The HD500x is the better unit, in terms of using it as a musician. Any tone that can be made on the FH can be made on the HD. The opposite cannot be said. It doesn't do computer stuff. With the exception of the little computer stuff that it does. Someone can answer specifically about your Guitar Hero games, because I haven't a clue what those things are. But for the most part, you aren't using an HD for that sort of stuff. So don't be disappointed when they answer.

Depends on the patch and the need for which it was built.

Touch ups and punch in, even multi track and over dub. That is part of the business. Recordings need to be cleaner than live performances. But every note was run through his music computer. It wasn't just a couple dingers that needed fixed. It was everything. And as far as EDM, I actually like it for what it is. They aren't pretending to be anything. It is blatant what they do. I sometimes am a featured performer for an EDM troupe. Sometimes I get out the neon spiderweb guitar and dress like a zombie to play raves under the black lights (ala Babymetal and Here Comes the Mummies). And I have been the guitar player for a Rap label for years, both live and studio. Lol, I don't think I've ever hidden the fact that one night I am playing in a rock band, the next night country, and then pop. Which is the abbreviated list. But that is also why an Android EDIT would be nice, so I can swap files in and out without going home and hooking up to Microsoft.

My footswitches run 5-8 for patch switching. And what is wrong with your volume? Saying "not in the right level" doesn't tell us anything.

I lost respect for Steve back in 1990 when he did an interview for Passion & Warfare, when he stated how computerized the album was. Every note was ran through a computer to make sure everything was perfect. Every note was tuned after the fact (auto tune). Every note was moved to the perfect timing (synchronizing). Bends were perfected by doing both tuning and timing. Sure, the guy can play. But apparently his albums are more fake than a Milli Vanilli concert or Pharell album. And ever since he got into 'mysticism', it has just gone down hill. Art rarely interests me. As I have said many times --- the audience is paying for a service, not to listen/watch you pleasure yourself.

I am not going to advertise or suggest any one particular product. I only use the one I use because it is what I had. Yes, an iPod may work better. When using (the same) headphones, does it produce louder volumes than your phone? If yes, then try the iPod. Don't forget - some products have different volume settings for headphones and for speaker. So, maybe if you have your phone speaker at 10, when you plug in your headphones it is at 2 unless you turn it up to 10.

Worth? Depends on how desperately you need it. It is certainly cheaper than going out and buying a dozen different amps and cabs - even cheaper than just the one that you want. I get all of the sounds I want out of the stock models. I don't even use all of them. I, personally, have no reason for them. That doesn't mean that you don't/won't. *yes, there is a difference between the free and paid marshall amps.

9-11-15 ???? Is this date still the ETA of the Helix
pianoguyy replied to jaminjimlp's topic in Helix
I have not seen one single advertisement and more importantly, I have not heard one person speaking about it --- with the exception of here on the L6 board. That could just be the circles I run in. I mean, I haven't seen an MMR in awhile. So, who knows what I've been missing. But when you use a word like 'great', I should have heard something. -
To reiterate what they said: USB volume can be controlled with with the master volume, but since it also changes the guitar volume - you need to change the volume of the pc ON THE PC. Mp3 volume does not get controlled by the master volume. So again, you need to change it on the device itself. Some of these guys have seen me say this before, but this is new to you: I use an mp3 player. I set my master volume to match. That way I am always pumping out relatively the same volume.

Distortion, reverb/echo, and a Sustainiac are all cheating. We can use them, but we need to make sure that we aren't using them as a crutch. First we need to get the volume situated, which includes taking care of your pickups. Then, and only then, since volume affects tone, can we start building tones. Which could include distortion, reverb. echo, and a Sustainiac pickup. I think the Stanley Jordan tone is just your typical smooth jazz tone. Probably a Fender or Vox amp. He uses Humbuckers, so that seems like a good place to start. *i just read a SJ interview. He said that most compressors may help level the volume, but will ruin tone. https://www.guitar.com/articles/stanley-jordan-interview-jammin-and-jazzin

But, that is going to be the issue - Volume/distortion. I tap. Mostly because it looks cool on stage. But everything I do is going to be distorted. Tapping without distortion requires a lot of help with the volume. Whether you are tapping so hard that you bruise your fingertips, which is considered poor technique. Or if you are tapping and have to jack your volume up all the way. But then you better be prepared to to lower it when you start picking. So try to raise the volume before you try to make tone. Maybe even add a compressor to level out the soft stuff.

Unable to assign Wah to foot controllers. Please help
pianoguyy replied to Atomant669's topic in POD HD
The exp pedal can do anything. I have a couple patches where I can increase the amount of gain. Instead of having a clean and dirty sound, I have all points in between. Real-time pitch shifting. Volume control, I think is a no brainer. But instead of using a separate block as a volume pedal you assign the exp pedal to the amp volume. Panning. Not just left and right. But panning between your clean and dirty amps. If the Pod can do it. The exp pedal can control it. AND, what is different about the exp pedal is that it can control numerous things at the same time. I have one where the pitch goes up while the volume goes down. -
And the opposite of clicking Send to save --- the Receive button will undo any unsaved changes you made on EDIT.
-
Clicking buttons, not so easy. Twisting knobs or getting caught under the exp pedal --- can happen. Which is why my case/board repositions the input jack. BUT: 1. These are no different than any other pedal, with the exception of how wide the opening is on the exp pedal compared to my Crybaby. So, however it is that you keep the other knobs from getting twisted - that is what you do here. 2. Switching back to default is fairly easy. Just step on your switch. It re-opens your already open patch, but back the way it was meant to be. 3. How much could a cord move a knob. Your sound isn't going to be changed that much that it would ruin a performance.

But why not just use both jacks? I prefer 2 XLR, but if you want to use the 2 1/4", that is up to you.

Unable to assign Wah to foot controllers. Please help
pianoguyy replied to Atomant669's topic in POD HD
When you switch from pedal 1 to 2, it is the same as turning it on and off. So, if you have the wah on exp2, when you have on exp 1, the wah is off. Changing to exp2 would turn it on. One of the reasons someone may use a footswitch instead of the exp pedal would be --- let's say you didn't want to chic-chica-chicah, but you wanted to use the effect as an eq at a certain frequency. you assign the value and then on/off it. Which works nicer than trying to kick on exp2 and then find that perfect frequency. -
Unable to assign Wah to foot controllers. Please help
pianoguyy replied to Atomant669's topic in POD HD
Next up ---- Using EDIT goto the Controllers tab. That is where you assign footswitches. Question - Why are you trying to assign a wah to an on/off switch instead of the exp pedal? There are reasons why one would do this, but I am curious if yours is one of them. -
Unable to assign Wah to foot controllers. Please help
pianoguyy replied to Atomant669's topic in POD HD
for starters you are in 1-4 mode instead of 1-8 mode. 1-4 for fx. 4-8 for presets. VS 1-8 for fx. Pedalboard Mode vs ABCD page 14 of the Pilot's Guide -
Tightening the exp pedal would help in that situation too.

While there is no right and no wrong --- there are certainly things that have been tried that can be a good place to start or good thing to avoid. Otherwise, why bother asking questions. And there is also the old adage -- you have to learn to walk before you can run a 100m in under 10s. Which means, learn the basics before you try doing advanced stuff. And people answering questions should also try to remember that too, answer beginner questions with beginner answers.

Douchebag, because an hour after you posted, when I was the first to respond, and I said ---- we are going to need more information You came back two days later saying you just wanted a simple answer. A simple answer to what? I still don't know what you were asking, even after you said that someone answered it. But, SpaceATL is correct. You, and everyone, are more than welcome to post - as a beginner. as a pro. as well as all points in between. We aren't mind readers. We need information to be able to help.

Searching the good amp & tone for a RHCP bass cover
pianoguyy replied to leFloChat's topic in Tone Discussion
First, I don't know how good of a sound you'll ever get out of a Squier. But, I would look for some Funk and some Slap tones. If you ignore the 'rock' classification that RHCP falls under, and just listen to the music --- there is a lot of bright high end slap tone going on. It's very funkadelic. ***************************** Yes, piano_xyz, I get it. You have no life and have created a secret profile to give me a thumbs down on all of my posts because you don't have the balls to use your regular profile. It's ok, I get it. You are jealous that you can't compete. I am fine with it. Especially since I don't follow online rating systems. Hell, at least now you can shoot your wad at the fact that I even acknowledged that you exist. -
Well, I can't speak about the FH because I never used one. But I can theorize with you. 1. There are settings in the HD that can make the same patch sound different (which is one reason why patches on Customtone gets a bad rap). 2. If the FH and HD were the same, there would be no reason to buy an HD since the FH has the added bonus of mobile connectivity. I've always been under the impression that the HD was the flagship device. And the other devices were a 'give and take' situation. They take features away and give some features, like the internet. Musicians who need the best sounding gear with the most complete options for both stage and studio, they went HD. Amplifi and Firehawk were for those who didn't need it all. --- or so I've been told.

I just wan to make sure you understand --- Installing the firmware and then doing a global reset are two separate things. Also, doing a global reset is different than needing to go back and reset your global settings. 1. Backup your patches. 2. Install firmware - and any other software updates that are required. 3. Perform a global reset. 4. Calibrate pedal. 5. Confirm that your global settings are programmed how you want them. (I avoided using 'reset' to avoid confusion). 6. Put your patches back on. 7. Rock on.
-
Backup the backup - but keep it on a separate device. Not just two copies on the same harddrive. I edited my post to clarify. I deleted all L6 related material (except patches) before the 2.6 installation. Not for every update they put out. Just 2.6 But that's just me. Yes, depending on your usage, saving a setlist may be easier than saving individual patches. The reason I save individual patches instead of setlists is because I am involved with multiple projects (which is why a portable/mobile EDIT for file transfer would be so nice). One night I go yee-haw with country, the next night I rock out with my \\ nn // out, and then you find me doing Top 40. Everything is always being re-adjusted. One act may do the same set list a couple times in a row, but then the next month it will be something different. Even in that case, saving a setlist seems more of a hassle to me because I still need individual files the next month.
