  1. "Women of Rock", now that could be great! Such a wide selection to pull from.
  2. Matt, I use a PRS with passive PUs and a HD500 going direct to FOH and it sounds great. I tend to create / tweak my patches not using headphones. Headphones change the stereo landscape a bit, also depending on your speakers versus headphones the frequency response could be radically different. What kind of music? I played through an X32 with QSC active monitors / subs etc and it rocked! I was pretty flat with the EQ on the X32 board. If you post a custom tone I'll try it out and see how it sounds with my setup. Maybe something might show up. good luck, Rick
  3. Rock Star!!! Thanks, I'll check it out tonight. I appreciate the help!
  4. Hey! Could someone point me to how to set up both a volume and wah pedal? I don't want to rely on the toe switch, I find I have to really lay into it and sometimes it is finicky when switching (it makes almost a crunching noise which is unnerving). Is it possible to use the switche(s) to toggle between the wah and volume pedal? I typically use the HD500 application to edit. If there is a customtone available I'd appreciate it. In an ideal world, I would want one switch to toggle between wah and volume...not sure that is possible. Thanks, Rick
  5. Yeah I tend to agree with gunpointmetal. Just because it may not be your cup of tea doesn't mean it indicates someone can't play well. I actually do not use a lot of the effects but I can overwhelm the DSP with dual amps and fairly common effect setups. Your comment really is you being comfortable and confident with your skills and sounds, which is great, but it certainly is not the end all. There are some excellent contemporary players that use fairly sophisticated signal chains...
  6. Funny, the Big Stubby I take to gigs for if/when my hand gets tired. I like them *but* I find the lack of edge on the pick changes my articulation of notes. Dumb stuff to worry about, may be all in my head. The other thing that is weird is I have nights when I play and it all comes easy...from mind to pick...lovely. Then I have other nights when I feel like I am working every freakin' note...sigh...anyway I digress. Anyway, interesting stuff...be curious where you land.
  7. Sounds very good, nice track too. I am a huge fan of the Jazz IIIs. For me the trick is not gripping too hard, firm but not stiff if that makes sense. I find I can be a little more fluid with the picking hand by holding the pick more relaxed...your mileage may vary ;) Anyway...funny as guitarists how much we wade through the details of every little thing...
  8. sounds good...good chops! Thanks for uploading the tone...
  9. justcrash, Yeah I left off that the bands I am referring to in my area are popular as well. So as a musician type it is a little frustrating to watch. Some of the facebook comments for these bands are around how good they sound, how diversified their setlist is etc. Well yeah, they are not playing!!!! DUH. anyway, I they can make the argument they are still entertaining, bringing people in so from a club perspective they are "good". I need a good cry. lol.
  10. Thanks for posting the links and info...I need to take some time and try this out...seems pretty cool. I use passive pickups, humbuckers at that so I'll need to tweak the patches...I am okay with that...I really am interested in understandning how you configure the pedals...a new way to look at things for me...thanks!
  11. OKay...maybe I am being a dunce  ...I can't seem to find your patches...I am interested in how you configure the pedal as you describe...
  12. Yeah that was really a joke...I love all types of music...some of my favorite is jazz / rock fusion stuff...tom quayle, martin miller etc.
  13. Exactly! My commentary was about bands not playing at all...smoke and mirrors. One band I tried out for was playing dock of the bay and the part where there is whistling the guy would stand there and fake whistle...it was embarrassing. I have played in bands with tracks too. There are some very good bands with tracks. My only issue with tracks is if the crowd is into it you have to end when the track ends...if you want to do another round of improv / verse / whatever you can't and finally when a tune does not go over you cannot bail out or transition mid song to something else...you have to ride it out. "Les Paul and Marshall playing same sound pentatonic claiming we are not musicians..." <--- lots of great bands did that... :P Difference between a jazz guy and rocker? A jazz guy plays 1000 chords in front of 3 people, a rocker plays 3 chords in front of 1000s.
  14. Yeah I agree...the HD500 is a good piece of gear...I wasn't putting down Line 6 at all in my previous post...just pointing out there are more options that make the HD500 not as much as a standout as years ago...buying strictly for price point doesn't always mean you got the best thing, or vice versa for that matter. Yeah, sad to say most audiences are completely unaware in so many areas. In my area of the woods there are several bands that track vocals, buy instrument tracks way beyond a supporting role. It is essentially karaoke with bright lights and people pretending to play. The audience continually tells the folks how good they are and have no clue that most of the notes / vocals are not coming from the band. I tried out for a band and when I went to play, all the guitar parts were already coming through the PA on a prerecorded track...I stopped playing and they informed me this is how we do it...ummmm....not so much for me. Needless to say I didn't accept the gig. anyway I digress.
  15. I have owned several Line 6 devices and still rely on the HD500. I guess my concern would be the following...when Line 6 came out with modelling initially a milllion years ago it was way ahead of the curve...they developed a unique, amazing technology which was a real game changer. Fast forward several years and everyone has a device with modelling and other vendors have improved capabilities like the Kemper and Axe Fx. What keeps me with line 6 is the price point for now. I guess I am waiting for the next big creative thing, not simply a chipset upgrade or new buttons or even proper EQ labelling :) . I know it is hard to be innovative all the time but to simply ride out your past accomplishments when the field is getting much more congested makes Line 6 less of a standout. Quite frankly if Axe-Fx or Kemper (insert several other manufacturers) came out with a low end version of their product the choice would not be as easy as a wallet decision. With that said, I like Line 6, I would like them to remain a top contender... Anyway, good luck to you and your new tone search. What did you end up with???????????? -Rick
  16. I own 2 PRS SE custom 24 guitars. As far as guitars go, the PRS sound and play fantastic. I play live with a POD HD 500 direct to the PA playing dance to rock to everything inbetween. I constantly get compliments on my guitar tones and people asking where my amp is. I have been playing since the invention of dirt. I LOVE the guitars. Best bang for the buck out there IMHO. With that said, I have only tried a JTV...never owned one. If you are only recording then maybe it is a better option if you need a variety of sounds. The reality is whatever instrument you buy it needs to inspire you. From how it sounds to how it plays to the reliability. It needs to help you want to pick it up and practice the stuff you suck at and enjoy the stuff you play with ease. A funny thing to consider is having too many options can be just as bad as not having enough. You could spend more time tweaking than becoming highly proficient on the instrument. A good guitarist sounds good on pretty much anything...a bad one doesn't sound better behind any technology. I am stepping off the soapbox now...just making the point to get whatever will make you a better musician. Good luck and try before you buy!!!!
  17. billlorentzen,Can you share a patch(s) where you have this configured? I'd be curious to see what it looks like... thanks, Rick
  18. I would like a deep fryolater option so I can make donuts while gigging. It would be nice if it was midi capable so I can vary the temp and have the donuts ready for breaks between sets.
