1. that depends on what you mean by lag. Your version of lag may be what I call change time, or may be what I call 'damn this is quick'. 2. unplug the USB. It is well known that EDIT slows down the unit.

After the firmware update ==== Do the other reset too. yeah, I know, i should know the name and procedure, but it is escaping me at the moment.

2 questions. How do I use my Pod HD500X with my guitar cab?
pianoguyy replied to EncoreBlade's topic in POD HD
I use a $20 set of computer speakers. They provide a decent sound for what I need them for when I need them for it. But, to answer the question, and to repeat what others have said: The HD500 does not power a cab. You need a way to power it (a power amp). What you need is really up to you and based on the requirements of yous cab. -
I am not going to flame you. I just want to point out that my experience with luthiers is horrible. Guitar players who became luthiers to better their guitar building/modding, they do better than a just a standard luthier. I know it is a fine line between the two, but it really does make a difference. 'Guitarist first' means they understand guitarist issues better than 'luthier first' who understands that if you put this piece of wood next to this piece of wood then you will get a harmonically precise vibrational effect. And they are always measuring proper angles and distances instead of using fingers and ears to make adjustments -- reminiscent of the guys here that adjust their EQ by their eyes instead of their ears. But, the other thing to take into consideration is price. A local basement workshop that is building one guitar is going to cost way more than a CS from a decent company. A decent "guitar builder" will often become a popular to place to go, which turns them into Guitar Brands --- someone like Carvin. They never became that huge factory production brand like Jackson did. But are far from a local shop. So you are really getting decent guitars at competitive prices. Which is far better than paying more from local Joe down the block.

I think I've heard that somewhere before, lol. But you forgot the important part -- when I die. I don't know how much of the price is sound quality. But there is an awful lot more going on that would make the price more. Inputs, outputs, screen, pedals, 5 years of price increases. I would assume that it is worth it when you look at everything put together. But, not only do I have perfectly working gear that doesn't need replaced, most of the 'extras' that the Helix has is not needed by me. If I were to be tempted to upgrade my unit, I would rather wait for the Helix JR - something with 1 input and 2 stereo outputs. **and as far as the price is concerned --- any smart business would raise the profit margin after they read the comments of people saying "that price is totally worth it when compared to going out and paying the same price for one amp, let alone the dozens that a modeler gives." And no one even brings up how much a Neumann U87 Condenser Mic costs - but the HD500 can run two of them. That's $6k right there. I mean, $500 certainly seems like a bargain.
-
And of all of the requests that people make for their machine --- Me, personally, would not want this one. Unlike, let's say. an extra amp. If you don't want to use it, you don't use it. But a footswitch would probably be always on. 64 patches available per setlist. That should be plenty for a 10-15 song set. When the first set is done, I take a minute to switch it by hand. Too many chances for an accident to happen when tap dancing on stage. Hell, I am even afraid of that 'touch sensitive' foot switch on the Helix.
-
navigate a setlist - as in, going from patch 1 to 2 to 16 -- yes change from one setlist to another -- no

I don't know if it will work with a Variax when plugged straight in. But there is no reason why it won't work if put in the FX Loop of the HD500. But how can a compressor do the trick if there is not enough volume to create the loop effect? And yes, that is an actual question. I am not too old to learn. The lack of a feedback is great when I am playing pop tunes with Stef, but sucks when I am on a rock stage.

So, then, what was all the talk about the GEQ not working when hooked up via L-link but working with everything else.
-
And then people wonder why I don't state my real name or have a catchy little signature with all of my links on it. 1. I have nothing to promote. Let the promoters do that for me. This is my free time, away from all of that business stuff. Speaking of not promoting stuff --- Nashville, 10pm on ABC. Music available on iTunes. 2. I have been around since before Facebook. We didn't use our real names online --- I don't even use my real name on stage. HA. Kind of sad how many names from over the years I have to remember for when people walk up to me and say "aren't you [name]" I can honestly lie to them. 3. Dillholes like him. Online douche bags are just annoying pests. But, again, I've been around quite awhile. I've had real life stalkers that cause serious issues. Hell, it's probably just some dude who's wife I banged. Don't know. Don't care. I've acknowledged him 3 times. And now you have too. That's more than enough for me. It's one thing to do that sort of stuff in a chatroom. But doing it at places like this and ancestory.com just shows more about the petty person doing it than it does anything else. I mean, how is Astrodronaut going to get his answer when half of his post is this sort of stuff.

You guys and those wife people. And then some even have the little replicas running around. I am so glad that I only have to worry about strippers taking my money and accountants telling me to get receipts. It makes life as a musician far easier. I never have to answer to anyone about going 500 miles for a job or 'please come home, we miss you'. ***after tonight's episode, I am coming home for the first time in like 2 months. I will only be there for a few days before leaving again.

And when they determine that it is ineffective to continue with the HD500 but still want the $500 customer --- making a Helix that has 1 input, 2 outputs, and not touch-sensitive makes more sense than trying to add on to the old stuff. Build the top dog, and then remove features. It is a far easier than the reverse. And is a marketing strategy of numerous companies, especially the L6 parent company - good, better, best. Not that it really matters. Any HD505 or Helix JR is months away. They need to soak up Helix money before they announce something different. I mean, holy lollipop, how long has the public known about the Helix, but it still isn't even in people's homes yet.
-
Yeah, I am not buying a Helix either. But not because of the price, I already have a fully functional unit that does everything I need it to do - otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. The point of it is, though: Some of these guys are rushing out and buying the 'latest and greatest' to compensate for a lack something (lollipop size, money, success, etc) in their life. So, what happens is, these guys will then sell off their old units which causes an increased supply on the used market. The increased supply decreases the selling price. My thoughts are different. Because, sure, there will be an increase of supply. But how many HD500's were sold. And how many Helix's were pre-sold. And then figure how many bought both AND are selling off the old one immediately. I don't see the increase supply dropping the price too drastically. It's not like iPhone 5 and iPhone 6, which are going to sell millions of units. I mean, if you look at the shipping reports. Guitar Center is getting 100 units that have already been sold. Is 100 units going to make a difference in a global price? Multiply that by the 10 dealers that are large enough to sell 100 units. Is 1000 used units hitting the market going to really drop the price? It may, if they all go to eBay. But if everyone sells it on their local craigslist, then no. There will be one unit on each CL, instead of 1000 in one place. ***************************** Yes, piano_xyz, and your new name pianogayy, I get it. You have no life and have created a secret profile to give me a thumbs down on all of my posts because you don't have the balls to use your regular profile. It's ok, I get it. You are jealous that you can't compete. I am fine with it. Especially since I don't follow online rating systems. Hell, at least now you can shoot your wad at the fact that I even acknowledged that you exist.

That's some funny lollipop. But, I think someone answered him and then deleted their post.

You are correct. At least, in certain perspectives. Think about cars. Everyone knows cars. A 2015 Ford Fusion will be replaced by the 2016 Ford Fusion. A 2015 Ford Fusion is not replaced by a 2016 Ford Mustang. The Helix and the HD units are the Mustang and Fusion. Two totally different items. So, no, one does not replace the other. However... On the opposite end of the thought process... The HD500 has been out for 5 years? The Helix does everything it does and more. So, of course it is the replacement model. They are still selling the current products, so from a sales perspective, it makes no sense to call one a replacement. And the price difference certainly makes them attractive to different people. But something tells me (its called common sense), that they will eventually make a Helix Lite, which would be half the price with half the features and then would be a direct competitor for the current HD units. Or, they could, instead of calling it a mini-Helix, they could call it a HD505. Helix and HD500 are not the same as iPhone 5 and iPhone 6. It's more like iPhone and iPod. One is a phone and one is a music player. BUT, who needs an iPod when you have an iPhone that does everything the iPod does and so much more.

TURN THE MASTER VOLUME DOWN
-
Step one: Try a different power supply.
-
I paid $200 (US) almost 2 years ago for a used HD500. Yes, there is probably going to be a price drop due to an increase supply, but that shouldn't stop deals from being had now.
-
I don't know how the good people at L6 feel about me saying some of my opinions, but this isn't the first I've said it so it should come as no surprise... My feeling is this --- If you aren't using amp modeling, then the HD500 is definitely not for you. Unless you enjoy spending money on stuff you don't use. -- like buying a Ferrari to go from the garage to the end of the driveway to pick up your mail and then back to the garage. I can't speak for all L6 products because I never tried them. But the HD units, it you aren't using the modeling, you are paying way too much. I am not complaining about the quality of the fx, but these units are all about the fake amps.
-
I'm so glad that I have a unit that I like and therefore don't need to chase technology. It's a race you can't win.
-
Yeah, that, and, the Firehawk has it's own forum section. People may have be able to help there, lol. Hey, I have no FH experience, but I see the same complaints about the unit that I do own. Yet, I don't have those same issues. My opinion is this --- if you can't get a decent sound out of the unit, that is your own fault. And just to toss this out there... I am a Grammy winner. Sure, they were pre-L6, but I am still at that level of play. I can't use Wal-Mart gear. I use Liine 6.
-
Well, yes, the 300 and 400 will work on bass as well (but will not be able to buy the aforementioned bonus packs). For the money, the 500 IS the best bet. You get twice as many toys with only a 10% price increase. And yes, with the HD500 being 5 years old, one can easily call it out of date. The HD500(400/300) are not instrument specific. You can use it for guitar, bass, keyboard, voice --- anything that has an input. There are some hot vids of an electric violin player with using one. Sure they have a predominant guitar following as well as most of the factory presets, but that is just because guitar players are a dime a dozen. There are a bazillion of 'em, while the world only has like 100 bass players. So of course the marketing material is all going to be gear towards guitar. But you can use the pod for anything. Which, is one of the numerous things about the unit that has expanded my work load without expanding the amount of gear I need to carry, use, or own.
-
I am a firm believer in leaving well enough alone. If you are happy with your pod, don't update. If you don't have any of the issues that were fixed in the numerous updates, don't update. If you don't want the extra features that were included in the updates, don't update. But I am not a tech chaser. I used my old rig for 20+ years. I found something I was happy with and didn't give a rats lollipop about what new stuff was available.
