Helix Floor used with Acoustic amp or studio monitors?
Lone_Poor_Boy replied to ThisIsFunk's topic in Helix
I really wouldn't want anything bigger on my desktop. Well... maybe I would, but these do great for me. ;) For reference, that is a 30" monitor. I think it makes them look smaller in the pic. The little foam angle thingys I have the speakers on were a nice little addition. -
Helix Floor used with Acoustic amp or studio monitors?

My setup is in a full size bedroom and I love my 5" JBL LSR 305's. I'm not saying JBL is the one for you, just that my 5" monitors sound great and I wouldn't need anything bigger. NOTE: I do have them in use with a JBL LSR 310S sub and Steinberg UR44 Audio Interface. And I would start with one piece of gear first and that would be the Helix(LT). Use that with your amps first. Get a feel for the Helix. You'll gain insight into what you like and what you don't before you make the sound system purchase, in case the amps do not work for you. I think the acoustic amp, run in the way rd2rk stated, will be enough for your situation for now. -
Help a young musician get his speaker for helix
Lone_Poor_Boy replied to Jazzybeard's topic in Helix
Well it's not like a lot of thought went into it. I was trying to find an unused name for an extra email account and I was thinking of George Thorogood's 'Homesick Boy' and got the lyrics wrong. :) You gotta admit, GAS can leave you poor, and possibly even alone. -

I recommend looking into the Line 6 Powercab and running it in FRFR mode. Guitar Center has some good prices on used, and they have a great return policy if you don't like it. 30 days; just drop it off at a Guitar Center. I take it back. The prices for used on Guitar Center are close to the same as new on Sweetwater. That's really odd, based on my experience with GC. I got my 112 plus used through them in excellent condition for $200 less than new just 4 months back. I have one and absolutely love it. So smooth/real. And this from an owner of many tube amps including Mesa, Marshall and Fender. But there are many options to consider so take in all the advice and ponder. I personally would not go with integrating the Helix into a regular guitar amp. Added cables, complexity, clunkiness. -
LMAO, geeze. I just needed to refresh. I assumed it would have automatically shown the latest version. Thanks.

The downloads only list 2.90 and I believe I've read of a 2.91 that came out quickly due to issues with 2.90.

JTV-69 Neck Specifications?
Lone_Poor_Boy replied to Lone_Poor_Boy's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Agreed on all counts. I used to do setups on my guitars myself until I had it done by someone who knew what they were doing. :) Now that person has moved on after 20 years so I thought I might play a little but will likely try a new Luthier as I need one overall anyway. -
Jtv-69 Neck Issues - Fixed?
Lone_Poor_Boy replied to gene1714's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Quite an old post but I wanted to ask you 'SNHIRSCH', as your posts have come up a number of times on swapping necks, what is your preferred neck spec for a Strat neck? Type of radius? Profile? Nut width? Fret size? -
I'm giving my JTV-69 a lot of playtime and was about to buy a new neck until I saw the cost to get specifically what I wanted. It just didn't feel 'good' to me up past the 10th or 12th, and found many felt the same online. So I decided to give this neck a chance and played the hell out of it the last two nights. I think part of the problem isn't totally the feel of the neck at those frets but the strings playability. I'm thinking it needs the truss rod adjusted, for a start. Two factors might be where I am (Colorado) and where it shipped from, but more so the fact I tune it down half a step. It seems like the strings are too close to the neck and don't sustain well/die off above the 12th or so. I believe the neck needs to bend in just a little toward the strings. 2 things I'm looking for; Advice on adjusting the truss rod (Korean JTV-69; truss accessible from headstock) Neck specs just for curiosity and as a reference if I do buy another neck as to what to avoid; Radius Neck profile Nut seems to be 1 5/8.

Late to the game but I have the Helix output going 3 ways; AES out to Powercab+ XLR left/right out to Steinberg UR44 to JBL LSR305 pair and 310S Sub 1/4 left right out to Fishman SA330x w/sub Helix is always master guitar volume for me It depends on what I'm doing/testing and will mix the JBLs and Powercab sometimes, but only use the Fishman solo. https://imgur.com/a/B3tSoGZ

How to get the same results in a low volume?
Lone_Poor_Boy replied to willyjacksonjs22's topic in Helix
I'm gonna go out on a limb here, because I don't have the knowledge or ear many above do, but I would guess that is because those beats are all pre-packaged sounds meant to sound good at any level, and along the lines of what rd2rk posted above: "recording engineers get paid BIG BUCKS to make sure that every detail of their recordings is clear at any possible listening level, through any possible playback system". My Alesis drum set sounds the same at any level. Because it was made that way and would get trashed in reviews if it wasn't. But playing a guitar has a crap-ton of dynamics possible before it ever comes out the 1/4" jack to start with. e.g.: your guitar playing isn't pre-packaged so one size does not fit all. -
Is variax dead?

Understood. I can only speak to sources that have worked for me here in the US. -

Here are three recommendations I have for finding a Variax Guitar and getting a firm shipping date (ignoring whether you can purchase or ship from them): Guitar Center Used (I have bought 5 guitars through them) Reverb Sweetwater -
Here's a 2' cable. If you search 'line 6 G50 replacement cable' you might find some a bit longer. https://www.amazon.com/HQRP-Connector-Right-Angle-Instrument-Replacement/dp/B01786S9JC/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=line+6+G50+replacement+cable&qid=1588874342&sr=8-5 This site allows you to select different lengths. https://cactuscables.com/products/line-6-g50-g90-wireless-upgrade-replacement

There is no doubt the guitar and selected pickup(s) change the sound of a preset, just like it does the sound coming out of your amp, but I don't think the Variax is the best demo. I love my Variax for changing tuning, experimenting, or just goofing around but it sounds just like yours did, using the VDI, and for the most part did not represent what those actual guitar/pickup combos would sound like. With the right preset per, they probably could. But the Variax still has a processed sound via VDI. 1/4", it is very Strat-like, and it sounds great. A place I can really hear the processed sound is when I play Jimi Hendrix's version of 'Come On' when he does the E and A-string riff after the last line of the verse, right before the E7#9 chorus. Try it both ways; VDI, 1/4". "Come on sugar let the good times roll" https://imgur.com/a/uw3bGjz

Helix user, but the few times I've gone there I see multiple repeats in the first few panels and bail. When I have downloaded presets of value from there it has come from YouTube videos with links usually. I see it as more of a repository but not a good index of them.
