I maybe being thick or tired - you've got three separate/indepent paths, correct? Why the two gain/volume blocks on the top row at the end? (although they take up minimal DSP) What's the second row doing? (is that your "clean" path) Do you need both delays / volume/gain / EQ / dynamic blocks after the cab in the third row? If your second line is the clean, stick a "pre-amp" and an IR block in there if have the DSP. That'll be better than a unamped sound

Obvious answer is to use snapshots to switch the Ev Panama and other amp a clean and distorted setting and stick with only two amp blocks If you really need to use a clean amp (ie. Fender) then Path 1A-1B / Path 2A-2B is the best option using snapshots to control the flow of the signal from the A & B line (instead of switching amp blocks on and off which can cause noise/pops). You'd be best to utilise the same cab and effects blocks across your clean/dirty sound and only have the path split handle the amp - using two amps on one DSP chip will have you rethinking which effects blocks to use though

A second hand Morningstar controller will be a cheaper option (maybe even a brand new one) plus it’ll be fully customisable when you decide to add some other switching or function

I use a Helix Rack into a Palmer Macht 402 power amp and pair of Zilla cabs loaded with Celestion F12-X200 speakers and it sounds like an amp in the room. With the flat characteristics of the amp and speakers (both designed to be used with modellers) you can utilise IRs or the Helix cabs with no tonal colouring - my understanding is the PowerStage and the Palmer are one in the same so your choice of speaker will be the deciding factor. I had a HX Stomp into a Laney Laney Ironheart IRT-X powered cab/wedge prior to the rack and while it sounded good it was definitely small and boxy You've also got to factor in the 8 block limit in the Stomp so there's not much room for tone shaping with EQs/compression if you want to use want an array of drive and effects too "in the box"

The Carvin is a tube amp, correct; and are you powering the amp and the HX One from the same outlet? You might have a ground loop if you're running them from separate outlets (might being the main word) When I had pedals on a board (BOSS, EHX etc) and a Marshall half stack before going digital some of the pedals didn't play nicely with the amp, especially in the effects loop. I don't remember it being an issue with the Fender solid state amp I had before the Marshall. You might need a hum eliminator/ground loop isolator box between your HX One and amp Search "hum eliminator box" or "ground loop isolator box". They're in the sub £/€/$ 50 price range

I'm still only using my MC8 for very basic functions but my understanding is the "on enter bank" applies to actions in the Morningstar unit only (I could be wrong though) I have buttons setup to go to specific presets in different setlists on my Helix Rack. The buttons on the first bank on my MC8 will switch to another bank and snapshot 1 of the particualr Helix preset MSG1 = CC32 0 (to switch to the first setlist) MSG2 = PC 16 (to switch to preset 05A in that setlist) MSG3 = CC69 0 (to activate snapshot 1) MSG4 = Bank jump X (to make the MC8 switch to another bank that has actions setup for the preset I've initiated) Message 1-3 has to be sent to send to the Helix's MIDI channel, message 4 is an internal function to the controller. I've always found that whatever I'm trying to get my controller to do I have to have the messages 1-3 in that order (and in the correct order within the 16 messages sent by the button press)

Firstly, is it true or a myth that having an analogue always-on pedal (clean boost, line driver, EQ etc.) before a Helix actually makes it a better playing experience? I already have a Peterson Stobostomp tuner and Dunlop Junior Wah in front of my Helix Rack but they're not always left on I'd like to hear other's views on the matter, what they used or have tried, and also if you had to do anything different with your presets, mainly with the input impedence setting and fuzz/treble boost type effects. I considered getting an Xotic Super Clean but now I'm doubting myself and got that "it'll just be a waste of money" thought in my head Thanks in advance Ben

@joleneedmonson I assume you mean something like the guitarist plugged into your Helix using the top path of the preset(s) and your vocal mic plugged into the same Helix using the bottom path and then each path coming out on separate outputs? If that's the case you could use a unit like the Morningstar MC3 or MC6 and setup your effects blocks (bypass, parameter changes etc) using MIDI CC and the guitarist use the on-board snapshot feature for their changes - I assume any MIDI controller would do but I only have experience with the Morningstar MC8 plus they're a small form factor It would be a bit of a pain setting up but could be done (it's easier to do using HX Edit and the Morningstar editor than on the units themselves). Be aware that the blocks on the "vocal" path would all have to be set to ignore snapshot control. You could also use an external expression pedal for your blocks too (delay mix/feedback, distortion/EQ changes etc)

I used to own a DSL 50 head when they were first released back in the 90s and remember you could get a few different flavours of Marshall sounds out of it. Depending on how you set your actual amp you might want to try the Brit 2203 (JCM 800) model over the Brit J45 Norm - especially since you can choose which input to use If you're looking for a clean pedal platform amp don't discredit the Archetype Clean and Line 6's own Aristocrat / Clarity / Litigator models either. While they're not "Marhall" sounding, they're very good as a base -
Although I'm only a home player, I run my Helix Rack stereo into a Palmer Macht 402 rack power amp and 2x Zilla 1x12 cabs with Celestion F12-X200 speakers. I've always used the full amp block into a cab (or IR) block. Unless you've got some whacky or distortion effect in your post pre-amp section of your chain you should be able to put your FX loop block after the cab block and run stuff just fine. I would love there to be an option to mismatch pre-amps and power amps, but that's not a discussion for this forum. One for the Ideascale

@elphickkenny nothing in your editor suggests a value/sequence error. I had an issue with my HX Stomp/Eventide setup were I had to mess around with the MIDI channels on my H9's before they received the command from my MC8 correctly. The only thing I can suggest is recreating your intro/verse presets on the buttons I-P from scratch in the same bank to see if it works there. I might be the order you've got them connected (as metnioned by @DunedinDragon) I assume you don't have an issue with any of your other banks? -

It's been a while since I used my MC8 with more than one device (I had an HX Stomp and two Eventide H9's). Are you definitely sure your Line 6 and BOSS pedal are set up on different MIDI channels on the units themselves? If so, double check that the MC8 button press doesn't have one of the 16 messages set to the BOSS MIDI channel in error (highlighted). That was usually my problem when I was getting a strange action on a device I didn't intend to change. Or share a screenshot of your settings -
I play guitar but I use a Palmer Macht 402 power amp and a pair of 1x12" Zilla cabs loaded with Celestion F12-X200 speakers with my Helix rack. Prior to that I used a Laney IRT-X 200W Active Expansion Cabinet with a HX Stomp. Both gave perfect results with stock cabs and IRs

Would putting the simulator blocks and the amp block in parallel with each other then switch the routing at the split via snapshots stop the popping? You wouldn't be turning off the sim or amp at all, only redirecting the signal from one to the other (hard left/A or right/B)

Depending on the clean/dirty sound you're looking for you could try using just one amp that has the flexiblity to do both and switch between the two with snapshots Or maybe run a overdriven preamp only block into a clean amp block (or Amp & cab block combined), again switching the different sounds via snapshots

@adagosto I bought two H9's when I had a Marshall half stack before I sold it to get an Atomic Amplifire then a HX Stomp modeller. The sounds you can get from the H9 are certainly impressive but to me they can sit on the side of studio/outboard effects than guitar pedal sounds very quickly if you over tweak the settings. Device-wise you've got to remember that the H9 uses the whole processing power for the selected algorithm whereas the HX Stomp XL has to accommodate up to 8 blocks of algorithms with one processor. This means the H9 sound can be far more complex/rich. The one algorithm-at-a-time limitation means that if you do end up liking the H9 sounds more than the XL you'll have to splash out on buying more than one if you want to use an Eventide flanger and Blackhole reverb in one of your presets - which is why you'll see people have two on their boards plus the Strymon Timeline/Big Sky/Mobius If you like the sounds the Eventide products are definitely excellent (small footprint) additions to a HX Stomp/XL pedalboard as long as you're happy to work around the limitations of both units

Looking at the presets in the viewer you're going to be missing the dual amp/cab blend as one is running "dirty" with the drive block and the other is "clean". It's shame you couldn't get something you liked the sound of out of it
