  1. I've had my 150 since not long after they launched in the UK, and it's been great. I've had none of the Bluetooth issues that others seem to be frustrated by, and I even gigged it for a couple of months after my usual Engl amp started playing up. I wouldn't gig with it using the app though, I just programmed 4 sounds and used the footswitch. Not sure how robust it would be for long term live use, but it was toneful and loud enough to do the job when called upon. I personally think the tones are pretty good, very easy to get something nice, really intuitive interface - I generally use it when practicing and learning new stuff, and I can't think of much better. I can connect to my Mac, have Guitar Pro, or Spotify, and my guitar coming through at a nice balanced volume, and all sounding great. Not sure what more you could ask or expect at this price point...
  2. Nice try, but a bit obvious - must be disappointing that all the replies are courteous and grown up...
  3. Yep, that's how I do it too, and it is a fairly even split about which cab makes it into the final patch.
  4. I personally think the gap closed with the new firmware - in my previous patches I always seemed to end up with 3Sigma or Redwirez as my cab. Since rebuilding some patches with snapshots, it seems to be a complete mix up - I just pick whatever sounds best. The new 2204 amp I've not felt the need at all to look at external IRs, the stock cab model just make me smile every time I hit a chord. I sort of see where you're coming from with the placebo thing as well. It's sometimes difficult to listen with your ears, and not be swayed before you've even started by what some bloke on the internet says... And with that in mind, ignore everything I've just typed, download some free examples, play around, and listen for yourself ;-)
  5. Yes, same problem, I've had that a few times, but only when I also had a volume pedal before it in the chain. I deleted both blocks, reinstated the volume pedal to the last item in the chain before the output block, and reinstated the wah at the start of the chain and that seems to have sorted it out. Not ideal, but it's working for now. I'll keep,an eye on it for next few days and make sure it doesn't reappear with patch changes and powering on and off.
  6. Yes, similar approach here. We carry around our own PA system for almost all of our gigs, which is all based on Alto desk and powered speakers, and I use an Alto TS212a at home to sort out my patches. It seems to translate very well to a nice FOH sound, and a consistent stage sound.
  7. Argghhh - im typing this lying by a pool in Crete, 2000 miles from my Helix! Desperate to get my hands on this update, sounds simply inspired, but I'm sure a day or two more of sun, lazing around and drinking beer and rum won't hurt :-)
  8. Not sure it helps, but for what it's worth I renamed all of my 3S IRs in the same way, so I could be sure I reimported them into the right slots after any update... Bulk name changed done on a MacBook Pro, reimported to Helix with no problems. I think this might point to an OS issue, but I'm really an amateur with this stuff!

    Pad and Impedance

As an aside, I have a real 80's Rat, which to my mind I think of as something between a dirty distortion pedal and an aggressive fuzz. You guys have really nailed this one, sounds very, very authentic.

    Pad and Impedance

Great, thanks for the help... I'll play around later, and see what sounds best. I'll try the 1M ohm first, and then mess around with some patches with a fuzz and see how it affects it. Most of my patches have a volume or wah first in the chain, so I need to do some thinking... I must admit, the fuzz pedals have been the least pleasing so far, sounds like I know why now!

    Pad and Impedance

Perhaps another daft new user question! Is there a general rule for the setting guitar in pad and impedance? I've read the manual, and currently I'm just going with the default values and Auto setting, I'm really pleased with my patches, but wondered if I'm missing a trick or two? I use mostly low/mid output humbuckers (Bareknuckle Mules are a good benchmark) - as I say, everything sounds just great, but I'd really like to understand what others do with these settings :-)
  12. Yes, people's experiences seem quite mixed when it comes to what could loosely be grouped as "reliability". I've had very few issues with mine, and even the Bluetooth has been fine! I've even gigged with mine on a few occasions very successfully. I regard mine as more of a computing device than an amp though, and tend to troubleshoot in the same way as my laptop! But equally I can understand how frustrating it can be for those having problems :-(
  13. I had a similar thing some time ago, but it seems like you've already tried the thing that fixed mine?!? I started the app on my phone, and did a firmware update, switched off, restarted using the reboot procedure and it was fine since. Given you've already done that I'm not sure what else to suggest other than raising a support ticket...
  14. I picked up one of the new model Alto's (TS212A, I think), just because I'm relatively new to all of this, and I've jumped straight from a tube half stack back line to the Helix for gigging. Also because it was an inexpensive way to try a few things out, and lastly because our band PA is based around the previous generation Altos (112), and I figured that if I could make it sound right through my speaker, it would sound good through the PA without too much effort. I'm sure it isn't anywhere as good as some of the high end Matrix or Atomic stuff, but I've been really pleasantly surprised. Sounds great through the speaker and the PA. I must admit I struggled at first, and thought it was way too boomy, but harsh at the same time, and then I stumbled across a post here (Roscoe, I think) that mentioned high and low cuts, and this worked wonders. Must admit I'm really sold on the concept of modelling right now, and the Helix in particular - my tone has never been so good or consistent, for a cover band hack like myself it's a godsend for its versatility, and the whole user experience is nothing short of superb.
  15. Will probably sell a few, but only ones I was never really happy with before Helix anyway. I haven't used any pedals live since I got the Helix, it does everything I need, but there are a few I'll always keep hold of - an 80's Rat, a reissue Phase 45, my Budda Wah, and a few others - and I'm building a backup board with an Amplifire, which I've been chopping and changing around for a while trying to find the right set-up. Once that's settled there are a few which I would be happy to let go of - a Vox Boost, Suhr OD pedal, and I'm sure a few others lurking at the back of the drawer!
  16. I'd only tried the Redwirez and OH free ones and got some good results, but tbh as a relative newbie to modelling I felt I was shooting in the dark until I happened to stumble across the ones that worked for me. When you find the right ones though they both gave some remarkable results. About 3 weeks ago i bought a few 3 Sigma packs, just based on some of the discussions on here. Much simpler presentation, and i found it much easier to find the one i was looking for, plus they sound great. I got their AC30 pack and like them a lot. Highly recommended from me.
  17. So far no problems for me, but I also have a "mini" board with just an amplifire and a wah pedal on it as a back up. There's a tiny pub we play where I'll use this to save a bit of floor space, and feel a bit less paranoid about the crowd stamping all over my shiny Helix. It's still a pretty nice sounding rig...
  18. Hi Nippy Yes, mine turns solid green when charged. The base flashes every so often, but the transmitter is solid green.
  19. Thanks Dennis. That would make sense for how I experience the problem. I only seem to get it when connected to the Mac. Using it standalone I haven't experienced the problem. Maybe something just built into my normal workflow helped me to inadvertently partially avoid the affect? Thanks for the update...
  20. Great - it would be good to see what advice they offer. I think your hunch about DSP heavy patches makes sense - all of the ones I get issues on are definitely my most complex...
  21. Yep, similar issue. It happens for me when I've assigned two parameters on an amp to a footswitch, gain and volume in my case. By pressing the foot switch it raises the gain, and backs the volume off a touch, and occasionally going from the higher gain back to the lower gain, the volume reverts to zero. By going to another patch and back again it sorts itself out. and it doesn't happen frequently, which is odd?
  22. I did my first Hekix powered gig tonight, and used my new G10. Both worked flawlessly, very easy to use the G10... Just kept forgetting I wasn't tethered! Our bass player was so impressed he's getting a G10 tomorrow. Lots in stock in various places in the uk. Mine came from Andertons and last time I checked they had 10+ in stock.
  23. Hi Rickster Yes, I'd checked all that, and the patches all worked fine through my speaker. I've just had a bit of inspiration and applied the PC fix - I seem to have resolved it with a reboot! Doh! Should have thought to do the obvious thing an hour ago... Cheers for the response though, Gary
  24. Hi All Plugged my headphones into the unit for the first time tonight, and came across a weird behaviour that I couldn't resolve :-( Any patch that has something going on in Path 2 doesn't come through at all? Just to try and prove the problem I put a quick patch together with an amp on path 1 and another on Path 2, and only the Path 1 was heard - when i routed the output of path 1 to 2, i lost all sound. I've tried every menu path I can find, but nothing seemed to be obvious. Any ideas, or is this a bug report thing? I'm fairly new to the Helix, so I'm sure I am missing something really dumb! As a aside, I took the unit to rehearsal last night. In a word, awesome! And both paths worked through the mixer and my monitor - it really sounded fantastic, and it will be gigging tomorrow night! Cheers, Gary
  25. Perfect - it's command centre, rather than control panel, but now sorted :-) Thank you!
