  1. Same here. On my MacBook Pro, the connection drops somewhat randomly. Sometimes in a minute or 2. Sometimes after 10 minutes. Sometimes when I switch to a different app. Sometimes when I am exclusively in HX Edit. I've tried turning on and off various things such as energy saver and bluetooth on the Mac, but nothing helps. I tried different USB cables and different ports, all with the same results. So today, I installed HX Edit on my wife's MacBook Air, which is actually ~2 years older than my MacBook Pro (both on High Sierra). Not 1 single dropout, except for when the MacBook Air went into sleep mode. Even then, the reconnection was very fast. In fact, I even turned the energy saver off at 1 point and left the Helix and HX Edit running for over an hour. When I returned the Helix and HX Edit were still connected. The good news for me is that it does not appear to be an issue with the Helix hardware (albeit, it could be some incompatibility, but I know it can work as designed). If anyone else has done some troubleshooting and reached the bottom of this, please share!
  2. I appreciate this...but I've tried a number of different settings, and will just use the Focusrite if/when I want to play Rocksmith. It is not worth any more time or effort.
  3. So how did you set up? Did you use the Rocksmith cable or just using USB?
  4. I believe that the Scarlett does support both...but Rocksmith only accepts 48000 anyhow. It is the 24/16 bit issue that might be causing the problem here.
  5. Are you on PC or Mac? If on Mac, did you create an aggregate device? I did try to use the Mic setting, but did not have any signal reading. I can try that again.
  6. Excellent...to quote Dumb & Dummer: "so you are saying there is a chance!" You mention using Rocksmith to the Mic input. Are you using the Rocksmith cable or just USB to the computer? Any other setup/connectivity?
  7. I have successfully used Rocksmith with a Focusrite 2i2 interface from my MacBook. To do so, I created an aggregate audio device on my Mac, named it "Rocksmith USB Guitar Adapter", and simply used the Focusrite 2i2 instead of the Rocksmith Real Tone cable. There were no other settings or hacks, and it worked flawlessly. Now I have a Helix LT and I have been trying to use it in the same manner. My initial thought and hope was to simply replace the Focusrite 2i2 interface with the Helix LT interface within my aggregate device setup. I then created a Helix patch with no amps or effects, with the output from the Helix to the USB port. I tried using all of the Helix USB output options (1/2, 3/4, and 5/6). However, when using Rocksmith I only get static/noise. Has anyone had any success in using this type of setup?
  8. Fantastic explanation! I've read about the Altos being boomy if used on the floor, which is how I would use them. This gives me reason to expand my thinking up to the mid-level.
  9. I fixed the problem! And I have no idea why this was a problem in the 1st place! All along I checked the inputs, played around with all of the combinations between USB1 and USB8 for both in and out. For the heck of it I thought I'd try changing over to 44100 on SGear, and then make the change on the Helix just to see if that solved it. BUT...here's the weird thing. When I clicked on the drop down in SGear, 48000 was the only option. But the second I released my mouse, I had sound! It is almost as if it was not "set", even though it was displaying on the screen and the 1 and only option. To assure all was OK, I exited SGear and reopened the program. I rec'd a popup indicating my last interface was not selected, even though I had not made any changes between closing and reopening. So I went back to the SGear preferences and "selected" the Helix interface, again even though it was shown as selected already and was the only option anyhow. I then exited and reopened SGear, and no warning message. So, it appears there was some sort of bug whereby the preference screen displayed the Helix/48000 settings, but they were not really "active". Maybe it is because I had previously had the Focusrite 2i2 setup, and somehow the preferences were not "sticking". Anyhow, thank you for all of the help. While the input here did not directly solve the issue, it helped to be sure I was on the right track.
  10. Is there that significant a difference? And I am a car guy that happens to have a Mercedes, so I can relate.
  11. No luck. The sample rate is 48k in both Helix and SGear. And as mentioned, I can get this working via plug in within Garageband. Now I am just obsessed! As you indicated, I am on a Mac, which I should have stated initially (other than just saying Garageband).
  12. As I am sure many here are aware, Alto has updated its popular TS2 series to the TS3 series. While they had a TS208, there was little information around on that size, with most attention on the TS210 and TS212. The TS308 is being stocked by US-based retailers, and I am looking to move to a new speaker solution. I bought a Helix LT last week, and am currently using headphones and a THR10 (via aux) for output. I am only a home user, with zero plans to subject the good people of my community to my playing. Has anyone used the TS308 yet? What are your thoughts relative to the TS310/TS210? It is only slightly less costly, so that is not my concern at all. I do appreciate the smaller footprint. My plan is to get 2 of whatever I decide, so as they say, size matters. My other thoughts are on the Alto TX line (TX208, TX210, or older TX8, TX10) o studio monitors (JBL LSR305, Yamaha HS5, Adam T5V). I don't know that the extra cost of the JBL EON610 or Yamaha DBR10 would bring me much value over the Altos. Side note: If I go with PA type speakers, I would keep them on the floor as wedges. If studio monitors, I would buy stands. Thanks, John
  13. Brand new Helix LT owner, and trying to get a feel for its capabilities, including routing. I have been using S-Gear via a Focusrite 2i2 into my MacBook for real-time playing. I do not record at all. So I would just open up SGear standalone and play, with output to either my headphones or THR10 (attached to 2i2 via the THR10 aux input). Last week I bought a Helix LT (yes, I like toys!) and I was hoping to be able to use just the Helix as opposed to swapping cables when I want to use SGear. SGear is so good that I would not want to abandon it. I've not been able to get SGear standalone to work using the Helix as an interface. SGear standalone does not show as receiving the signal from the Helix. I messed with all of the USB inputs/outputs trying different combinations. I have been successful in using SGear as a plugin via Garageband using the Helix as the interface, using USB 3/4 as input, and 5/6 as output. I created an "empty" patch that takes guitar in on path A and outputs it to USB 3/4, then path B takes input from USB 5/6 and outputs to multi. Am I missing something? Or is it not possible to use SGear standalone in the way I used it in the past with the Focusrite 2i2? Thanks in advance, John
  14. I had the same issue...updated HX Edit and it was solved! It was confusing at 1st because HX Edit properly indicated that the connected Helix was on v2.60.
  15. I cannot imagine it could be any better...that is simply astounding
  16. Thanks for the additional feedback. I did review/confirm all of the things you had suggested in the past, to no avail. I do have an Alto TS210 on the way, it should be here on Monday. And I also tried out the Helix Native software, which is incredibly impressive. I would prefer it as a stand-alone app, which I understand may be coming. But using Helix Native really has me thinking about a Helix LT sooner-than-later. Side note - I get the same "distortion" via Helix Native.
  17. It is possible you misread my posts. I do not currently have a Helix. I have a Focusrite 2i2 now, so the 1/4" cabling is from the 2i2 to my JBL 305 speakers. If I eventually get a Helix, I'd have to change the cables.
  18. I've been experimenting on this for hours upon hours. I actually just used an SPL meter, and admittedly very unscientifically, measured that I can only get to 80-82db before the distortion when playing guitar. Playing music via iTunes, Youtube, etc. sounds great and LOUD. I just measured from the same seating position at 98db and they sounded crystal clear. It was WAY louder than I'd ever need. I was thinking it could be residual vibration from the guitar/fret buzz. But when using headphones, everything sound greats. I guess the only thing I haven't tried is the cables from the 2i2 to the speakers. I am using 1/4" balanced TRS cable. I did try different power outlets which I know to be on different circuits. Could it be cabling??????
  19. Thanks to both of you...confirmed my expectation...the TS210/212 WILL work...WILL give me greater volume and less chance of clipping/distortion...but I would lose stereo playback of streaming music unless I get 2 of them. Totally what I expected. Because my end-game is to get the Helix, it may be the best option for me as opposed to dealing with studio monitors or a traditional amp.
  20. Sorry if this has been covered before. I did a search and see that there is plenty of love for the Alto TS210 and TS212, but I have not seen this particular question. For background, my current setup is: Guitar --> Focusrite 2i2 ---> Macbook (Bias FX and S-Gear) ---> Focusrite 2i2 ---> JBL LSR305 studio monitors. The sound quality, particularly from S-Gear, is very good at low volume. I would place it just above TV viewing level and just below "honey, can you turn down the TV it is too loud" level before I get a bunch of distortion/buzzing. I really enjoy my setup as I often use the laptop for background music, YouTube videos, or other learning services while I am playing, and everything outputs to the JBL monitors. And I am sure I will love eventually moving to the Helix LT as a substitute for the 2i2 and laptop. I see many posts here indicating that 5" (and even 8") studio monitors will have their limits. So would a good intermediate step, until I get the Helix, be to get either a TS210 or TS212? Starting with 1, but maybe adding a 2nd in the future? I am assuming they would be a heck of a lot more tolerant and not get overdriven as easily as the JBLs. Will the Alto sound good streaming background music? Even a single one, losing out on stereo imaging? I should add that I am purely a basement player with no plans to perform anytime soon. Thanks in advance, John
