  1. It is not exclusively a volume pedal. It is an expression pedal that will control anything it is assigned to control. So, no, doing a calibration would do nothing.
  2. George Lucas has often said that you don't release a movie when it is finished, you finish a movie when it is time to release it. You set a deadline and when that deadline comes, you are done. So, as far as how many patches you need to make... Sometimes we need to quit tweaking and just play. Otherwise, you will never stop tweaking and will never play.
  3. Just remember ---- The 'sound engineer' works for you. Sure, he is hired to do a job based on his experience and is to offer advice based on that same experience, but ultimately you are his boss. When it comes down to the final decision, he does what you say. If you like the sound, use the sound. Fire him if he continues to be insubordinate.
  4. Which "setlist" button do you think you are using?
  5. If I wanted to carry amps, I would be carrying amps instead of going modeling. So, yes, I go direct. Guitar=>Pod=>Mixer Every show/band is different, so I no longer have any "rule" for the pan.
  6. $200 new, of course. I have made some really nice $200 used deals. You would be amazed at what crackheads, jilted lovers, and the "lost my job and need quick cash" people will sell gear for. And it is not just a professional perspective. Sure, if you are a novice/hobbyist jamming in your bedroom, that is one thing. And yes, I am in a position to buy nice things. But even if you are once-every-other-month at the VFW, you are a professional. You are a business. Besides, it was more about the meme.
  7. right now, as a new user, I suggest just toying around with it. You can install the firmware at any time. It will erase any changes/errors you made. So right now, just get used to the machine.
  8. manuals are all pdf files download monkey to make sure that the pod is up to date. installing the most recent versions will also blank out any changes the original owner made. but, that also means that certain settings will be reverted as well. and then you have to set them or it will sound like lollipop.
  9. Actually, the four rack/x and pedal/x devices are all very similar. But the 300/400 and the 500 are way different from each other. Much as the others are all different.
  10. Save yourself the time. Just load the files into your HD500. Only convert the ones that give you a problem. Even the ones that give you a problem, some of them can be loaded into EDIT in offline mode, and can be edited so that it does work. I.E., when I have a patch that doesn't work. I open in offline mode and remove something like a volume pedal or fx loop (because I do not use either). And then save the file. It should then work.
  11. I've said that numerous times. The factory patches aren't there to be used, otherwise every album made since 2010 would all sound the same. The factory patches are "far out" because they need to demonstrate what can be done with the unit. The next time you see an ad for a new phone, are they going to open up the dialer and say "this is how you make a phone call" or are they going to say "we have included the ability to display holograms in your living room" Because, quite frankly, I am not going to spend $2k on a phone that has hologram technology unless I know it has hologram technology. lol
  12. I use picks for playability. Not for tone. Like Goldie Locks, too thick, too thin, just right. If I hate how it feels in my hand and it makes me cramp up, do I really care if it brings out a better tone? **exceptions can be made for studio work, where you are trying to create the ultimate tone and can do it one section at a time.
  13. What has ever become of that old thing we used to call --- find a teacher and take lessons. Everything is now an app or a site. And probably all free, right? No one is willing to spend any money, but everyone wants paid themselves!
  14. No se puede abrir en el equipo a menos que sea uno de los dispositivos que tiene un equipo editor (como el HD500 con HD500 Editar). Necesitan abrirse con su dispositivo.
  15. BUT, that's the case for this guy. If you had an online EDIT, if you can upload, you can also make changes and then download. Although, you still can't import to your unit :(
  16. As previously mentioned, there was meant to be a mileage number in there too... $50,000 gear, $5000 car, 500 miles. $50 gig. But apparently, we are so used to buying cheap imported gear at the cheapest online dealer possible, that $50,000 worth of gear is now considered a Kardashian lifestyle? I have guitars worth more than $5k. And certainly going to a gig requires more than one guitar. It may no longer require amps, which also cuts down on the cost of gear, but you guys that go on stage with those $200 guitars crack me up. And I know that we are all sitting around making jokes, but do you know what else cracks me up... Anyone willing to play for $50 --- YOU DESERVE IT. And it cracks me up that you are willing to do it. Everyone and anyone, if you are reading this, tell places that pay less than $250 (per person, after expenses) that you refuse to play there. Tell your friends to do the same. Tell strangers to do the same. Eventually, when places can't find bands desperate enough for a gig for free, they will consider paying more. NOW, I will clarify that by saying -- some of you are trying to get famous. You need the exposure. You are selling T-shirts and albums and other merchandise. Those types of performers can play for less because they make the money from being exposed. You get money by selling your share of the tickets (pay to play). That is different than the bar bands that perform a service for the owner - play music that makes people dance so that they get thirsty and drink more. Or the restaurant lounge act that provides smooth jazz while people eat dinner. Basically, if you are making announcements over the pa like "tip your bartenders", "appearing here next week", or "last call" --- you need paid.
  17. Well, I was speaking in the reverse. Specifically being able to run non Windows software on a Windows computer through simulators. But, to answer the question, I have seen some specific sims that run specific programs. Not a complete simulation of Windows that allows you to open anything. Plus, most of them are simple webpages. You upload a file and it opens in a webpage instead of on your computer.
  18. Ok, my bad. TI-99/4a. I must have gotten half confused with the Commode 64. It has been 30 years. I think I am allowed to not remember precise models once in a while. lol

    FRFR ?

If you are giving up on FRFR for now, the issue later on is going to be: If you design patches using a guitar amp, they are going to sound different when you get to the studio/stage or decide on an FRFR. And no, changing the GEQ or output setting is not going to make them sound the same. A flat system (FRFR, keyboard amp, acoustic amp, studio monitor) is your best bet so that it will always sound the same on various systems. Hell, a home stereo could work -- as long as it is not a Wal-Mart "stereo in a box" type of deal. Without spending a lot of money, a $20 set of computer speakers could get you by with a flat sound.
  20. There are sites that translate, convert, and display all sorts of various information. I don't think that asking if one existed for L6 is unreasonable. There isn't one that we know of, but with so many sites (of that type) out there, it doesn't hurt to ask. A 'spec sheet' where you can print out a hardcopy of the values is one thing. But I think the easiest option would be to make a "virtual EDIT" that runs on the web instead of the computer. You can upload a file to the virtual EDIT and see the settings. Simulators. That's how I can run my TI-94 games on Windows 7. Hell, I have a disc of Nitendo and Atari games that I can play on my pc, lol. Simulate the Windows environment, open EDIT within that simulation.
  21. But, let's say someone has an Android device (since many people have abandoned the traditional Windows computer in favor of alternatives like tablets and smartphones). It is a "computer" and it has internet. But EDIT does not open on Android. Then what do we do? **this is why there are so many HD500's running the original six-year-old factory-firmware. They don't have pc access to do the updates. And then they buy the 500x thinking that it is light years ahead of the 500, without knowing that the firmware updates make the two units the same.
  22. Assuming that I was in a band that took requests and "Only the Good Die Young" would be a song that could be an acceptable request... I would already have patches installed that could be used on an electric that would sound like an acoustic - not sounding like an acoustic the way an acoustic or variax does, but something that would be 'doable'. I mean, sure, if I knew in advance that I was playing it, I would have a patch made specifically for it. But, if I didn't know, I would just have some general patches for all situations. Hard Rock. Rock. Country. Picking. Strumming.

    A 435 hz

To answer both questions (the one you asked and the one you didn't)... The Pod's tuner can be adjusted anywhere from 425 to 455Hz. But, you'll need to detune your guitar for that. The Pod has a pitch shifter. Add it to your chain. That will detune the guitar for you.
  25. You can't unlearn what you have learned. The trick to sounding like you don't know what you are doing is to act like you don't know what you are doing. Instead of doing things that 'sound good', go for things that make no sense... Mix and match amps and cabs. Turn knobs to 10. Add a distortion pedal with another distortion pedal. Maybe you don't even use distortion, just turn a clean amp to 10. That's how they did it before distortion was invented. Think of everything you would do to get a good tone, and do the opposite.
