  1. Well, I guess it depends on what performer/producer and in what venue/studio you are talking about. So, in general: Yes, tape echo was used live. Yes, tape echo was used in the signal chain before the amp. But, it was also used by the studio guys, and various ways to create reverb were used live as well. The thing to remember, is that there weren't as many "mixing" options in the early days like we have today. A lot of what you hear on record is what was played in the studio. They didn't even record tracks one at a time. Entire bands (and entire harmony vocal acts) recording everything at the same time, almost like it was a concert. Like was said above, you had one signal chain. Effect loops, and things like that, did not exist. **there are exceptions to every rule.
  2. Hey, I know guys that use full stacks for bedroom practice. So, it is totally possible that your Alto's just are not loud enough for you.
  3. I will also toss this out there... It is one thing to run stereo in the pa. But why would you need to hear yourself in stereo as well? I would think that a summed mono is more than adequate for monitoring yourself.
  4. why not buy a 2nd 44? Run one left and one right.
  5. If it exists, it was a preset from an older firmware. It is not found in any of the old bundles I have.
  6. shouldn't there be a file or link attached?
  7. The Tone King was doing a review https://youtu.be/u7KkN1_UuWs?t=12m35s and it got so annoying that he says "let me turn that volume down"
  8. Rim Ram Rom. All this nerd talk is putting me to sleep, purdy soon I am going to experience REM. Or is that because I've had too much Rum. Memory. Speed. Speed that frees up memory, Memory that allows more speed. Whichever. The point is --- You can still only use 8 effects at one time
  9. But, with those new footswitches came new problems... How many have experienced the "hum" that is in sync with the tempo flash?
  10. What would be the harm in making the trade, and then selling the unit that you don't want? Believe me, sometimes the best thing you can do when it comes to selling gear is to take a trade that you don't want. I don't know your gear, the area you live in (musically), or the venue that you are trying to sell stuff - but an HD500 will probably move more quickly than "just another used guitar".
  11. The X may have more memory, but the way the devices are programmed, you can still only use a max of 8 effects. So, to answer the question.... As long as you have kept up with the software updates, there is no real benefit to upgrading to the 500X from the 500. ~~~I know some guys that upgraded to the X and thought it was lightyears ahead. But then when they learned that 500 had software updates that made the two units virtually the same, they were kind of pissed that they spent money on the other unit. If you are a performer, you should have a unit as a backup. But, I'd like to correct you... you can absolutely just switch back and forth.
  12. The best tip is: DON'T Boosting your solos in anyway except tone or effect is only going to work in situation that you are currently in (your bedroom). If you gave yourself, at bedroom levels, a 10% volume boost for solos, it may sound great. But that is because your amp is pumping out 10 watts of power and needs that much of a volume difference to cut through. But if you were to someday play in a band, your amp would be putting out 50-100 watts. Your 10% increase is no longer needed, and it would be increased 5-10x as much as it was previously. **** I guess that a good way to describe what I am talking about is.... Plug in a set of headphones. Put them 3 feet away from your head. Play. Adjust the volume level that you need to hear it. You'll probably need to turn it up fairly loud. Now, without making any volume adjustments, put on your headphones. It will be too loud.
  13. You can do that. But, that raises the question... How will you hear your effects? Which, I don't know you or the music you play, but I prefer to hear what I am sounding like. Me hearing one sound on stage may make me play something that sounds really great to me, but sounds like mush because of the effects that everyone else is hearing. I mean, even the adjustment of the volume and tone knob on your guitar will have a different result on your end than it does their end.
  14. The real answer is: Do what sounds best for you in your situation. But the answer you are looking for is more like a suggested starting point, not the actual answer: Yes, if you are using a physical amp, you should not use virtual amp as well. Whether or not you want to use the pre-amp is up to you. Again, that is more like a "start here" than an absolute ~~~ only a Sith talks in absolutes. *Jimi Hendrix was told that things like fuzz and feedback were bad things. Could you imagine where music would be today if he had turned down his amps and played clean tones.
  15. Radio stations use $50,000 microphones. It makes a difference.
  16. Then, in that case, everything in one version is in the versions that come after it. I believe that there is a 'change log' on the website, so you can see what has been added in each before you install.
  17. LOL Doesn't the HD500 have an entire setlist designed for Bass/Acoustic/Vocals But then, if you use it for a microphone, you need to un-learn everything you have learned. Global EQ for a mic doesn't need those "guitar fizz" settings. Thump. Resonance. Every way you use it for guitar is different. It all changes when you use a microphone.
  18. The Pod does not "tone match". But your ears and your fingers do. Get to work.
  19. I don't know which updates I am talking about, but I know that if you look at the unit's history, there were some various patches/setlists that got added/removed with various updates. So, while I don't care about the factory patches, and therefore would just install the latest, it is possible that someone else would find some of them useful.
  20. Absolutely. But I can afford to not live on a diet of flies and worms. Therefore, I don't need to eat like they do in the Nimook province.
  21. It's not about weight. A folding unit with keyboard is sometimes just too much of a hassle to deal with. Tablets and phones are optimized for mobility. When I say tour bus, I don't mean a cargo van. I mean more like a home on wheels. So, yes, it has outlets.
  22. HOWEVER I don't want to use EDIT live. I need to use it pre-live. Last minute changes to the set list that needs patches changed. Hotel rooms.Tour buses. And I just don't want to carry a damn computer.
  23. There is also an OFF. The Global EQ can be turned off. Which, in my opinion, should be the place that most people should have it. Most of, if not all, of the time.
