  1. I'm a little confused... you're getting sound when the unit is turned off, but not when it's on?
  2. Check the settings in the input block.
  3. Correct... either the 1/4" or XLR outs will work just fine. Monitors generally do not come with cables.
  4. Depending on how much horsepower your computer has, if you set things up that way and try to monitor through the DAW, you may run into some latency problems...but there's no need to do it that way. Just connect the monitors directly to the L and R outs on Helix, and monitor that way.
  5. I would open a service ticket at this point... or return it if you're still within that window, and start fresh with a new unit.
  6. Seems like you've done all the reasonable troubleshooting... boomy low end is a common gripe with FRFR setups, but can usually be remedied with appropriate EQ. Perhaps it is a faulty unit? If you're creating your own patches, you could try uploading one or two, and someone can give them a test drive ams see if they have similar results...
  7. FRFR is a different animal, and thus requires a different approach. Some warm to it, some don't. Nothing wrong with wanting the "amp in the room" thing. Personally, I'm perfectly content with "amp in the next room"... ...3 cheers for options! ;)
  8. No experience with the KRK's, but I have a buddy with a small project studio, and he's got those Yamaha's... We've recorded a couple of album's worth of tunes with them, no complaints.
  9. Aside from the fact that you'll need a power amp to drive passive speakers (which of course is another expense, unless you've got a relatively transparent amp laying around), it really makes no difference...the speakers' frequency response is what matters. Where the juice is coming from is largely irrelevant.
  10. Decent studio monitors don't have to cost a fortune... and the are many choices in the sub- $300/ pair category. Size drives the price, really... just depends on the available space. I have a pair of JBL LSR305's, and I like them a lot. They're fairly small af monitors go, only 5" drivers, but they deliver plenty of low end given the size, and have a reasonably flat response. You can do anything you want with them... the smaller ones won't deliver stage-volume levels, but that's not what they're for anyway.
  11. You could probably make either work with the appropriate adapter(s), but honestly you don't want to use generic PC speakers anyway. They are almost universally awful, and you've just purchased some top-shelf gear... don't skimp on the output. You wouldn't put 4 space-saver spare tires on a Ferrari. Speakers are a HUGE part of your sound. Either a good pair of studio reference headphones, and/or monitors is what you need.
  12. Yup...it's the result of countless variables. Other hardware, the chosen monitoring method, what you play, how you play it...all sorts of other intangibles that make each of us sound like the players we are. It's why Customtone is useless 99.97% of the time...
  13. My mistake...I was thinking Helix floor, not the Stomp, so it doesn't apply anyway. Can't really chew up 1/3 of the available blocks with amps...
  14. Seems unlikely that two new cables are both defective... have to consider the possibility that the problem lies elsewhere. The connector either at the guitar or the POD could be the culprit. Does the guitar work with the battery and 1/4" cable? If it's not the guitar or the POD, then get one of these: https://btpa.com/98-030-004-XXX.html It's a sturdier cable, and will probably cost you less than you shelled out at GC, unless you order one that's a mile long.
  15. Take it back, get another one.... or you could try updating to the latest firmware. Quite often you don't have the newest version right out of the box anyway.
  16. I'm gonna name mine Charlie...
  17. Simply put, no. It's just not how L6 does things. Honestly, I don't know of any gear manufacturer that announces what they're working on before it's ready for prime time. It's a great way to pi$$ people off when things don't go as planned. "Where's "X" that you promised us?!?!??!?"....but I digress. We find out about new stuff when they want us to find out. If you spend any significant time around here, you'll see this same question asked time and again... followed by the the inevitable lament that this is how it is. Is anything in the pipeline? Of course there is...otherwise they'd go out of business. But the ones who actually know what those things are, ain't talkin'...
  18. I like running stereo FX too... at least for playing/recording at home. So for me it's either studio monitors or headphones, depending on the hour. I also have an L2T that I use as a monitor live, but it's serious overkill for my small "studio" space at home, and two would be ridiculous, lol. In the end, needs, available space, and budget will make the decision for you. There's nothing wrong with a good pair of near-field monitors. But hey, if you have a huge room and the nearest neighbor is a mile down the road... then by all means, go big and go loud! ;) Patches will have to be tweaked accordingly either way....
  19. Well you seem to know what your options are already... the only real question is whether or not you'd miss the whole "amp in the room" thing, which might make the Powercab a consideration, as that is what it's designed to bring back to the equation. Personally, I don't miss it...I do a lot of recording, and was quite accustomed to listening in the next room through studio monitors, long before I ditched my amps... it's been years now, and I wouldn't go back if you paid me. Well, maybe if you paid me, lol...but it would have to be a large check, and somebody else would have to carry all that $hit...my back hurts on a good day. ;)
  20. ...but I don't want to spend the extra money. ;)
  21. This is what snapshots are for. Switching patches entirely will always be accompanied by an audible gap... using snapshots within a particular patch to toggle blocks on and off, and/or change settings within one or more blocks, eliminates that problem.
  22. They're not gonna build a 3-slice toaster... you'll have to make do with either the 2 or 4-slice model. Life's rough...;)
  23. Ok, you've got the amp covered... so scoop the mids, and you're off to the races. ;).... effects can be anything you want them to be.
  24. Modeling is all the same, but some of the factory alt tunings are different. Doesn't really matter though, as you can create any alt tuning you want and save it to the guitar anyway.
