I would seriously welcome some form of this. I completely understand this may not happen at launch, but this is great for a post-launch update.
-
Thats pretty sweet, but just incase... is there an option to manually calibrate the expression pedal?
-
I agree with you for the most part. Most of them are regular headphones. Out of all the sub $1000 headphones those AKG's are the best I have ever heard. (especially for flat frequency response, which is one of the requirements I was looking for) Perhaps "Extreme" high quality is not as accurate for them as the ones you linked to be fair, as I guess "super" high quality would be more accurate lol. However, regular headphones they are not.
-
Those are (more than likely) even more high quality, but its safe to say the AKG K712 Pro are extreme high quality headphones as well. These are some that you don't have to pay $1,500 for! I surely wouldn't classify them as regular headphones lol, not even close.

I have to agree. The UI is very nice, the routing is fantastic, the USB 8x8 and ReAmping seems to be stellar. (honestly for a single unit it seems like easily the best on the market for these sections) Now to the sounds. What we have heard so far sounds great, but we need more. The quality of the Amps/FX are the deal breaker for me. IF they all sound better than my Eleven Rack then its pretty much a sealed deal for me to get one. It doesn't have to beat the Axe FX, just get us in the same ball park as Kemper, or Axe FX. Then that is sufficient enough for me!

I plan to use the Helix (rack version) for the central nervous system for my studio! When I first get it, I will use it on my current monitoring system. Speakers are: Event BAS 20/20 studio monitors (2). These are easily considered FRFR. (connected to Helix through XLR outputs) Headphones are: AKG-K712 Pro (extremely high quality headphones) this will often be going through a Little Dot Mk II headphone amp with aftermarket tubes. (this will be using the 1/4 outputs on the Helix to RCA inputs on the Little Dot) Other times straight from the headphone output of the Helix. I may upgrade headphone amps later, and studio monitor speakers to maybe a Presonus Scepter s6 setup, with a Temblor 10 sub.. (maybe) I often thought about getting two cabinets on either side of the room, but honestly the studio monitors are more than sufficient for this task, and they are already there. Space is already limited.

While I can't speak for the HD series, I will say that for a fact the Pod Studio GX1 has a very crappy usb port. But then again that is basically the cheapest physcial product that line 6 sales.

This is good to know though, I understood some of it already, but it does help clarify a little. Now this is the exact info I was seeking, especially in the bold! I was confused if this mattered to me in my situation, or not. I wasn't sure it did, but I am glad you confirmed it doesn't. I was a little confused myself, and didn't really know if the two different things I was talking about were related in in away in context of my situation. Thank you very much for taking the time to explain this to me. To DI, yeah it would be rack for me.
-
Well I know I may not have worded it perfectly, but I don't exactly know how to word what I want to find out. But I know I will not be getting it at launch, so there will be some time in between when it launches, and my purchase of it. So in that time people who bought it will either complain about it, or not mention it because they didn't notice it, or its good quality. I know dry track, is supposed to be dry track. But after reading this thread, it got me a little confused if this true-by-pass business has much affect on dry tracking with the Helix itself. I mentioned A/D conversion only because that is what I thought (to my knowledge) would be the main thing that affects the dry track recording. I don't mean to confuse, but I didn't think any of it was really that confusing.
-
No, lol I know all that. I just want to reduce unnecessary conversion. I am mainly worried about how dry the dry track actually is that would be sent over usb for recording is affected by this true/not true-bypass. Basically does this "not a true-by-pass" affect the dry track, in any way, if its is just Guitar to Helix (dry track over usb) to PC? I really don't care about the by-pass being true, or not. I just want to know if it affects the dry tracking. If it does, then to what affect.
-
Assuming you're responding to me. Actually, The Helix (rack version) would be the audio interface in my situation, replacing my Eleven Rack. That is why I am talking about over USB. The very reason why I am looking to go this route is to reduce unnecessary conversion. I was just wondering at this point if the dry track (that is sent over usb) an actual dry track, or not? (and if not... is it a noticeable difference?)
-
Even though Mine isn't listed on there. I know I was really PO'd at Line 6 when the HD series came out that they ditched USB ReAmping. (that was in previous versions). Then they brought out the HD-X series, and still no USB Re-Amping! I remember posting a few negative things, But I wasn't mean though. Now they look like they have taken the ReAmping with Helix to a whole new level (like Eleven Rack level, and maybe even beyond!) Seems like I will be eating my words, and seems like I will be buying a Helix Rack sometime in the not-so-distant future, if its sound quality is noticeably better than my Eleven Rack.
-
I too would like to know this. I would also like to know if the Dry track signal (that is sent to the PC/DAW) is a fixed volume, or is there a way to increase the volume (and only the volume) of that Dry Track?
-
Reading this thread (most of it anyway) got me to thinking... How good is the dry track , that would be sent to the DAW over USB be? I assume it would really depend on the A/D conversion. Which I already received an answer that "The A/D/As sound very clean." But after reading this thread I was wondering if the quality of the Dry track sent over USB to the DAW/PC was dependent only on the A/D/ conversion.
-
That sounds awesome, and thanks for the response! As long as I can ReAmp like I have explained in my previous post (dialing it in while playing the mix from the DAW, and the dry {recorded} guitar from the DAW simultaneously) the only thing I really have to wait for before I jump on board is the sound quality comparisons. Technically speaking of routing, and flexibility, this thing seems to have me covered, and then some. Nice job Line 6! I just hope it isn't one of those "too good to be true" situations. I really hope that the sound quality is actually improved as much as all these other areas. I'm excited to see/hear more of this product.

I have a few questions that I didn't see readily available or asked yet. Assuming I get this product... This would be a center piece for my studio. I read somewhere that the mic input (xlr) is phantom powered, and has a mic pre. But lets say that I don't really like the mic pre, can I turn off the mic pre, and phantom power, to run my own mic pre amp into this xlr input on the Helix? Secondly, about patches that will be shared. I assume there will be a nice, and convenient way of doing this... Will the Helix rack users be segregated from the Helix floorboard users? Or will the patches be interchangeable between both Helix products? IF not, then why not? How is the A/D/A conversion? Any information you can give us on this yet? This might be the unit that would be a great upgrade from my Eleven Rack. I will need to hear more of the sound quality itself of course, but I understand that is something that will be revealed more as we get closer to release date. But the features, and routing capabilities (especially with the 8x8 in/out usb) makes this a ReAmping monster! It should allow me to dial in a ReAmping tone that will fit in with the mix, (as I can dial it in simultaneously with the mix from my DAW playing at the same time all through the Helix, and out to my monitors, or headphones) As far as I know the only guitar processor/interface that allowed that before this one is the Eleven Rack.

BTW thanks for the link, I haven't seen this one yet.

So This Is Why Line6 Doesn't Announce Updates....
Lachdanan0121 replied to RipperShred's topic in POD HD
lol it was a stab with levity. However, that being said, I don't doubt there is some kind of update that will happen with drivers/firmware with the HD family sometime in the coming future. I mean its not all that old of a family of products. -
Digitech is announcing their new lineup at NAMM I think. (a few months from now) I personally don't have an issue waiting (within reason), though I am not a Live musician.

While I half expected this, (the waiting till NAMM part) so it doesn't annoy me maybe as much as you guys, but it is irritating when it happens regardless. Same with waiting for features, updates that have been promised in the gaming world that take forever. (at the moment a public release of the multiplayer of Duke Nukem Megaton Edition on Steam is a prime example) I am still not sure which physical modeler route I want to take, including the PODHD series.... The wait continues, no biggie. My gf got me EZ Mix 2 +6 expansions last night (got it at a good price) to go with my Pod Farm 2. Even more glad she did since they are waiting. Should easily hold me over to see what is announced at NAMM. But on the plus side, this also gives L6 a bit more time to work on that update too! -
Well the Digitech GSP 1101 is able to do it, but its old. You could run that in conjunction with the Pod HD, which is what some of the users on Sevenstringforum are trying. I personally am holding off upgrading my modelling setup until Digitech, and Peavey announce all their new stuff. (I have hopes that Digitech will make an actual successor to the GSP 1101.)

This is one of the first main things that disappointed me about the whole HD family. On a site note: With USB 3.0 becoming more popular, they could really expand the recording I/O capabilities by quite a bit. This would of course mean new hardware, but I hope that the competition is thinking about this.. (make it BC with usb2.0, but some of the features are limited) Or just make full use of Usb2.0 Add a $50-150 to the price. (audio interfaces can do many channels through USB) I understand limited DSP, but make a higher grade model, and sell it "appropriately."
-
EQ is important to me, although I am a guitarist, I am also a composer, and mixing "engineer." EQ is something I have come to really value, as it is one of the main tools that can help a mix glue together nicely. Although to be fair I could just use my EQs in my DAW, but that is really beside the point. Knowing that the Pod HD lineup has this EQ issue, as well as cabs issue (and no IR loading) Is one of the reasons I am holding off on another POD. I too want to see what Digitech, and Peavey (if they are working on something) come out with. And whatever Line 6 does to compete... if anything. Ohh if I had the extra $$ I would just go Axe II, but that thing is so expensive.

Amp Wish List For The Next Update (whenever That Is)
Lachdanan0121 replied to RipperShred's topic in POD HD
Amps: Mesa Boogie Mark IV, or V (especially the higher gain channels) Engl amps. (at least 1, or 2 more) Utilities: IR Loader, even if it takes up an FX Block....
