  1. Great! I am glad you are getting a positive response. This is how we will get improvments for our JTV's!
  2. They did not change the number of models - they just changes what some of them were. Who said anything about running out of memory???? The interface can only address the number of models that they support now with the model knob and 5 way switch.
  3. I think it's three more than many Americans. :)
  4. I installed Planet Waves Locking Tuners on my Variax 500 with no need to modify the holes. (the 3 and 3 set) Best change I made to that guitar!
  5. No that isn't possible but you may have a cable that just doesn't always make a good connection. It wasn't getting power.
  6. Remember - if they were to add more models we have no way of selecting them. The model selector and 5 way are programmed to select the models. You would have to invent a way to download the ones you want and leave some out. The FW may not be written to support that. The model selection has been the same since the first Variax electric. My advice is that if you like 1.9 better than 2.0 then use 1.9 and be done with it!
  7. The model selector hardware also limits how many models we can select. WB only changes model parameters not models.
  8. I saw one procedure that said to have in Mag pickup mode but I am not sure it matters as long as it's powered up with the battery or through the VDI.
  9. My JTV came with 2.0 installed but Sweetwater was nice enough to upgrade it. That eliminated the risk for me to have to send it back if the upgrade failed. I would strongly recommend that anyone purchasing a new JTV get it upgraded as part of the purchase agreement. We have seen some problems with the upgrade related in this forum. It's hard to tell what percentage of the upgrades had problems because we do not have that data. There are many variables when doing this kind of upgrade. (PC, interface, cables, SW)
  10. You guys have no idea how complex these models are or how many man hours went into the Variax design. They made many very complex measurements to capture the data needed to model these guitars. Good luck trying to replicate that! Workbench gives you lots of options to tweak the models. Use them! It's ok to suggest new models but don't expect that to happen either.
  11. I think the 300 went too far on the cheap side. The 600 was nice but not that much better than my 500.
  12. I own a 500, 700 Acoustic, and now a JTV69-S. The 500 was great for it's time and so was the 700 Acoustic. I really liked the 700 but I never could convince myself to buy one. I did some upgrades on my 500 instead: Locking Tuners (Planet Waves) an Ervana nut, and Ghost Piezo saddles. It still plays great and stays in tune better than any of my other guitars. I just recently purchased the JTV and I am still getting used to it. The modeling is better for sure. Not crazy about the Trem though. I really don't use a Trem. I don't find the JTV at all ugly - and I did not find the other earlier Variax models ugly either. I like having pickups even if I don't end up using them much. I am not sure why there are so many replies that Hate the look of some of these guitars. I'm quite happy with mine.
  13. I would think that the problem with failed downloads could be the USB interface itself. I would recommend that the JTV not be plugged into your amp when using the interface to download flash FW. That eliminates a ground loop with your PC which can make the USB interface less reliable. I would also use a short USB cable and go into the back interface on your PC - one that goes to the mother board.
  14. I guess the HD modeling is pretty convincing if we can't tell the real strat from the electronic copy! I thought both sounded good though.
  15. It's all low voltage so you are safe working on it. It's a crap shoot whether you can easily diagnose the problem though. It could be simple but these things are complex inside.
  16. That is my understanding too. My strat sounds in 2 and 4 have both pickups on. I have not connected to WB and I don't plan to for the near future. (Until it's fixed)
  17. It only needs the work around if you have used Workbench. It's fine after the download only.
  18. Should be easy of the replacements are the same size. There are wiring diagrams on this forum.
  19. Never had one but I did like the looks of the 700.
