  1. I would MUCH rather see the effort made to further improve the existing pitch shifting for alt tunings and for 12 string. It's good but far from great.
  2. It absolutely has to have an ultra high impedance preamp. Piezos require it. Adding another will be useless. The important thing is that there is enough headroom all the way through the signal chain - A/D, Modeling, D/A. Any clipping will cause evil artifacts.
  3. Other option is to use an analog interface designed for a conventional electric guitar.
  4. Something is faulty. You are doing everything right. It's either the USB interface, the Cable, or the JTV itself. Do you have a pod? If the JTV talks to the pod, then it's probably the USB interface.
  5. I would be afraid that slight pitch shifting to retune the out of tune strings would create problems rather than solve them. This is done by resampling and it probably doesn't have infinite resolution.
  6. That kind of noise should not happen with the XPS. Sounds like a bad cable.
  7. You may be able to get rid of the hum if you play with where everything is plugged into AC power. You want everything including your amp plugged into the same power strip. I have a noise problem when I plug my X3Live into my PC via USB because of the ground loop between my PC and my Amp. It's quiet when I unplug my USB cable so I know what is causing it but It's not convenient for me to plug my amp and X3Live into the same power as my PC. It would be nice to have a ground isolated interface. (Optical works nice)
  8. Flashing red means your Variax isn't connected and talking to the interface.
  9. I use 2500 mAH NIMH cells in my Variax 500. I have two sets and I keep them charged. The old Variax probably gets 6 - 8 hours on a charge with these batteries.
  10. Use the battery! That eliminates ground loops that cause noise. Battery will be the quietest way to run.
  11. I think you may have to take one out and measure. They are surely a standard metric screw. I agree with you that these screws are worth replacing. I may do it myself eventually.
  12. That's what I meant. I do care what my guitar looks and feels like but not Acoustic vs Electric look. I think banjo or sitar sounds coming out of a guitar that looks like an electric is interesting.
  13. I sure don't care what my guitar looks like. I don't care what a band's guitars look like when I watch them live. I pay attention but I don't care.
  14. One big difference is that the Acoustic 700 plays and feels like an acoustic. But I like the flexibility you get with the JTV.
  15. I think setup is a personal thing. Playing style dictates the setup. My JTV-69S was set up almost to my liking from Sweetwater. I had to raise the LowE and A string slightly at the saddle and I had to shorten the speaking length of the Low E to get the intonation spot on. This is less than I have had to do on most guitars I have acquired. Make sure your fretboard has a little relief between the first and last fret. If it doesn't it at least needs a trus rod adjustment. Make sure you do not have any high frets using a straight edge. If you do, then it needs work and if it's new I would send it back. If the fretboard checks out and you have some buzz, raise the saddle on the strings that buzz until they don't. I think everyone should learn how to do a basic setup. There are some great books out there. The one I have is "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great" by Dan Erlewine. This is a great book that goes through setting up your guitar in great detail with lots of very good pictures.
  16. I have always noticed more "string squeak" when I move my fretting hand with Variax guitars. I had that big time on my 500 and switching to Elixir Strings helped a lot. I will try that on my JTV69 shortly. I am still playing the original strings which I like the feel of but they are not coated.
  17. I like mine too. It plays much more like an acoustic and it sounds great. It's too bad that Line 6 doesn't put more effort into guitars. Maybe the market just isn't there.
  18. Try the 1/4 inch plug while powered through the VDI. If that works then it's probably your battery connection between the battery and the main board. Should not be too hard to fix. The main board is healthy if your 700 plays through the VDI.
  19. My guess is that for some reason with 2.0 the new feature to blend in the mags is not being turned off when you are getting "Ghost Notes" Since it is turned off with older FW, it can be solved by FW too. It's probably not a hardware problem.
  20. You may be getting a static discharge to the piezo in the bridge. I have noticed that problem also if I contact the bridge with my hand. Piezos pick up string vibration mechanically.
  21. I held my breath when I online ordered my 69S but it's absolutely perfect. No defects and the neck is just how I like it and the setup was almost spot on. I do not understand how a well known retailer can let bad stuff out the door like that.
  22. There are lots of settings to compare - type of output is important make sure it's the same. You will probably find something not set the same on your new unit.
