  1. I think many of you are forgetting something ---- If no one rushes right out to buy the Helix, by Christmas places like Guitar Center will be blowing them out at $800. Here's another thing to consider: Who is the market for this? Ferrari does not make 3,000,000 cars each year. Cazal is not a household name. Beluga is only available in certain markets. They aren't targeting the commoner. I can't picture a 14 year old kid jamming in his bedroom with a Helix. Can you? The guys that work construction during the week and then 'jam' with a couple bros on the weekend. I don't know why they would need one, but I also don't know if they would spend the money for one. Me, a musician, I could certainly benefit from having 'the latest and greatest'. But if I needed all of that jazz, would I have bought an L6 to begin with? The point being --- of course they are going to continue to make cheaper products to sell to 'regular folk'. Whether they be a Helix-mini or the HD505, that is up to them. But they will lose a significant portion of their market if they drop the cheap stuff. *** For the record. I like my HD500. When I called it 'cheap stuff', it wasn't meant as an insult.
  2. My "rock and roll" keyboards (which is different than my solo dinner theater piano) always went straight to the pa and were fed back through the monitors. Now, thanks to my pod, my guitar does the same thing.
  3. Glenn is a member here. He said you need the pickups. Others have said it. You have your answer to half the problem. Unfortunately, that half is the part that you would really need to have first, in order to proceed any further.
  4. No reason to be embarrassed. Those others should be the embarrassed ones. Sustain pickups - almost a necessity when dealing with songs that have them. My guess would be - because it was a very clear sound and very clear image of the hands. Much nicer (as a sound sample) than a live concert clip. Although, in the live clip that you posted, even though the audio is garbled, you can clearly see him working the expression pedal for some of those volume swells, as well as activating the various sustain options with the flip switches.
  5. Sustaining pickups are useful when trying to recreate a sustaining pickup sound. And it would almost need to be the same model to make sure it has the same sound options. I also saw some volume knob action going on. You could try something like a Reverse Delay and set the mix to 100% so that you hear none of the original tone. That would certainly help recreate short notes not being as loud as a long notes. FYI - Others are under the impression that the video is you playing, and they are trying to tweak what you already have. I am going with that not being you because your names don't match - which means creating a patch from scratch.
  6. Just to emphasize that point.... YOU MUST HIT ENTER/RETURN/OK Your edits will disappear if you do not.
  7. Yes. BUT, will it be a distinguishable change will depend on your settings.
  8. My 12 string gets me the 12 string sound, not the pod. But, as said above, I think the Variax has been shown to give some good results when combined with the Pod.
  9. I have a Boss BR-800. If I have it with me, it is always running. I would never use the it for things I intended on handing out (lack of audio quality), but it is perfect for the thing you described. No real tips because every device is different, and everyone wants it for different reasons. But yes, always have something running.
  10. But too much choice can drive someone bonkers if not they are not mentally prepared for the work it takes to make those choices work. And a new tube of red paint is not quite the same as needing to take beets and mixing them with some egg to get just the right shade with just the right amount of spread-ability and dry time.
  11. Ok. Seems easy enough. I am sure that others (especially if someone googles it) will have the same question some day, so it is best that we get it all out there.
  12. Hi. Welcome to the forums. Home of --- something is wrong with my damn pod, please help me fix it.
  13. Silly question... Why can't he just return it?
  14. Is HX an actual thing? I haven't been hanging out in the Helix forums wishing and hoping for August 14th to know if it is a real thing or not.
  15. yeah they would. Which is why I often make reference to it when people are talking about needing the 'next' product. Gee whiz, I bet that your wife is ecstatic over the fact that you always need to have the newer shinier model with bigger gadgets to toy around with. I stopped building my previous rig in the early 90's and I used it for 20+ years after I bought its last component. I didn't need anything else. I didn't care that the new product came out with a 4 second sampler instead of my 2 seconds. There was not a single thing that I missed for over two decades. I am a professional working musician. I can afford new stuff. And I, in theory, could certainly benefit professionally from having the most current advancements in musical gear. Yet, I used a Rocktron Pro GAP and two ART SGE Mach II's as my primary components (part of a much larger rack unit) until 2014 when I bought a used Line 6 Pod HD500.
  16. I don't mind a TOM when they are set up with a sharp angle. But if they are too level, and I feel the vibration of the strings on the other side --- reminds me of a mild electric shock.
  17. I put some obscene date so that everyone would know that it was just an illustration. I had 1919 but thought someone may think that I inverted and meant 1991. I am not now, nor have I ever been married. Except for a couple crazy weekends in Vegas. But they don't count. Anytime Elvis or Spiderman is involved -- it doesn't count. In fact, one of them doesn't count because I was married and lost track of her and therefore couldn't divorce her -- but got married to someone else in the mean time. It's Vegas. No one cares.
  18. But I mean --- are you being tethered on a live concert stage by a three foot headphone cord? Or being seen by 1000 people with big cans on your head?
  19. Ya know, I got married in 1921. And I was completely happy until my friend brought his wife around. Since then, I have always wondered what I have been missing by being trapped into this commitment with this old outdated broad. If you are happy with what you have, why would you even care what else is available? Guys were using the HD500 for metal for 5 years before the model packs came around and the same with the Helix -- which isn't even out yet. You can't tell me that all of a sudden, metal packs are available therefore your tone sucks and you must have the new stuff! ** I know L6 wants your money, and probably hates every time I bring up common sense thinking which stops others from giving it to them. But my thoughts are - I bought a product I am happy with and will defend when needed to be defended and will promote when needed to be promoted. If I am constantly chasing something new, I can't honestly defend or promote.
  20. If a file format is compatible you can just drag-and-drop the file into EDIT. BUT, even if a file can be imported, there may be a setting that is incompatible. And to make the situation even more confusing --- there are settings that can be opened in 'offline' mode, but when you connect your pod, they don't work. I use offline mode often, to remove something - like a volume pedal or looper - when a file doesn't work.
  21. Does it even need converted? Stick it straight into the machine. If it works it works. If not, then convert it.
  22. How did you plan on using headphones in a live situation anyhow? Unless they are wireless headphones, which usually have their own volume. Also, the master volume is not suitable for that type of use. Set it and forget it. That is why it is called the master. It isn't what you use when you need to make a change to a patch. It is what you use to change the entire device. The good news, though... If you have to adjust the volume in the headphones for certain patches, then you know that you need to adjust the volume for the same patches because that is what comes out of the pa as well.
  23. Be more specific. Where do you have your dry tracks? How are you hooking up your pod? What are you using your focusrite for? To me, I would just run the audio output of the device you have your tracks on, into the input of your pod. And then change your settings as needed. But that sounds too simple?
  24. I know. Sometimes it seems like everyone named Just Startin' always calls people Gear Head, until they get called Iknowathingortwo They never call anyone Power User.
  25. Here's a question i have for you guys: I downloaded --- and I don't remember where from, but I think from L6 --- onto my computer GuitarModelPacksCollectionGB2 PackAttackforPODxtLive214.l6b PacksFanaticBundle214.l6b What are these, and how do I install them?
