Latest version of Variax Sounds??
cruisinon2 replied to soundscore's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
They debuted in 2010...for a tech- heavy product, that's ancient. Haven't been any new models in 4+ years... so don't hold your breath. Without knowing what firmware you have installed, it's impossible to tell if you've got the latest HD models or not. So there may or may not be stuff that's "new" to you... but even if there is, realistically it's still old news. -
Tread cautiously, my friend... lol ;)
-
I'd just like to add special emphasis for numbers (1) and (3), as they often go together...;)
-
I sympathize with your plight, but it's overlooked for a reason... lefty players are a tiny percentage of all the world's guitarists. And for a niche product like the Variax, which is a tough sell to a lot of players anyway, there's just no money in producing a lefty model. Back in my teaching days, I'd discourage any and all beginning students from starting on a lefty guitar for this reason... playing righty, even if one is naturally left handed, can be done. I was raised by one, lol... and I know several other local pro/semi-pro guys who are lefties, but play right-handed.

A better question would be has anyone ever done anything successfully in a Linux environment? ;)

Regrettably, intermittent problems usually don't get fixed until they become constant, reproducible problems...no matter what the device. Open a support ticket and see what they tell you. In the meantime, back everything up, and try a factory reset. And/or install the new 2.7 firmware, and then do the reset. That's likely to be the first thing support tells you to do anyway, and whatever the problem is, it's not likely to make it any worse... good luck.

Up the ante! Stoke the embers! lmao....;) This is comedy gold, gents. Somebody print out a transcript and send it to Mel Brooks... I'm thinking "Modeler Anxiety" or "Firmware Saddles". Ten bucks and a week's worth of psych meds for the best title...;)

Panini press, cappuccino machine, and a missile launcher....;)

DING! DING! DING!.. you got it! ;) We can all thank social media, in all its malignant iterations, for elevating every opinion, minor gripe, or perceived slight to a Federal case...complete with a "victim" to be martyred and perpetrator(s) to be blamed, shamed, and punished. Twitter Mob justice rocks! We now return you to your wholly manufactured and utterly phony outrage...(insert "harrumph!" and/or indignant sniff here) ;)

You're always gonna have difficulty with patches created by someone else, and it's largely the result of what you're monitoring through, and the volume at which you're doing it. Speakers are 50% of your tone, if not more. There's no way to tell from a YouTube video what was used to dial in the sounds you're hearing...studio monitors, headphones, a traditional guitar amp, etc. etc....it all matters. The volume at which it was done is also a complete mystery, and an absolutely critical part of the equation. I've tried both free stuff from Customtone, and some purchased ones...99% were a complete waste of time and/or money. You will always have to tweak them to your rig and personal taste.

But where's the closure? Plow on until somebody "wins"... or the cops show up, whichever comes first, lmao. Either way, Best. Thread. Ever...;)

Gimme more $hit! Gimme more $hit! Everybody!!!!! Entitlement never gets old.... it just smells that way. ;)

Former HD500x User Thinking About Getting The Helix Rack - Question

Whatever you do, don't sell off any gear until you've test driven it's replacement... that has the tendency to not end well. -
Former HD500x User Thinking About Getting The Helix Rack - Question
cruisinon2 replied to rlama5150's topic in Helix
This is one of those questions that doesn't really have an answer... it's entirely subjective. Some will tell you that Helix's stock cabs are perfect for their needs, and others will swear that they're the worst thing since smallpox, and 3rd party IR's are a necessity. They each have their pluses and minuses, and I use both. Most of the companies that sell IR's will have a couple of free ones that you can try... but the paid ones are not terribly expensive anyway. Many packages are in the $10-$50 range, and typically contain dozens if not hundreds of individual files... quite possibly more than you'll have the patience to audition. Try some free ones, or drop twenty bucks on a package or two...compared to what you spend on Helix, it's a minor gamble. See which you prefer....there's no "right" answer. -
All I can say is the official L6 bag wasn't much better in that regard. I needed a tub of Crisco and a sledgehammer to get the thing in there initially... got a little easier over time.

If you're never leaving the house with it, just get a pair of decent studio monitors. Volume will be more than sufficient, they'll allow for the use of stereo FX, playing along with songs or backing tracks, doing your own recording, etc... you'll thank me later. Options abound in the $300/pair and under category. Stick with names you've heard of...JBL, Sony, Yamaha, JBL (yes, I said JBL twice) etc. The only real decision is size, which is determined mostly by the available space, wherever they're gonna sit.
-
That's it! "New from Line 6: Eternal Tone...The Helix Urn"...;) It'll need wifi and a small speaker so you can stream your own recordings. Or just creep out your loved ones every Thanksgiving with an endless loop of "Dust In The Wind" from the up on the mantelpiece...;)

before buying Helix Native, will you release soon a new helix?
cruisinon2 replied to macello's topic in Helix
Lol... one would hope that they'd have a better reason than that. Everything gets pirated... unless we want to roll back the clock to 1882, software piracy will be with us forever. -

Hmmm... wonder why they'd sit on it? Selling 1's and 0's is the best margin on earth... there's no "thing" to build. After you recoup the initial development costs and the advertising, it's essentially pure profit. Unless there's some fundamental flaw that they can't get rid of, but that would seem unlikely. Weird... -
Ok, I'm confused...if you don't know your password, then how did you log in to post this?

See my post above... because the ugly truth is this: At the speed at which technology is currently evolving, it is a virtual certainty that the "next big thing" is gonna come along before you have anything that even vaguely approaches a genuine "need" for it. And unless you're filthy rich, probably long before you're prepared to spend money on it... whether you need it, or not. If I were to obsess over this fact, then I'd end up going to my grave, still playing through the crappy Peavy Bandit combo I had when I was 15...;) -

Agreed... our "latest and greatest", planned obsolescence tech-economy has conditioned us all to believe that if we don't get the newest toy yesterday, then we're "missing out" (thanks Apple...;) ), hence the constant barrage of "Where's the next update?!?!?!?!?!?!" threads. But without some quantum leap in modeling algorithms/methods/UI/etc, then what's the point in rolling out a new device every couple of years? If you have money to burn, then God bless... spend it, cause you can't take it with you... but I don't, lol. If "Helix II" were to be announced tomorrow, I'm not getting in line to replace the core of my rig for what would be only minor, incremental improvements. Hell, I waited 2 years into Helix's life cycle to replace my 500X... -
Oh I know...just goofing. ;) "Free" stuff is never free... and near as I can tell, the only difference is whether you pay on your way in, or on your way out. It does suck that you guys can't get a free backpack though... but hey, you can't be blamed for Budweiser, McDonald's, or The Backstreet Boys either... win a few, lose a few. Rock on! ;)
