You have to update the guitar using Line 6 Monkey, not Workbench. If you have the guitar connected through the Workbench interface and start Monkey (after downloading and installing the newest version), the guitar will be detected, and it will show you what needs updated. You update the firmware there. It's pretty self-explanatory once you open the program.

Version 2.0 Hd Update

It seems to me my experience was opposite. The updated models seem to have much more brilliance and sparkle to me. In your samples, the ones that are supposedly of the new almost sound like there's a cocked wah applied to them. -

Version 2.0 Hd Update

Well, I was involved in the beta on this one, and to me the changes in the models seemed pretty dramatic. I've been using the updated models live for the last few months, and I can tell a big difference in the way things react to overdrive and distortion. I just think everything is much more lively for lack of a better word. -
Well, what would you propose they do with it? I don't see a really clear alternative that still makes it so you can put the effects loop anywhere in the chain and have it controllable with a footswitch.
-
To answer your question in the title, yes the USB audio out bypasses the D/A conversion at the analog outs. Using the FX loop would add another layer of conversion. I suppose putting the loop in a tone uses some DSP, but it's probably very minimal. The converters would be separate chips.

To add on what Zap said, you can have as many instances of the same effect or effect type as you want in a patch (within the limitation of the 8 total effects blocks and DSP limit, of course).
-
Yes, it's totally possible. Take a look at this thread: http://line6.com/support/topic/1743-cab-simulated-output/

+1 to what BigChas52 said... The list of all the HD amps is here: http://line6.com/podhd500x/#hdamps
-
You can still do it, but setting it up would be a little different. You need to assign the channel volume parameter in both of you amp blocks to be controlled by the expression pedal. You would just have them set opposite one another. So when one volume is at 100%, the other would be 0% and vice versa. As long as you have the pan in the mixer block set to center for each tone, you can keep the tone stereo as well.

I would try re-installing the firmware and doing the global settings reset. The instructions are here: http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2222
-
After you've reinstalled the firmware have you done the global settings reset? Could be it... The other thing is that it may be that those patches got corrupted somehow. That's not unheard of.

It is kind of counter-intuitive, I agree. But, yeah, it will change the sound of effects. The front modes have the high, low, and mid focus settings, and those tone correction settings affect the tone regardless of the amp model being on or off. I actually think this is why some people say the HD500 sucks tone for effects only. They leave it in Combo Front mode (they're plugging into the front a combo after all), but they don't realize their tone is being changed by the output setting. The correct setting for effects only is studio direct or one of the power amp modes. The power amp modes don't change the sound when the amp model is turned off because all they're doing is revoicing the cab models.
-
Actually, this isn't correct. If you use one of the front output modes, the tone correction is applied to the tone even if there isn't an amp model selected.
-
Well, whether or not it works the way you want it to, I'm sure it's per design. I'm sure the thought process was that if you plug into the DT-25 head, you'll most likely be using the matching cab, which is closed back, or some other closed back cabinet. Of course, there is the chance that someone might want to use an open back cab. You just have to make the change manually. If you plug into the DT-25 combo, the HD500 goes to Combo Front mode.
-
That's the expected behavior.
-
The effects on the HD are generally better quality than the X3, yes. Especially the delays and reverbs.
-
You can't have multiple output modes for the different outputs on the HD500 or 500X. The one thing you can do, though, is use the effects send as an output for your acoustic. If you put the effects loop at the end of your preset, the tone correction associated with the combo front mode won't effect the effects send. The one downside it that you'll need to use a direct box if you do this opposed to just having the XLR out on the X3L. The other thing that may or may not be an issue it that it ties up your effects loop so you'll won't be able to use it in other presets.

The volume effect on the M9 behaves the same way as the Digitech pedal. It won't give you a volume boost. It only cuts. But like I said, there are other ways to get a clean boost on the M9. Whether or not the boost actually boosts the volume of your amp while in the loop, I would think it should work.

Actually, there's 24 scenes in 4 folders. You can access any of the six scenes within a folder by hitting the footswitch that scene is assigned to when you are in scene select view. To get to the other folders, you turn the model select knob while in scene select view. The scenes really are more like presets. Within in each scene you can have six effects, three of which you can use simultaneously. You could set up an effect to be a clean boost. One of the EQs or compressors could work for that.
