  1. Play barefoot....never know when you'll need an extra appendage. ;)
  2. All that work, and they made it a lefty?!?! That thing will sit on ebay forever...;)
  3. As useful as FX are, magical spells they ain't...;) A guitar synth is the only thing that's gonna do what your asking.
  4. There's a little clip release you have to push. Can't just yank it out like a 1/4" cable. If you're already doing that and it's still jammed in there, I'm out of ideas...
  5. I had a rhododendron that could play the spoons, once. Had to give it up...carpal root syndrome. Very sad...
  6. So this is what happens when you get lost in the woods for years, with a laptop. He needs a stage name, though. "iTarzan" would work nicely, I think. ;)
  7. OK, I'll bite...what on earth are you talking about?
  8. Can't say I agree...an instrument that looks, feels, and sound cheap, will look, feel, and sound cheap whether you're trying to play Megadeth or Pat Metheny. Yes, you can occasionally get lucky with a $50 pawn shop Squire. But for every one of those, there are a thousand awful press board-body "starter" instruments that come with the equally horrendous 1.6 watt practice amp that parents love to buy as a package at Xmas. I used to have students show up with these things all the time. Half of them couldn't be successfully intonated. No amount of set-up skills could redeem many of these disasters. Pump all the high gain you want through one of those things...makes no difference. Sh*tty is sh*tty.
  9. That's a good point...no matter what the instrument itself sounds like, we're taking the signal and smearing 1's and 0's all over it, and trying to make it sound like something it's not anyway.
  10. I've never been able to get anything decent with the other output modes. The high end was always way too harsh for me.
  11. Amen. I need new incredibly minor, borderline insignificant issues to b1tch about... Now if you'll excuse me, the glove compartment in my new Ferrari is too small...I'm writing a letter. ;)
  12. It's all personal preference, like everything else. Wood...entirely subjective. I'd argue that most players who think they know what a given wood sounds like, when blindfolded wouldn't be able to tell the difference between maple and one of those graphite (or whatever the hell it is) boards on a Parker Fly. But that's another discussion altogether. As far as I'm concerned, what a neck feels like it's what matters...high gloss finish, satin finish, oil finish...or no finish at all (roasted maple doesn't require one), you like what you like. Same with the fret size. Of course it doesn't hurt if it's pretty to look at too... The holes...if they're building it from scratch, may as well tell them not to drill it. But, Warmoth always had tons of stuff in stock, sometimes costing considerably less than a new build. Take a look at what they've got. Even if the holes are already drilled, at least 2 are gonna line up, possibly 3...don't remember anymore, as I chickened out and had I guy who's work I trust put it on for me. ;) This thread has some pics of one of my Warmoth necks...not on the JTV, but it's my favorite. Walnut with birdseye maple board, flamed maple skunk stripe down the back. Grabbed it as soon as I saw it... http://line6.com/support/topic/16538-project-guitar/?hl=project+guitar
  13. And if your "real" amp has an FX loop, someof your FX would/should be in there. And if you were recording in a studio, with a mic sitting in front of an amp and cab, all the FX get applied to an otherwise raw track. Unless you want to record FX that you're then stuck with...which is generally ill-advised. Wherever the FX are in the signal flow in relation to the amp/cab sims, it doesn't really make much difference either way...you can't change it. It is what it is.
  14. Digital fisticuffs over a tuner... I love the internet. ;)
  15. "I'm talking about a line in the sand, Dude!";)
  16. Well that narrows it down. It's not the "brains" of the JTV, which is a good thing. In order from most to least likely, I'd say it's either: 1) the cable...look at both ends. Sometimes one or more of those pins get bent. 2) the VDI jack on the guitar, 3) the POD has an issue somewhere. Start simple...get another cable. You need that anyway. The stock one is not terribly "robust", if you will. You certainly can't gig with it. If that solves it, great. If not, then start looking at problems that are a bigger pain in the arse...
  17. I had a Warmoth neck on an older Strat at the time...wanted to be sure that it would fit before I went ahead and ordered another one, so I bolted it on. 3 of 'em lined up just fine, as I recall. It was several years ago now, so perhaps I'm imagining things...maybe it was only two, but it was definitely bolted on, enough to handle the guitar normally without destroying anything. The new one I ordered, I specified "no holes", so those were all tapped and drilled specifically for the JTV, so I couldn't be 100% sure at this point without throwing that old neck back on there to see...I'm too lazy for that, lol.
  18. ...a black guitar with lots of pointy things that you can impale yourself on. ;)
  19. Seems like it should work...lights on the model knob are coming on. Try another VDI cable...you REALLY need a sturdier one anyway. That sh*tty one that comes with the guitar is only intended for connecting to Workbench with the USB dongle. If you try and use it in your rig for any length of time, the end without the metal housing is gonna get destroyed. Do you get sound with the battery and a regular 1/4" cable?
  20. I dunno...I find that my wife tends to have a deafening silence. ;)
  21. Exactly! Which it what makes it all so silly....we're attempting to define the undefinable. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to figure out how to stuff this grand piano in my nose...;)
