  1. 1. I've already seen an increase of them for sale. Which could just be a coincidence. Summer is here. 2. Buying one with model packs is not a reason to buy it. Once you reinstall the firmware, the packs are gone. I would do that the minute I buy a used product to get back to factory settings.
  2. Just to demonstrate to you -- and everyone: Download this patch *HERE* If you want to build a non-exact tone, that is how simple it can be to build an awesome patch. Dual amps and a distortion pedal. It was made in --- minutes. Sure, add a noise gate if the hiss is too much for you. Add some reverb if you want some an 80's metal. Change or add whatever is needed based on what you are trying to build. But really, you could perform an entire concert with just that one single tone. It took longer for me to type this post than it did to make the patch. *DISCLAIMER* If that is all I was going to do for an entire show, I wouldn't have bought the HD500. It is too simple of a patch for the expense and capabilities of the product.
  3. HA. Normally, people would focus on what I said before that. To them, I say: Oh, NOO, someone call 911. We need a Wambulance.
  4. As far as new products ---- There is a new 'high end' unit coming out in a few months. So, my guess would be, either for Xmas or NAMM, they will introduce 'entry level' versions of that product. Which would be the official end of the HD500, although it would still be supported for longer. Buying an FRFR: how big do you need? It is your bedroom. How much volume do you currently use --- that is how much you get again. Do you get two, to run in separated stereo. Can a single cab with 2 speakers work. Did you want XLR jacks. We can't answer that sort of thing. You just need to do your own shopping based on our knowledge and your preferences.
  5. FRFR isn't really new. They just never really called it that. It was never a 'thing'. All FRFR really is, it's a PA system. Small. Private. Personal. We've had 'PA on a stick' for years. It's you home stereo system. Putting out no characteristics of its own. Letting the radio and cassette deck sound like it is meant to sound like.
  6. I mean, I skip any speaker situation and go straight to the PA. I have the sound guy send it back to me in the monitors. But, yes, you are correct, an amp/speaker that has no personality of its own (such as frfr) is the best thing for amp modeling. Putting a Marshall model into a Fender amp/cab is not going to make it sound like a Marshall. Even if you bypass the amp section by using a different input, you are still using a Fender speaker and Fender Cab and all that jazz. (Fender - Jazz. Get it? Piano made a funny) But since you have an amp, and not an FRFR, that is one of the reasons I said that I didn't think either product was right for you.
  7. I don't own the HD Pro, not 100% which unit it even is. So I don't know what it can do or how. But the HD500 can do this by assigning the any number of options to the expression pedal. Whether it be Amp Drive or Distortion Drive, or a wet/dry mix, or even as you said, dual amps. The expression pedal allows all points between 0 and 100.
  8. If the choices are Firehawk and 500, but you hate bluetooth --- then the 500 is the winner by process of elimination. The people who say the 500 is hard to program are douche bags. But the Firehawk is no better. I admit to it being hard to learn - as is any new device/activity. But once learned, it is actually very easy. >>> You're not just learning to drive a car. You're learning to program the clock and tune the radio and control the GPS and use cruise control -- AND change the oil and tires. (Spark plugs and air filters are what you have to also learn on an AXE) The only people who have an inkling of credibility when saying that it is hard to program are the ones who are trying to dial in a precise tone -- like you said, getting the exact Slash tone instead of just a generic distorted guitar. BUT Based on the rest of your statement, I don't know if I could honestly suggest either of them. It doesn't sound like you need, and can't benefit from, all of what the 500/Firehawk has to offer. Even an HD300 is too much unit for you. I would rather see you buy a $50 product and possibly need a 2nd $50 product, than a buy $500 product and only use $50 worth.
  9. So, in computer terms, it is local, not global. Which means --- If you changed Marshall to say Weiner Mobile. Any patch that uses Marshall will show up as Weiner Mobile on my pc. But it will still show up as Marshall everywhere else. And this is only the EDIT program, not the Pod. The Pod will still show Marshall, not Weiner Mobile. Someone could have fun with that. LOL *The Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile was just on the news.
  10. I know the answer to this, but please answer for everyone reading so that no one gets confused with what is actually happening: Assuming that I do not use your file: If you give me one of your patches - what will it appear when I load your patch to my machine? And vice versa. If I give you my patch, what shows on YOUR machine.
  11. Every preset can be overwritten. So, while L6 may have given you 6 sets of pre-written choices and left you with two blanks --- you actually have 8 writable lists. 512 patches in all. And really, if you think about it --- if you want to keep the factory sounds, you can still get rid of most of them. Do you use a Variax, DT, Bass, Acoustic, or Vocals? I don't, so there is no reason for me to keep setlists that were designed for them.
  12. I concur. I use the xlr jacks, the same as I do when going live. I'm not big on the computer stuff. Yes, use both of them.
  13. I am not sure how I would feel about a touch screen for something that you step on. We already have Mr Clown Shoes (sorry, don't remember the name, just the story) stepping on things he wasn't meant to step on. What if he was stepping on the screen changing settings when he was just changing a patch? I think my signature states how I feel about using EDIT on Android, lol. But, I don't know if I would want wi-fi. Just a standard wired connection should be fine -- maybe support for an external wifi adaptor that connects via usb would be better than internal. I see too many issues arising from an open wifi connection.
  14. The fact that distortion amplifies the problem makes it seem like the problem is before the pod.
  15. I think the advertising looks nice. I will give you an opinion on the device when one becomes available --- months from now.
  16. Bitching about the world changing is different than not wasting money on every new item that gets put out. Hey, it's not 1977 anymore. Disco is dead. That era is not coming back. That doesn't mean that you must buy a Miley Cyrus album.
  17. That was the point I was making. But it has since been explained.
  18. That's because you missed the last part -- where I said I would make enough profit to buy a Helix. Meaning, keep one in each residence and sell the rest. Buy the helix with the profit. And, yes, I have multiple 'homes'. Although, some of them are not homes. For example, I have 4 places in Nashville. One is mine that I bought so I could get away from work without needing to leave the area. One is provided by the network, my neighbors are all cast and crew. The 3rd is on set, it is more like an office that I crash in when I work late and need to work early. And the 4th is a 'bachelor' pad, in the city where I 'entertain' after a night of partying. Obviously, I don't need a pod in all four of those. And I don't have 4 homes in every city I work in. But, yes, if I do regular business somewhere, I find it easier to have a permanent place to go, rather than a hotel. Especially if it is an extended stay.
  19. So, in computer terms... It is in beta mode? Which still seems a little scary. Software can be updated for years after purchase. But hardware can not. The production process would be all about hardware. So, if the unit is still being tested, then you could just as easily find hardware issues -- which means production has to cease and the already made units need replaced.
  20. I use a Jackson. But I never do computer recording --- other than the fact that everything is a computer in one form or anther. The sustain is in the pickup. It has nothing to do with an amp. I know it works when ampless because computer recording, for me, would be the equivalent of using an IEM -- there is no amp or monitor that would create a 'natural' feedback. But the feature works. But, the truth is, a sustain pickup seems like a nice idea. It just doesn't really ever get used. I have no practical application for it.
  21. I am a little confused. Some of the posts I see seem to imply that the thing isn't even done being designed. Which means, how would anyone be able to review it. And certainly, there would be no OM for it yet.
  22. I very specifically did not quote anyone. I did not mention a name. I did not mention an action. In fact, I said I wasn't going to even going to say anything about it. So, really, no one knows who or what I was talking about. I mean, sure, it should be obvious to anyone that has read my previous posts, but no one can say with a certainty. And THAT is what a court of law is all about. Beyond a shadow of a doubt! Me not mentioning anything specific IS the doubt. Love me or hate me, you have to admit, it is kind of funny watching people who admit that they can't operate their current equipment, or they complain about not being able to afford model packs or a car --- or the ones who say they can't play and just diddle in their bedroom for fun --- instantly run their mouth off about how they are going to throw away a perfectly good working piece of gear and go buy something that they haven't even heard a demo of, but they have to have it simply because it is there was an advertisement. It's alright. I have $150 ready to buy their unit when the market gets flooded with all of the people chasing technology causing the price to plummet. I will then, next year after the prices settle, sell them for $250. If I buy two dozen of them, I can keep one in each house, and still make enough profit to buy the Helix II when it comes out.
  23. Which is why I asked your experience level first. I could have assumed you knew about that stuff and went into much more advanced stuff. When in reality, tweak the stuff that is found on those pages (as well as a general read of all of the different manuals), and you will most likely fix the issue. ***and if you bought it used, I suggest doing a factory reset.
  24. Nope. Not even close. This is my suggestion: Instead of trying to build sounds, especially specific sounds. Learn how to use the machine first. Toy around with it. Have fun. Learn the basics. Owner's manuals are there for a reason. Pages 13-16 of the Pilot's Guide And, I don't think there is an updated OM yet for FW2.6, which means the Global EQualizer won't be in there. But, the truth is, those other settings will make a huge difference. Just turn the GEQ off if it is on.
