  1. Did you buy the unit new? If so, why not simply get it replaced under warranty? If you bought it second hand, then the primary issue you have is with the person who sold it to you, not L6. You don't have any basis on which to claim that these devices are unfit for purpose and muttering darkly about trading standards. That's just counter-productive.
  2. Another thing to watch out for is your CHANNEL VOLUME. This is often best set at around 45% on high gain models or it will cause effects blocks placed after the amp to clip.
  3. What hurganico said, again, but... Open gate: when the mouse is loud enough, it gets let in. Close gate: when the mouse is quiet enough, it gets zapped out of existence.
  4. [Edits for clarity in square brackets:] Where is the Hard Gate in your chain? It should be first. Setting the Open threshold is easy enough. It should ignore slight and inadvertent sounds and open only when you play intentionally. Just touch the strings lightly with your fingertips to make 'unintentional' noise. Turn the Open setting [sensitivity] up until this gets through to the signal chain. Now, turn the Open setting [sensitivity] *down* incrementally until you find the cutoff point where unintentional noise (including buzz and hum) do not cause the Open gate to open. That's the sweet spot. [Edit:] Likely you've already seen it, but just in case, there's a Line 6 tutorial for the Crazy Train tone here. [Edit:] hurghanico is right: MeAmBobbo's explanation is excellent - it's what I had in mind.
  5. What Hurghanico and Joel Brown said. There are some tips on dialling in the Mesa / Treadplate model here which may help. Note the cab choice.

    HD500 or HD500X

    That's what I decided too.

    Pod vs Helix

It could have been worse :)

    Pod vs Helix

Eh, don't rise to the bait. PG's just winding you up.
  9. That was an education, Hurghanico :)
  10. That's the copper oxidising in the 'nickel silver' fretwire (no silver but ~80% copper). Sounds like you live by the sea... Peace, btw.
  11. A half-truth if there ever was. It was laminated green cheese.
  12. Not wishing to enter this argument only to find out whether or not what I suggested above actually fixed the problem. I had something similar to you when I first got my HD and it turned out that I was missing that in EDIT the patch must be highlighted in the User list at the left before it can be saved. So my 'saves' weren't always saving and that gave me a headache that sounds oddly like yours.
  13. I'm not sure how much of the snark is aimed at me, but since it keeps on coming, let me make something clear. This discussion went off the rails when Arislaf accused Rob Chapman of producing a fraudulent demo for personal financial gain (and yes, that is the correct definition of 'fraudulent'). That is why I pointed out to Arislaf that he had taken his initial logical fallacy of argument from assertion into fully unacceptable territory. With this in mind, if some of the snark is directed at me, perhaps it is unwarranted in this case.
  14. Just try one thing. Whenever you make a change to a patch in Edit, making sure you have the patch highlighted, click SEND > SELECTED to save. THEN Switch to another patch. Then switch back. Does that fix it?
  15. I'm confused. Now you say: >Wait, I actually don't have that problem  I can hear the changes as I tweak any patch. ?
  16. Sounds like clipping of some sort, so a quick checklist: Does the problem occur with more than one guitar? Which amp model are you using for your clean patch and what pre and master volume settings do you have for it? What is your CHANNEL VOL setting? What fx blocks do you have *after* the amp?
  17. BTW, the phrase "leave it at that" does not mean 'leave the thread', it only means 'stop pushing the logical fallacy as it has now become embarrassing'. This is not bullying. It is simply a polite suggestion.
  18. Okay, you don't understand what a logical fallacy is. Never mind.
  19. As I did point out earlier, your belief is not supported by any evidence. You responded by making the discussion about Chapman's supposed dishonesty, which compounded your logical error. If I were you, I would leave it at that.
  20. "I started my main line with an I BELIEVE. in case you didn't see that." Actually, Arislaf, you started with a blank link claiming (but failing) to show that the tonewood *myth* is 'busted' (10:43am today 08/12). I can't work out how to link to previous comments using this software.
