  1. Being budget minded and having to add pieces slowly to attain The Dream Rig, I'd ask you what's more important first? Great sound out your HD or cool guitar modeling and tuning options? For me at my low skill level, and if I could do it over again, I'd start with either two DT's or two Stage Sources and add the Variax later. This comes with learning about output modes and how dual tones really work. I can expound on that, but I think if others with more time on the Line 6 gear jump here, they can better explain where I'm coming from.

    75 Or 150?

Maybe while you're in there, add a 2nd speaker jack and run to 1x12 cabinet. I've been tempted to do the opposite, add a jack that create a bypass to the amp and use the Amplifi as cabinet. HHhhmmm...now that I've typed that, I might research doing both!
  3. Thanks! Yeah, I can see that happening. I just got my VDI cable from Best-Tronics, hopefully I'll be more inclined to just leave this new cable plugged in. When I bought my second guitar many year ago, I also got a wireless system. Always been wireless, I got some adjusting to do.
  4. Hello, Is there an easy, non-destructive way to remove the little flappy door on the JTV? Thanks, - Tony
  5. Hi gang, ...and to hear each amp model in the patch. I have one (1,single, uno) DT25 combo. One HD500X. One very nice JTV-89F. A VDI cable and an appropriate quality XLR cable for L6 Link. I've read for hours each day for the past weeks to exhaustion. Both L6 forums and where ever Google takes me. Near as I can tell I gotta have two of something, either DTs, Stage Sources or active monitors, etc. Since I started with the DT25 I've been amazed and spoiled. I JUST read a thread about using an expression pedal to "mix" two amp paths together in the POD.... I'm about to return the Variax (did I mention it was very nice?) in exchange for another DT25 combo. Or go another direction with two L2m's, in which case the DT would have to go too (output modes, ARGH). So how are you guys (forums folks, not directed at Line 6) dealing with this? I'm reading that there's lots of us trying and search... - Tony
  6. You got another USB cable laying around you can try or borrow one? Temporarily unplug something else you have and use its cable, like a printer....
  7. I totally agree. And a big thank you to those taking the time to describe their patches and settings in the comments section. I love the advanced search idea. Selecting a DT series or FRFR setup, you should be able to download a patch that will "just work".
  8. Thanks for the tip! How well does the Best Tronics cable handle being rolled over a couple times with a desk chair on shag carpet? My arrangement isn't very conducive to sitting and playing, scooting back to to tweak a knob, roll forward to keyboard/mouse and #%$^#$%!! I'm about to Google for a coiled CAT5. At least a coiled guitar cable anyway. Then again -- I just discovered two days ago you don't have to have to use the VDI cable to get the modeling out the 1/4" of the JTV, so I can be wireless now. Until I venture into patches changing JTV models, which I have, and is incredibly cool, but I'm still getting the hang of the DR. - Tony
  9. Happy Monday! I'm hoping by the title of this forum, this is where we can let loose a little and not be topic specific in terms of support and helping each other out. I'm reflecting on my Dream Rig right now. I would hug it, but that would be weird... I wish the POD HD and DT lines had knobs and numerical displays like the old Johnson JM150 and 250. You change a patch and each knob took on the level setting in the patch. If you turn the knob, it just adjusts from the level in the patch, not the knobs current value. And doesn't jump to its current physical level when you touch. i.e. Volume Channel knob is dialed to 12 O'clock, or 50%. You change to a new patch and the Channel Volume of the patch is 25%. You want to tweak the level and touch the dial to turn it to up -- just a little -- from 25% to 40%. What you get now is an immediate, although split second, jump up to 50% as you dial it down. in the Johnson line, the pots had no stops, they were continuous and no lines printed on them. And each knob had a display above it of the level setting, down to one decimal point. In my example above, when you change the patch the Channel Volume would read 2.5, not 5.0. You dial the knob slightly clockwise and it goes from 2.5 to 2.6, etc. The knobs take on the patch setting's value, not its last value. There is a few good YouTube videos out there about these amps. I'd love to have one. They had it going on, brains, tubes and it they're stereo. Came with Vintage 30's too. Later, - Tony
  10. Hi again, At some point in the last 1/2 hour I had both L6link and 1/4" line out working. Must be related to the order of turning things on. Don't know for sure, but I'm very happy now. Just need to figure out WHY/HOW they both suddenly worked. I'll reply again with my findings in a little bit. I need to rest my ears. Wonder if I can get the S/PDIF and DT to work at the same time too now? Man can that little DT25 1X12 combo catch you off guard with the Master at 2 O'clock and land on a patch you haven't tweak for channel volume yet. Momentary heart attack. Haven't seen the cat in a while either. Can't imagine that mistake with DT50 212 or 4x12. Celestion should be broke in now... - Tony
  11. Hi all, I can't make the 1/4 outs work at the same time the DT25 is on via L6link. The 1/4" seem to turn off. Any ideas? Thanks, - Tony
  12. Hello, First of all, I love my Dream Rig. I understand the output mode changes from whatever I had it set on (Studio/Direct) to Combo Front whenever the DT comes online. But why is it game over for other outputs (S/PDIF, 1/4" Outs) as soon as I turn on the DT amp via L6link? I just assumed the signals would continue to flow out all other outputs. Also, a related question: In the future will we be able to control output mode modes per output connection? Thanks in advance for your input, - Tony
  13. Awesome! Thanks for the reply! I'm ordering up an Amplifi 150 right now :-) I can get so much more use out an Ampllifi than a just buying a monitor for the HD500X. Best of both worlds.
  14. Ah, finally someone thinking like me :-) Could you please try swapping your current amp for the Amplifi out of the HD500 and see well it does with the HD500 providing the amp/cab modeling and distortion effects? Testing both Studio/Direct to the AUX and Combo Front and treat it as the solid state amp it is, selecting no amp, no cabinet and turning off all the effects. I created this tone in the Amplifi app earlier today to see if it could be and it looks doable to me, I just don't have an Amplifi to connect to my HD500. Also there is a Tube amp model (just right of the No Amp) that might be a better choice for the Combo Front. Using AUX in, it's just a speaker and any setting on the Amplifi are ignored. Thank you!! - Tony
  15. My real question: How does the Amplifi sound connected to a HD500x configured: Combo/Stack Front: HD --> Guitar In on top with no modeling or effects (create a "pass through" patch and save it locally on the Amplifi). - OR - Studio/Direct: HD --> AUX in on the back of the Amplifi. I'm trying to find someone that has access to this gear and can try this. I am interested in all the features of the Amplifi too. And that nice wall of sound you mention I want for my living room which is both home theater and home studio. I'm worried that since monitors are near field and I like to wander around with wireless when playing, once I leave that small triangle of sound produced by the monitors, I won't like what I hear. Putting two Amplifis in the back of the room (or front) in each corner as either Left and Right or path A and B from the HD, it should fill the room nicely with guitar sound. I would mainly use it as a speaker from the HD500. But, can grab it and take it to our (Alano) club for dances or park it on the back patio when I have friends over. Now I'm gong to ramble on... What I really want, doesn't exist -- yet. A DT25 combo with the Amplifi's speaker configuration, add the brains of L6 Link connectivity. I ran into some problems trying to do line out for stereo to another set of speakers with the DT25 connect via L6 Link. Can't have both Studeio/Direct and Combo Front. The output settings were independent, I'd be ecstatic. I've always had to sources of sound, two amps or two speakers/monitors out of a mix from an old RP500. I got the Dream Rig and can only afford one DT25 or Stage Source. It sounds great, but sound is only from source or spot in the room. I want to two. It sound really clear going through 7.1 home theater system via S/PDIF set a all channels stereo, but the guitar bassiness is from the sub woofer and just feels weird. Also, as soon as I turn on the DT25, the S/PDIF is then cut off. ?? That would have been perfect for me. Thanks for listening! - Tony
  16. Right. But what if you're wanting to use the Amplifi as the amp/monitor off of the HD? I think the original poster is asking exactly what I was going ask, but he beat me to it! Anyone with an HD500(X) tried an Amplifi as the amp or speaker/monitor? If so, how does it sound. If not, how do you think it will sound based on your experience with the HD and other amps or monitors and also have used or played with the Amplifi. I had an Amplifi for two weeks. Then I learned about the HD500x. To make a short story: sent Amplifi back, got HD500x instead. Love it. Read more about Dream Rig. Now I have a JTV-89f and DT25 combo and things are have gotten complex. I want more "sound" (not volume), two amps or monitors, not just one. I can't swing the cost of a 2nd DT25. I can get $$ back on DT25, looking at L2m Stage Source, but can't afford two. So I'm wondering how well two Amplifi's would work? Either line out from HD to Aux ini on the Amplifi or combo front out of HD to guitar in. Going to fiddle with the app to see if there's a "null" amp or ability to disable all effects to do this. I'd like to get back the multi-purpose of the Amplifi and give it (ideally two) yet another purpose hanging off my HD500x. To summarize, any thoughts on two Amplifis would sound with the HD500x? Thanks, - Tony
  17. I just got the dream rig two weeks ago. Funny, I've been meaning to ask, "where is the DT25 amp model on the HD500x?"
  18. FYI - http://geekbeat.tv/review-line-6-amplifi/ I've been watching Geek Beat for a couple years now. They do good, full reviews of geeky products. - Tony
  19. Hello. It's three months from the last post to this thread.... Any updates on this? I *just* had this same idea about 3 minutes ago, Googled and landed here. I had an Amplifi 150 for a while, then learned about the HD500. I traded the Amplifi for an HD500x. Then bought a week later got a JTV and DT25 (yeah, Dream Rig). The DT25 seems to be a bit more of a power house than I (or my neighbors) need. I'm wondering too if the HD500x and Amplifi would be a good match cabled like RNRage mentioned. I want the DT25 to do the dry and something for wet effects. Looks like the way to do this right is a mixer and another set of speakers, which I have and am trying to get away from. The Amplifi does this already. <a few minutes pass and some nicotine is inhaled> Okay. This just got complex. My last sentence above doesn't pertain. That wouldn't be the right way to connect the two. The amp should still be connected as an amp probably via FX Send from HD to guitar input of Amplifi and for stereo come out of HD from ____ to Amplifi's AUX in for stereo/wet. And the iPad gets involved again. Someone please jump in here and straighten me out. :-) My "Dream Amp" would be adding the stereo functionality (mids and tweets) to the DT25. No bluetooth, matching, etc. I just about deleted this post, and I should because I don't want to create any confusion, but I'm curious where this conversation may go.... - Tony

    Pod Xt Live.

Since you've already got an amp and cabinet, you may wish to look at a FX100 instead If I understand correctly, I think it does what the Amplifi does in terms of modeling and using an iOS device for editing, streaming, etc. but in pedal board form and is $200 less.
  21. You'll get more hours on the iPad on the train...Might as well also get yourself a nice set of bluetooth headphones too! ....and later an Amplifi :-)

    Pod Xt Live.

Yep, 1/8" stereo in for AUX. As long as the XT is doing the modelling, it should work and sound great. Using the AUX input will not be affected by the tone and reverb controls. Anything coming in from AUX seems to be treated just like bluetooth streamed music would be, at least that was my experience with the 150. You might be able to go line out (Left/Mono) from the XT ColonelForbin: FYI, I have a Dream Rig now. And it's your fault :-) The way you described the Dream Rig in a previous post a couple weeks ago killed me. Going to sell everything else I have to cover it. - Tony
  23. And take that switch mod a step further to select a speaker input jack to use the Amplifi as an extension cabinet to an amp. It's on Idea Scale. - Tony
  24. I'm curious if this has to do with the iDevice. What model are you using? I have an iPad 2, which I guess is considered "old" now, and have had bluetooth drop out. I like to wander around when I play and if I cross between the amp and iPad it can dropout I also experience slowness and delays navigating around in the app which actually drives me nuts to the point and turn it and the Amplifi off and walk away. Perhaps the processing power in an iPad 2 when combined with both bluetooth and wifi communications is making my experience frustrating. FWIW, iOS is at latest version as well as the firmware on the Amplifi. But, then again I'm not a big fan of using one finger to do control everything. My finger don't always seem to register on the screen and my accuracy hitting the right thing seems to be off. I guess that's just me though. I grew up with technology using a keyboard. Just a keyboard. Mice didn't come into play until we starting using Windows 3.0. - Tony
  25. Did you happen to take any pictures of the inside?
