  1. You are disrupting the thread with pertinent facts. It doesn't fit with the narrative ;)
  2. I have a JTV89F and the Helix and it is a fantastic combination. Already gigged with it and had nothing but positive comments from the band and audience. The key settings for Variax are in the Input Block. Page 2 lists the settings that you can force the Helix to remember and Page 3 lets you set your tunings. Another thing to remember is that if you update the firmware of the Helix and reset the globals it will seem that all your Variax settings are lost when you import your patches back. They aren't though. All you need to do is edit one patch back to "per preset" on Page 2 and all will be restored. Have fun.
  3. Totally agree with this. I use a JTV89F with the Helix. All talk of staying within one patch for a song completely undermines the capabilities of the guitar. I need to go from a 12 string acoustic guitar with all strings retuned to a 7th fret position to a distorted electric in normal tuning. The only way to do that is with a preset change. No amount of paths within one patch can currently accomplish that.
  4. Thanks for that. It is much appreciated. I do use the Helix live. I am in a classic rock covers band and will be happily using it tonight for the first time at a gig. Because of the material I play, and the use of a JTV89F, switching presets is the only way to go for me and so the lag when switching patches is inconvenient. That being said, it sounds great and I am happy to have it. Nothing is perfect and so I have modified the timing of the patch changes to get the best out of it that I can. Any improvement in the delay time would be a help though :)
  5. Thank you for your totally unexpected contribution................................................
  6. Are there any plans to do something about these issues because I know I'm not the only one dealing with them? For $1500 this should be able to cover all possibilities!! I think it is safe to take phil_m response as a "no" :(
  7. That thought did cross my mind too.
  8. Thank you for your condescending reply referencing the lack of system exclusive support, something that you seem to have introduced as the be all and end all of the lack of reference material from Line6. The original poster made a perfectly valid point that you seem happy to rubbish. I could tell you what I think of your claim that what 90% of all guitarists need to know about the operation of the Helix is available from the cheat sheet but I would hope that even you might be able to work it out. I personally have learned more from user videos and this forum about some of the more advanced uses of the unit than I have from the cheat sheet. Thanks for your kind attention
  9. Yes seriously, And I was referring to the general point made by the original poster, not the single line referencing lack of support for a basic midi command.
  10. With all due respect, for a product costing this much with so many features and parameters, that is a pathetic view for the manufacturer to take.
  11. To duncann I find Logarithmic the more useful setting but positioning the volume pedal at the end of the blocks (last thing before the output) gets the pedal to work as I would expect a volume pedal to work.
  12. I know but I had a few spare channels anyway and now I can concentrate on getting the Helix set up as I want it so it's better than the alternative.
  13. Don't worry. I'd take one faulty channel over a faulty Helix any day :D I have so many things I want to do with it but can't stop playing it at the moment
  14. For info of all and especially Line6 I can happily report that the bug wasn't actually a bug at all. I had tried different cables and guitars but a member, HonestOpinion, suggested it could be the speakers. It wasn't actually the speakers but it led to me finding a faulty channel on my mixing desk so the problem wasn't with the Helix at all. For what it's worth from what I have heard of the unit so far it is very impressive. It has made me sound like a better player overnight which can only be good :) Thanks for the replies but I thought I should absolve Line6 of any blame (and I must say that I haven't been influenced by Line6 in case anyone was wondering). It was just me failing to check all other possibilities first.
  15. To HonestOpinion Success!!! I tried it through a guitar amp and there was no problem. Went back to the desk and speakers and the problem resurfaced. Tried a different channel on the desk with the same settings and everything was fine so it was a faulty channel on the desk. Many thanks for your suggestion. I had tried different cables and guitars but never thought of checking the desk. So problem solved and I can go back to enjoying the Helix. With (or without) a variax guitar this is a very impressive unit. I sound like a better player overnight.
  16. To HonestOpinion The Helix is going through a mixing desk and powered speakers but nothing else in the desk is affected so I don't think it can be the speakers. I'll try it through a guitar amp tomorrow though just to be sure. Thanks
  17. To Peter Hamm There are no external expression pedals attached to the Helix
  18. Hello fido083 Thanks for your response but I have the latest firmware updated today. The problem isn't when I change patches. I can be playing the same patch from switching the unit on and after a few minutes the volume will just decrease with out me touching anything. It is reasonably consistent the way the fault happens everytime I start to use the Helix. Loud for a few minutes then it goes quieter.
  19. Hi all Just received my Helix :) It is awesome in every way except one :( After a few minutes of playing, regardless of which patch, the output volume just decreases by itself. Sorry if this has been covered before but does anyone know what causes it and, more importantly, if it can be fixed? Thanks to all who take the trouble to help and inform
  20. Hi all. Sorry if this has been covered before but I searched for "volume problems" and got no results. Just got a Helix (finally) and I love it. THere is just one problem I have found so far but it is serious. After a few minutes of playing the overall volume output diminishes quite substantially and remains at the lower volume. It doesn't seem to matter what patch I am on. I have tried factory presets and some I made myself to see if that was the problem. I have tried it with a variax connection and through a normal jack cable. It happened with the original 1.2 firmware that it came with and both of the updates I have installed, up to and including 1.04.3 which I have installed today. Has anyone experienced this and is there any way to resolve it?
