top, then dial it in just right. It works for me, though. While this doesn't produce a totally smooth transition between gain and volume, there's also no cutout as the pedal switches from one distortion model to the other (15ms?). Your mileage may vary.
  2. Are you saving the patches on the unit? If you make changes, then navigate away before saving, those changes will be lost.
  3. I've had no problems with Mavericks and my HD Edit, Monkey, or Workbench
  4. I've used my HD500 as a DI. Simple no-effects patch. That said, if you drop in a parametric EQ and a little plate reverb it can sound pretty nice.
  5. I see what you mean. The banjo's 5th string G is an octave higher than the guitar's A string G note (10th fret) Would the rest of the guitar be tunable to a 4 string banjo though? It seems that this would be possible (based on listening to an online banjo tuner)
  6. So you need to turn the 6 string guitar into a 5 string banjo tuned to g, correct? So fire up Workbench, turn down the volume on the low E all the way. You're now a 5 string guitar. Now you set your tunings for each string to match the banjo tunings. E = muted A = G = fret 22 (10 frets up) D = D = fret 12 (0 frets up) B = G = fret 20 (8 frets up) G = B = fret 16 ( 4 frets up) e = D = fret 15 (3 frets up) What am I missing? I'm not a banjo player, but this seems doable. None are over an octave higher
  7. Why not just virtual capo it to the correct tuning?
  8. I'm not very knowledgeable about L6, but my understanding is that it can send some level of control information to the StageSource and DT systems. Does it do anything on the M20D - like treat it as an input set for whatever the HD500 is sending out?
  9. I bought my 69 as a scratch n dent from Sweetwater. Can't find a single thing wrong with it. Still had the scratch-plastic on the pickguard and pickups. Not likely to be a return with that still on board. I'm guessing it's just a sales tactic.
  10. The only place it would be useful would be when downloading or writing all the patches from or to the device. There's just no need for it.
  11. BPM to MS calculator: http://www.thewhippinpost.co.uk/tools/delay-time-calculator.htm You could also make a little excel spreadsheet for your smartphone to punch in the math and keep it with you.
  12. I pull from the headphone jack on the HD500. Doesn't give me a mix, but it lets me hear the HD500
  13. Thanks Chas. The only other way to set that up would be to drop an attenuator on it, and frankly I don't want to deal with the hassle. I was listening to the 500 dry and the DT25 DI and could hear a difference, with the 500 being brighter and the DT25 sounding warmer. In the group I play with and in the circumstances that I play, the difference can be heard (there are a lot of times that I'm solo on stage doing padding). Guess I'll throw a little tube pre after the 500 and see if that warms it up enough. Not quite the same as a few EL25's
  14. I'm currently doing that with the HD500. The live tubes sound better. There are upper and lower natural harmonics that a tube generates which modelers can't quite hit yet. The HD500 sounds good, but it sounds better with the DT
  15. This is probably a stupid question that's been answered elsewhere, but I wasn't able to find it. I know that on a standard amplifier, not placing load on the output can kill the amp. With the DT25/DT50's direct out, is it possible to fire them up and use their voicings without an attached cabinet? I play on a fairly quiet stage so I can't use even a low-wattage amp & cabinet (normally a Blackheart Handsome Devil). I was thinking about picking up a DT25 to get the voicings and cab simulation along with my HD500 to get a better sound. Since I need to keep the stage quiet, I was thinking about just pushing it out the DI rather than micing a cabinet, but didnt want to kill it by not adding any load.
  16. The red braided cable appears to be unavailable. Discontinued?
  17. Like I said, I dont want to have to spend more if I'm able to use the resources I already have. What I love about the HD500 is that I can take my guitar and my HD500 from my car to my gig in one trip. Getting more gear means I need to make more trips to get my gear. I'm lazy.
  18. Hmm, I was really only considering my go-to patch which is a single amp chain. But I also use some effects heavy dual chains, so that wouldn't work. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Guess ill just use a wireless earpiece from an aux channel on the board. I can use my ipad to adjust the aux mix from the stage, so it'll be personalized. Was just hoping I could do it using the equipment I already have.
  19. so input 1 and input 2 can't be routed to a left or right channel independently...hmm
  20. I'm delving into some of the functions of my HD500 board and I got to wondering. Would I be able to take an aux channel from my live audio mixing board and bring it back to the stage, plug into my XLR input, and get that mix through the headphone out along with my HD500? Here's what I was thinking: Set my input 1 source to Guitar and my input 2 source to Mic. I plug my live mixer's aux channel into the HD500's mic input. Then in the HD500's mixer I pan path A full left and path B full right. I send my HD500 out using the left XLR channel. If I plug in my headphones will I get my guitar in my left ear and my aux channel mix in my right ear? Furthermore, will my aux mix only come through my headphones and not out to the live mixer? I didnt see anyplace to specifically send an input source to a particular path...am I on the right track?
