EW Visit an actual store. With, like, people in it and stuff. Gross. Who does that. That is so 2005. To be fair to the 'younger generation', it is kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. The more people lollipop over the local stores for online shops, the less local stores will serve the customers, which simply drives customers to online stores more.

First, I totally agree with the buying, using, and returning issue. It may be legal, but it morally wrong. And anyone who does it is beneath me. Also, it makes legitimate returns more difficult for certain items --- such as the air mattress that I tried to return because it kept flipping over. Should I really be forced to keep an item that is a danger to anyone that uses it simply because a couple bad apples would buy/use/return an item. Want to know how I got rid of it? Because it was opened, I could not return it. I could only exchange it for the same item. So, that is what I did. I exchanged it for a boxed unit. And then I returned the boxed unit. Dumbasses didn't catch it, even after the computer told them not to let me. Unbelievable. The hassle I needed to go through to get rid of a product that I could not try out in the store that ended up being, not only unsatisfactory, but also dangerous. And I feel like crap for having to pull the wool over their eyes for something that I should have been able to do in the first place. But it is different when it is a virtual item, because my stripper can't keep her thong after she returns it. But I can make a copy of the video that we made so that I can show her that I deleted it yet still maintain a copy === and then copy and redistribute at will. Napster is a good example - my one legal digital copy of a CD could turn into 1000 copies in a matter of minutes. But, I can only let one person at a time have my physical CD. The digital age is causing a serious decline in the morality of society.

Does it exist? Duh, of course. Where would you put it? Many 'quiet stage' bands run a 6 foot tall rack unit that has everything the band needs in it. It's not really an issue. Like everyone else, I never felt the need to 'share' my rig with another player. Sure, I can be part of the shared 6' rack, but not sharing my actual space on it. *Disclaimer - I did share my tuner with everyone.

That can be done. What he meant was.... The way that you hear your tone (such as going through a guitar amp, monitor, or computer) will make a difference in what you hear as a final product. Plugging into your computer to create sounds, and then plugging into a Marshall for gigs will result in a different tone. You'll never be transparent when going through a Marshall. Your Fender model will never sound like a Fender when going through a Marshall. ETC. There are also global settings that can be used to for each type of listening device. They will help minimize some of the 'bad' sounds. But, again, will change the overall tone of the device. It will not sound the same if you switch them. However, do not run your Pod while running EDIT. It will slow down the Pod and depending on your usage, could cause crashes. *********************** Wait, no, not what I meant. It IS what I meant, but I didn't do a good job of it. If you were, let's say, recording into a DAW, or playing live on stage ----- THEN, you would not want to have EDIT running. Obviously you need EDIT running with the Pod connected, lol. But it is an editor, not performance software.

WAIT.... I have to explain this to you. If you install the updates that are available, the 500 is light years ahead of where it was when it was initially released (in 2010). I think we are now up to 60 amps/preamps (plus the ones you can buy). I love buying used 500's from guys who didn't update, and therefore think that the 500x is so far more advanced that they needed to have it. I did tell one guy about how much he just wasted his money when all he needed to do was update. I didn't buy the unit, but it was pretty fun making him feel stupid. The 500 and 500x are the same units in terms of software. Just a few minor hardware tweaks. If you did not like the 500, you will not like the 500x. Nor will you like.... probably anything. If you did not like the 500, you are most likely dissatisfied with something in your life and you are projecting those feelings onto the units. >>>assuming you bought the 500 knowing what it was. I mean, we've have seen some people try to plug their 500 into a speaker cabinet and were not happy that there was no power section. I'd be unsatisfied too if I had expected a power amp, lol.

Purchasers, as well as people who have previously purchased it --- but find out that they could save $10, so they return their unit and repurchase it at the lower price.

Ok, so not a new player. Just a new player. Yeah, dude, all of the electric gizmos do this. And in the case of fx units, if you have any sort of distortion in the chain, it will amplify the hum.

Here's a new advertising slogan for the new 'boring' patches that will be included in new products since nobody likes the far out creations: Tired of being wet? Are you all washed up? Buy the Pod HD666. You've never heard a dry signal sound so dry before. We pride ourselves in how dry we can make our dryness. No effects. No tone coloring whatsoever. Just plain ordinary dry guitar sounds. And the commercial can have people getting splashed as a car drives by. Cut to a 50 year old 80's hair metal burnout in spandex and a spiked wig with his six foot tall electronics rack between his two stacks while making 'rock' poses. Fast forward to an HD666 sitting in the desert on a hot sunny day. Someone walk up to it, plugs in their guitar and starts to play. And the joke can be that there is no electricity out in the dunes, so what you would normally hear while playing without an amp is exactly what you hear coming out of the Pod since it isn't plugged in - a completely untouched sound.

I am going to take a wild guess and say that this is your first time playing?

I believe that the presets are not made to "work". They are designed to show off. I mean, when you buy an iPhone, do they show you how to dial? Or do they show how you can use GPS to locate sex right now within 100 yards of where you are right now. Face it, I would never even think to design some of those presets, and even if I did I wouldn't have a clue as to where to begin. BUT, because I saw that it can be done, I now know that it can be done if I want it done. Yes, you can totally overwrite every preset. I do not have a single original on my machine.

How you can use it for ambient patches can be answered by someone else. But as far as using the smart harmony.... Smart Harmony requires that you know basic theory (scales and keys). It is "smart". It doesn't do a simple +3 (half steps) above the note you are playing. You choose what key you are playing in, let's say G. Guitar players like G Major (which is also E minor) Then you choose the interval, let's choose +3rd. This isn't 3 half steps, it is a 3rd. In the key of G, it will play the 3rd above the note you are playing. So, a G note would sound like a B. Which is a minor third. A=C=minor B=D=major C=E=minor D=F#=major E=G=minor F#=A=minor So, sometimes a 3rd up is going to be 3 half steps and sometimes 4 half steps. It is smart, lol.

If it is the factory presets, INPUT settings. But anything you make or download: Input type. Volume pedals. Pan settings. FX loop. Those are the 4 main ones that I have found.

It is an electronic device, so I don't know what would be burning inside the box. Could it be the power cord (which is outside of the box)? Is it possible that a roach or a small child crawled up inside there and what you are smelling is their rotting corpse (not the device itself) being heated by the electrical flow? ***and I guess that if english isn't your native language, that you are outside of the the US. So, does your unit have the right power supply for your country?

Don't you just love the repeat questions. It's almost as if L6 doesn't offer a forum search feature. On the 500, it is an EXP pedal. It is not exclusively a volume pedal or wah pedal. The EXP pedal must be assigned to something. If you want to use it as a volume pedal, you must put a volume pedal in the chain, and then you must assign the EXP pedal to be the controller. It can control anything you want, but it must be assigned first.

I didn't put it on ideascale. So I have no one to blame but myself -- which means I should make the font bigger and bolder and cry more often about how you hate us. But jokes aside: I don't consider my EDIT request part of the unit in terms of updates even though there would need to be an update that would include drivers and such. I view EDIT as companion software that is separate from the paid unit. Everyone these days runs their software on the 3 platforms (Microsoft, Apple, Google), it's like adding "like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter" to every advertisement -- that is just how it needs done. Hell, my website runs something like 7 different versions to accommodate all of the various mobile options. Plus having two apps - although, we had issue with Apple so we are no longer available for them, lol.
-
Well, I think you answered the question when you said the word RANGE. I have seen the HD500 priced as low as $350 (regular price, not a sale price). But you need to know where to shop, lol. While others have paid more than the $500 that we always quote. A retailer dropping the price of a 6 year old unit from $499 to $449 is not a price drop. Some people are just too thick to understand.
-
I don't even think you can do that. You can do things like change patches. You can turn fx on and off within a patch. You can even control the exp pedal and looper. But I don't think you can actually change your settings. Of course, if, by change the settings, you mean something different than what I mean when I think of change the settings - well, then, I would need to ask if you read the owner's manual because that information is in there.

I wonder how many people have considered this: If the HD500 cost $500 (retail) when it first came out... And since people were so willing to buy it... What would they be willing to pay for the unit IF the current firmware was released into a new product instead of the current product. So, the HD500 would be running firmware 1.0 (or whatever it was initially shipped with). And then there would be like an HD600 or HD700 that is running 2.6.2. Because, really, if you look at what the initial release of the HD500 looked like -- the current firmware is easily a $1000-1500 unit when compared to the initial $500 firmware. And I am not talking about the bug fixes, I simply mean the features in it now that were not in it before. BUT THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE, THEY STILL WANT MORE.
-
They seem disenchanted because they are part of the "Bernie Sanders 'Everything is Free' cult". They want features that are only found in a $3000 unit put into a unit that cost them $300. AND they want it immediately. This idea that updates can be written, tested, and disseminated within hours of a request is ludicrous. Even if it could be done, L6 does not give little updates. They rewrite and distribute the entire unit. This isn't a virus scanner that adds everyday a few names to an already existing list. Nor is it Microsoft, where each month you can pick and choose which updates to install. L6 gives out the entire firmware. It would be like needing to download and install Windows 10 every time you wanted an update. Nobody wants to do that!

Nah, even though the term is a mistake, I instantly thought that he meant a new product. (I made an lollipop out of you and me by assuming what he meant, lol) However, I have said many times, I expect something like a HD505 or a Helix Lite to come out some day. But I anticipate that it will be awhile because the other product hasn't been fully saturated yet. They would really shoot themselves in the foot by releasing another $500 product before the $1500 one has gotten to all potential buyers. I don't care. I have a product that fully functions. What do I need a new one for. The other thing to consider is: If we end up with a $15 dollar an hour minimum wage, there is no reason to ever sell a $500 piece again - it is only a week's pay. Think about it, if you can afford $500 on $7, you can certainly afford the $1500 one at $15. LET THAT BE A LESSON TO ALL OF THE "GIMME GIMME'S" in the world.

Vote Trump. Build a wall. Repeal NAFTA. Quit being a cheapass. By American. American products, particularly those that are ALL-American, are very pricey. And they get more expensive with every piece of legislation the government passes because $7 becomes $15, but it is really $50 when you include health care. ($50 an hour to say "do you want fries with that"???) Ya know, the funny thing is: We talk about buying American because it gives some inference to superior quality. But, I doubt anyone has ever walked into a Ferrari dealer and then refused to buy one because it wasn't made in Boise. It isn't about being American made, it is about buying quality. And you don't get quality by buying the cheapest thing, or trying to wage a price war against dealers "I can get this cheaper online." When we start insisting that companies provide us products for next-to-nothing, you force them to cut corners -- like using Chinese parts for the American products which are made in India.

Or, it means that another shipment of the Helix is coming. Listen, the 500 (and X) is six year old technology. Sure, I used my last rig for over 20 years. And I have 30 year old guitars. But computerized stuff is different. Windows 10 is out. Google and Apple are replacing (or at least being an addition to) Microsoft. There is no reason to suspect that the 500 is going to be around much longer.

My $0.02 --- To be fair to the new guy: the manuals were written based on older firmware. There are things that are different. It can lead to confusion, especially when you are looking for a specific visual. But, I concur, this is basic stuff. If you can't get it from the manual, nothing we say is going to help. You may need a face-to-face with someone.
