  1. Despite official proclamations to the contrary, you don't need one. There's nothing about slotting a nut on a JTV that's any more exotic than any other guitar in the universe. Any competent luthier can do it. The only question is whether or not you're willing to pay for it...granted that stings a little on a new guitar, but "authorized service centers" the world over are a roll of the dice anyway. Cough...Warmoth...cough, excuse me. ;)
  2. Lol...take away that guy's fx, and there would be no U2.
  3. The one guy who was able to be the most honest about it was Blackie Lawless from WASP...said in an interview once, in reference to his legendary flame-spitting cod-piece (which had apparently burned him on stage once)..."If we wrote better songs, we wouldn't have to do this s**t"...priceless.
  4. SSHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't say that out loud...Men In Black from an "authorized service center" will whisk you away for "re-education". ;)
  5. lol...I don't see that going away. We'll all be lucky if the gubmint doesn't find a way to keep us paying taxes two years after we're dead. :D
  6. Reading that post, I can almost smell the Aquanet...ah, simpler times, lol
  7. I'm not saying it's good or bad...but whether it was by design or an accident of fate, that "Line 6 design" looks an awful lot like a Pacifica, and I think that you're gonna find it difficult to get people to stop calling it the "Yamaha Variax"...nearly impossible to undo a first impression. Just ask anyone who hates their mother-in-law... :P
  8. True...much of brick and mortar retail is on life support anyway...they just can't compete with online businesses. Too much overhead. On a long enough timeline, most of it will disappear in favor of a bunch of Amazon showrooms.
  9. There will always be the "look at all my expensive crap" players out there. I suppose the theory is that if it costs more, it must be better. Like everything else in life, sometimes you get what you pay for, and sometimes you don't. No one will ever convince me that the LP that Gibson built from a 3D scan of one of Les Paul's own personal instruments...currently being hawked for an amusing $10K...will sound any "better", or even significantly different from the one that will cost you $2k...but I digress. Use what you like, and buy what you can afford...but SRV played a beat-up Strat he found in a pawn shop for a couple of hundred bucks. Would some Fender Custom Shop "relic-ed" monstrosity that cost 10 times as much have made him a better player? I seriously doubt it. Marketing is all about perception...ad execs have little use for reality. Maybe I'd decide the Axe FX or Kemper are "better" than the POD...never played either one, so I have no idea. BUT...to justify the price-tag, (especially for the Kemper), I'd have to be hearing the guitar equivalent of a choir of angels coming out of the thing before I took a $4K plunge on a guitar amp and pedalboard.
  10. I'm sorry, you'll have to speak up...can't hear a word you're saying. :P
  11. That sux...this is the second limiter issue posted in as many days...
  12. Try the Shiva...I'm loving it for lead patches
  13. Yep...a "dead" environment can play a HUGE roll. My little home "music cave" is presently a carpeted room, with a small (but fluffy) couch...it's the room where treble goes to die. Even at moderate volumes, the room just sucks up all the high end...take those same patches to a bar with a high ceiling and hardwood floors and it's like driving an ice-pick through your head. Global EQ has been a God-send.
  14. What's "normal" depends on how you're using the speaker. The light on the front of the speaker should be white under most operating conditions, blue when receiving info from a Stagesource mixer via L6 Link, and red only when the limiter circuit kicks in. The limiter is there to (hopefully) prevent you from blowing a speaker if you're pushing the amp too hard. If the light is on constantly, even when you're not playing, then I'd say it likely needs service.
  15. Try the XXL30 cab (I think that's what it's called...don't hold me to it, I'm not in front of the POD) and the 421 mic...It's still bass-heavy, so I'll usually have the low cut at about 140Hz, depending on the amp model, and keep the amp's bass knob somewhere between 20-30%, but much of the shrillness (which I find more difficult to dial out) is cut for you.
  16. He means the sale prices are the result of the Guitar Center / Musician's Friend death spiral...not the DT series. That company has been hemorrhaging money for years.
  17. Seriously, what's there to see? You still have the same three options: Fix or replace the nut (attempting it yourself, paying someone to do it, or sending it in for warranty work), replace the neck, or exchange the guitar. No other options will be forthcoming no matter how many measurements and pictures you take. It either plays correctly, or it doesn't. If you don't want to send the guitar back, and you don't want to pay for a set-up to have the nut fixed or replaced, then that leaves a warranty job. In all likelihood, that will take longer than exchanging it for a new one, and may or may not yield better results than paying a decent luthier to do the work (which should not be terribly expensive). In my experience, "authorized service centers" are a crap shoot, at best. There's still replacing the neck...but that's certainly gonna run you more than the cost of a set up.
  18. I sympathize with your problem...the nut should have been cut properly from the get-go, but the amount of mental gymnastics you're putting yourself through is making ME dizzy ;), and no amount of caliper juggling will change your options...it's a new nut, new neck, or new guitar.
  19. Payola?!?!?! In the music business?!?!?! Say it ain't so, Flava Flav. :P
  20. That amp has an FX loop (the 1/4" SEND and RETURN jacks on the back panel). I wouldn't mess around with plugging the POD into the CD/MP3 jack and the "dummy" plug in the front...it may technically work, but it's a jury-rigged work-around, and not really what it's designed for...Just use either the L or R 1/4" out on the POD into the RETURN jack on your amp...should work just fine.
  21. Ok...but I'm not sure what having that information is gonna do for you. Either way, it's a problem that needs fixing. Good luck with it.
  22. Trust me, there's nothing for anyone to check...as fancy as the JTV's are, Line 6 did not "re-invent" the nut. No guitar on earth is supposed to do that.
