  1. Oh you finally got it? I will be ordering mine here in the very near future. After you get some time with it post your impressions, if ya don't mind. I would like to hear more from the Rack version users.
  2. AMP to FRFR? Well I went from Amp to Studio monitors (Event BAS 20/20) which are FRFR. First thing I noticed was a whole lot more high-end frequencies which for the most part was NOT pleasant. Very shrill. Second thing I got noticeably more low end (but it muddied up the tone more) A Hi-cut, Lo-Cut EQ... (or low pass, high pass EQ) will generally fix most of this. Now I dial in some of the most beautiful tones that I ever have just out of my plugins. I don't have the Helix (yet) but I will. I would assume it would be the same with it. Although I would first try it with the CAB Hi-Low pass EQ. Then again for those of us recording we should have some stellar EQ plugins that could help. I know I do, (Fabfilter Pro Q 2)
  3. ... and I call that "temporally tethered." lol j/k. Although it isn't too far off to those who would rather cling to the past instead of the embrace change. When I am sixty am I suppose to frown on VR? Smart Homes? Self Driving cars? ... just because I am 60? I do not mean to be offensive. This is more of a light-hearted tit-for-tat. :P In all seriousness I have nothing against magazines. I still read them from time to time. But, due to many reasons it will be one of the things to slow down. That and printed papers. Even physical printed money is only around 10% of our current money supply. I don't mean to carry it on, I mean they are great relics for the toilet area, lol I kid, I kid.
  4. Alrighty, but the comments validity still stands. ;) Age regardless.
  5. Funny, I am 31 actually. :D Am I tall enough for the ride?
  6. Yeah, but magazines are something that will slowly start to dwindle, actually it already has. Will it ever completely go away? Probably not. But it will be reduced greatly, as it should.
  7. Too true! I use that argument a lot when telling people about new socio-economic, and technological possibilities when they (who are typically ignorant of our current state of technology or socio-economics) love to say "that couldn't possibly happen." That is exactly what the Wright brothers were told. Also kind of goes with a quote from Henry Ford. "If I would of asked the people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses."
  8. Even then if you put a distortion unit after an AMP, and you get a pleasing sound.. Then that kind of buckles that "hard & fast rule" Using EZ Mix, and a few other FX plugins, I have learned all too well that just because something isn't designed to be used with something, doesn't mean it can't work great with it. Its always possible, even if the probability is lowered.
  9. Its not needed, However you still may want to nab one later on though. I too will strictly be using my Helix rack for Studio use, so I wasn't planning on the floor controller either. However, we will be doing vocals too, and this will allow me to change parameters/effects in the Helix from the mic stand without going back and forth between the Mic, and the Helix unit physically. So I decided I am going to add one to my order.
  10. Honest Opinion is probably right about it being a driver conflict. Without the Helix connected and "On," your PC will revert to the internal soundcard/on board sound of the motherboard.. This is the main reason you would get a bluescreen, or crash if your External Soundcard lost connection to your PC with your DAW open. If you only use your Helix for a sound card, (and never will use the onboard sound again) you can simply uninstall the onboard sound drivers. Make sure your Helix drivers are up to date, and is powered on and connected to your PC each time you power up the PC. If you still plan on using your onboard sound at some point for anything the above method is not for you. What I would do at this point is make sure you install the latest Win 10 drivers for your on board audio, and for the Helix itself. Even if you have up to date drivers, I would re-install both. (starting with the on board drivers first) If you have trouble uninstalling the drivers, there are third party tools you can download, (most are free) that can help you with that. I think Driver Cleaner is one of them.
  11. Agreed! As I will be using it for work as well in the not too distant future. :P This is what I meant about quality over quantity. Goes hand in hand with what you have in bold there.
  12. I don't really need it to be rugged, not at that price for an ethernet cable. Its strictly for studio use anyway. I can get the Cat6/Cat5 cables that I need both for like $12 total. Hell, I prolly have a few extra lying around. But I appreciate it though!
  13. Oh thanks for the response, this is good news. I will indeed use 2 cables. I will have them routed different ways. 1st cable: under my studio desk, 2nd cable: routed to take the cable a longer way around to where the mic stand will be placed for recording. As I plan on using the controller to control the Helix from the mic stand, that way I don't always have to go back and forth between the unit, and the mic. This way I can just unhook the cable, and move the controller, then hook the 2nd cable up, and switch them out at the back of the Helix Rack.(which will be easily accessible) Depending on which position I am working at.
  14. What cable is used for this? I have been trying to find an answer, but I really can't, and looking at it looks like some kind of RJ-45. Is there a specific type of cable that connects the Helix Rack to the floor controller? Or would any Cat6, or Cat5 cable work? Thanks, I just want to make sure I have everything I need in my order.
  15. Actually updating every 2-3 months would be completely fine with me. As long as its quality updates/additions, instead of quantity! I really can't stand fillers just to increase quantity. ;)
  16. May, or may not have anything to do with it. BUT... I have an Eleven Rack, and it doesn't play well with USB 3.0. Matter of fact Avid advises it requires a USB 2.0, and only a USB 2.0. This may be an issue of pluging the Helix in to a usb 3.0 slot. Just throwing it out there.
  17. Yea, I am glad I waited. This is one of the reasons I wanted to go rack version. That and I have a nice little setup in my studio that it will be angled up at me where I can see everything clearly, and have ease of access to the units interface with my right hand (which is my dominant hand) That and it saves screen real-estate when working inside my DAW. However, I do plan on getting the floor board controller for it at some point, just not initially.
  18. I just received an email stating that the Helix Rack is now in stock and ready for purchase from Sweetwater Music. While I still have a little more $$ to save up for it. I am letting you guys know which have money, but are just waiting for it to be in stock. I also see ZZounds.com is expecting them this Sunday.
  19. SWEET! Line 6.... Just keep at it. If you can keep the support for the Helix sustained like this. You will definitely be bringing back more customers, and creating a lot of happy new ones. I jumped ship from Line 6 couple years ago. Now I am ecstatic to be ordering my Helix Rack soon. (almost done saving up the $$)
  20. Im really glad to read Helix is great for Bass. Although I do bass more in the sample realm I may upgrade to a physical one at some point. Its not on my immediate to do list. I use Shreddage Bass, and Ample Sound Bass plugins/sample packs. (AmpleSound is really high quality but more expensive. Shreddage Bass is cheaper, but not quite as good imo) I too have never got a great tone for bass out of a physical guitar modeler such as Pod, Eleven Rack. This is great news about the Helix being good for it, thanks for the posts.
  21. This is true. I have had this happen with a Samsung SSD for a desktop build for my girlfriend. Samsung, as far as I know, doesn't have much of a problem with this. The site we ordered from however, had a few reviews stating something similar. So we determined it was the retailer, not manufacture in that case.
  22. Exactly. I will not be trying to build the same exact patches I have in my Eleven Rack with the Helix Rack once I get it. I will just try to build/tweak even better patches! That being said I can see where touring musicians would want a close tone to what they have already recorded via Pod HD or whatever.
  23. This would be bad business. Those units that are shipped back to Line 6 for repairs/replacement are in no way considered new products. They are by every definition refurbished and must be sold as such. IF not this could really hurt Line 6's reputation if they send refurbished products out with the mask, and price of a brand new item. Because people will find out sooner, or later. So I think, and really hope Line 6 is not doing that. They could easily save the ones shipped back to them for spare parts on Helix's that need replacement parts. As Line 6 isn't always going to be sending full replacements out to people. Especially with growing time lapse from the order date.
  24. Those speed bumps just keep forming in front of you don't they? lol My significant other knows when my Helix comes in, I will not be reachable. Hunger will just have to be induced by my "muse." Hell, she will probably be in the studio with me to see what the hype is all about. Taking pictures as I unbox and whatnot. As far as the yard goes, she does most of it. She enjoys it, finds it therapeutic. I don't take that from her, not to mention I find it a time eater, and it doesn't do anything for me personally. She will be happy when it comes in, so she doesn't have to hear "about it" anymore, just hear "it."
  25. Even more so if you want the full routing ReAmping features that the Helix provides, with the Axe FX II. You will need a separate audio interface. So that adds even more to the cost of going with that route. Gets into the range of double the cost of the Helix. While I truly think the Axe FX II is top class when it comes to modelers on sound quality... it is not twice as good sounding as the Helix, not even close.
