  1. No, they are not. But it is overwhelming at first to have everything (and more) available all in one box. Been there, done that. I know what you're thinking - which is why I am trying to ease your worry. You've had 30 years of experience. Which means you can operate this. BUT, you've had 30 years of adding one piece at a time - which is what makes a complete-rig-in-a-box seem scary at first. But it isn't. Take every pedal you have and every amp you have - that is the Pod. Instead of having the physical boxes, you have them digitally. If you had a fire in your house and lost 30 years worth of gear and had to re-buy everything all at one time - you would have the same feeling of 'this is too much'. Start with an amp. Twist the digital knobs the way you would a real amp. ---- not that scary. Add a pedal, make sure you put it where the real pedal would be in the chain (guitar>pedal>amp), twist the digital knobs. --- not that scary. No different than you would having all of the physical devices. The difference is, because they are virtual devices, you can do so much more - like putting them in different orders, or using two settings for the same pedal. The most difficult thing you are going to find is the initial user settings. And it may take some time to learn what each does and how each one changes everything else.

As with most things in life, how you hook it up it totally your choice based on what you want to do. Some things sound better before other things. Some things sound better after some things. Something sound good either way, but are totally different, so it depends on what you want to get out of it as to if you want it before or after. If you are using a physical amp, the best way to get a good sound is not to use the virtual amps.
  3. Sure, that would make total sense. Most people would do that. The same as most people are going to read the first post and not assume that they needed to know where to get it. But, technically, it was one possible interpretation of what was asked -- even though it was a totally misguided interpretation.
  4. Yeah. The OP did back in August. We told him it was on page 11 of the system menu, but we never told him how to get to the point of finding page 11 - which is downloading the latest firmware. Everyone, myself included, was so concerned with giving technical answers that we forgot the basic answer.
  5. fx loop not only of the unit, but of the amp as a well. Various hookups will allow different things.
  6. Unless things have changed on the site again ---- The free/standard amps have their names listed. The amps listed as numbers are the ones you buy. If you do not own that particular amp, it will be substituted with another amp when installed.
  7. a dozen posts before this. which one are you referring to?
  8. Don't call it a printer cable. In the 'old' days of computer technology a printer cable was something different. Printers had their own cables. Monitors had their own cables. Mouses.... is the plural of a computer mouse still mice? USB (universal serial bus) put an end to all that and made all jacks/cords universal. As far as them all being the same... buying a quality cable is one thing. But once you try buying a chinese cord for a dollar on Amazon, then sometimes you run into compatibility issues because of the pin set up. ---- like diffusing a bomb. Black is not always the ground and red is not always hot.
  9. A clean amp and a dirty amp. Which can sometimes be better than one amp that is both clean and dirty. Two simultaneous dirty amps. Left channel, right channel. Or, like everything else in sound creating ---- just because I can, therefore I will. If you have never used two amps to get your sound in the real world, there is no reason to think you would need one in the virtual world. For the record, I have plenty of dual amp patches on the 500. While amps will use up the most DSP, it isn't simply 'dual amp patches' that are going to give you an issue. In fact, I don't think I have ever ran into DSP problems with patches that I created - only ones I have downloaded. And it is usually, for me, an easy fix, because I just remove something useless, like a volume pedal, to get me within the DSP limit. There really isn't that much extra DSP and you are still limited to two amps and 8 blocks.
  10. lollipop is typically inserted by the censors when you say words like lollipop, lollipop, lollipop, and lollipop.
  11. Really, the only thing you are going to be able to do in the 30 seconds that it takes to make an exchange is ----- 1. make sure it powers up 2. while powered on, step on each footswtich to make sure they work 3. make sure the jacks work
  12. I did it with my keyboards. Of course, it wasn't one of those $99 all-in-one stereos that get sold at Wal-Mart. Plus, keys are different than guitars. But the point is --- no point at all. I just like being contradictory.
  13. Learn something new everyday.... *not that it means anything to me. I don't have the model packs, don't intend on buying them, and I don't intend on selling my Pod.
  14. Why would you make a stereo sound in your bedroom if you know you are playing a mono pa.
  15. But if that is true, that is for YOU. That is not the next buyer.
  16. That's all from a computer translator. I may know how to speak (with mouth) other languages -- or at least enough for me to get food and sex, but I have no clue how I would go about making all of those letters and symbols on a keyboard.

  18. Translation: Hello, I bought metal park on Chоptоnes? How to use is not entirely clear. Help!!! I am not certain that you can use model packs unless bought through Line 6. Are you sure you are talking about the model packs and not just some metal patches?

  20. There is no MUST in music. There is only what works. However, there are things that have been tried by a million people over the years. Some of them work better than others. That is where 'rules' come from -- the people who have done it before you. But there are exceptions to every rule. For example, I run direct to the PA. I have numerous patches that use Pre only. Sometimes with cab and mic, sometimes without. Other times I use the full. I use what sound I can get, not what the rules tell me to use. But the rules are not there for me (a 30 year veteran of the entertainment business). They are there for guys like you -- The ones that are just learning. I will point out, however, if you are using a guitar amp, then I can't say that you will be able to get 'great tone' while using full amps simply because you will be adding amp on top of amp, which means noise on top of noise. That doesn't mean you can't try. It just means that it is one of those 'rules' from the people that have already tried it. It is kind of funny that hughnico is apologizing for repeating information, because as I was reading the posts, I was going to say exactly what he said --- explaining it in terms of real amps.
  21. Not the entire chain. Just the blocks assigned to the same switch.
  22. I'm not sure what role the zip/unzip may have played. But.... with EDIT open, do a double click on a spot that is not in 'Best of HD' - such as "user 1 01A" Then try to open the bass setlist. Files get placed in the slot that is active.
  23. But, understand that if you are using SAME or GUITAR for input 2, changing it to something else will change you tone. Which is fine if you are building tones from scratch. But is horrible if you have already designed your patches and just want to get rid of some noise.
