  1. That's why I refrain from posting demo's online of my gear. I'm afraid I'd be doing a disservice to the product. Maybe someday, when I'm an expert, but I don't feel like there is some void going unfulfilled.
  2. I was honestly expecting to be disappointed somewhat. I knew it was not going to get close enough to my Mark IV tone. I am extremely pleased I was wrong. Honestly, there are a lot of bad demo's of the Helix on the internet. Whether it's the preset, their setup or just how they recorded. Ben Vesco's are some of the best I heard though, before getting the Helix. And they still are! LOL
  3. Great info throughout this post for a noob. Thanks all!
  4. Stunned that this Helix models my Mesa Mark IV perfectly. I've had the Mesa since '92 and assumed I wouldn't have that tone, but just lots of new stuff to play with. I was wrong. The Mesa Mark IV is my tone. I have a Mark V and a Mark 5:25, which are both great, but the Mark IV options across all channels are balanced perfectly for me and I love it and would never have anything else for my main. I got the Helix to get back into using FX but without pedals, for recording, and also just to see if it inspired creativity (which it has). I am dipping my toe in slowly so I don't get overwhelmed but I was so relieved when I stumbled onto this with the 'Cali IV Rhythm 1, 2, & Lead'. The FX they have on the preset need work, or deleted, but the core amp is PERFECT! My Mesa Amps https://imgur.com/a/YdDcOOU And the drum set to the right... https://imgur.com/a/ROGILnN
  5. LOL! I'm thinking your advice was solid, 'logicbdj'.
  6. These are all pretty much classic rock and blues but I have over 100 drum/bass tracks uploaded to my ad-free site. Read the 'WTF?' tab to understand how to use them and other info. https://lonepoorboy.com/
  7. Being a tube amp guy who used few effects I impulsively stepped into this world, ordering a Helix first then, before the Helix even arrived, I went bananas and got a Variax and Powercab Plus as well. It was at that point I got real nervous about whether I would like the sound at all; would I find it too overwhelming; or just not enjoyable to use. Well so far it has gone swimmingly. I have been wading in slowly as to not get lost and frustrated. Updated each device first. Learned some things, like the software will all play better together if I install everything to my C drive, and have just been trying presets with the Powercab in 'Flat' mode. I am blown away by the quality of the sound and am not left wanting to play my tube amps(Boogie Mark IV, Mark V, Mark 5-25, Marshall DSL 1, Blues Junior) so far. I've found the Variax is a blast on it's own. I got it 'scratch and dent' from Sweetwater for $840 with just a barely noticeable cosmetic flaw on the fretboard, and the Power cab 112 Plus used off Guitar Center for $550. I was really pleased to find the Variax Workshop still worked with the Variax only plugged into the Helix, with the Helix via USB to PC.

  9. I went for it and they all worked great together. This has me really excited about the potential of working all three pieces together. -JTV-69 -Helix -PC112+
  10. I just bought a used Powercab 112+ so I was wondering if there were a few tests I could run on it to test the horn vs. the woofer out? I know these aren't the right terms with this, but you know what I mean. Anything else to test out?
  11. Can you have all three of these plugged into your PC via USB at the same time, with all 3 apps open and functioning? JTV-69 - Workshop Helix - HX Edit Powercab 112+ - Powercab Edit
  12. I gotta say I am not a fan of flangers and it is massively overused at the start of that Boss video. That sounds horrible to me. And good job to 'Honest Opinion' for nailing the fix.
  13. THIS! THANK-YOU! I was trying the updater for my new Helix last night with no success, and just did the HX Edit path and it is all now working! Updating Helix firmware now!
  14. It did make sense, and thanks. "use to play with your Helix live, via a PC?" Sorry, I didn't mean 'live in person' but live interaction with your Helix unit, where you can load and save to and fro, without a DAW open. All my questions have been answered. Thank you!
  15. If so, is HX Edit what you use to play with your Helix live, via a PC?
  16. Never sends your guitar signal/music... Only used for updates and interface with the Workbench software.
  17. Nice! You got a 'Stomp' AND a 'Katana'! Enjoy! And I agree with 'VirtualGuitars'. Your 'Helix' should sell quick.
  18. Can you easily use a Powercab Plus with a Tube head, or any head with FX send, to use it like a cab/poweramp to use the speaker models on the PC+, by running the head's FX send into the PC+ Input 1 or 2 via a 1/4" cable? I'm not expecting it to sound awesome; I just want to know if it would work.
  19. IT'S VERY MUCH ALIVE TO ME! I just got a great deal on a dent and scratch Lake Placid Blue JTV-69 from Sweetwater. It has a very minor discoloration between the zero and first fret. Very minor. I'm already loving this thing. One of my most exciting guitar purchases in a long time.
  20. Or would an XLR work for connecting the Helix to the Powercab. Or is there a loss of function?
  21. Thanks for this experience-based write-up Thaw, and to Dunedin Dragon for helpful comments here and on other posts as well. As a brand new Helix/Variax/Powercab Plus user I am absorbing as much as I can before diving in.
