  1. Well having used it at a few gigs...this thing works really, really great. one set of batteries easily does a full night...I am quite pleased. It sounds great... I decided to go the rechargeable battery route as well....seems most cost effective. I have it connected to my HD500 direct to the PA and it sounds super! The only cons so far are the door construction for the batteries and the belt clip...which has been mentioned a million times. It is true, they are quite fragile. I use a pouch connected to my guitar strap to help with those issues, and it works great. I just thought I would report back after trying the thing out.
  2. It worked for me if I used it for a half step down (E -> Eb)...any more than that and it started sounding a bit artificial...as mentioned, this does all the strings...not any single one. We were playing a Bon Jovi tune which used open E in the main riff and the singer couldn't handle the original key so we dropped it a half step ( I used the pitch shift originally)...in the end I just used standard tuning and played it in Eb not worrying too much about the "correct way" to play it. As pianoguyy mentions...nobody cared...
  3. Man, STOP telling me about this stuff...I am trying to not get sucked into the Helix vortex....HELP!!! Those tone path routing options sound GREAT! uggghhhh....like billorentzen that would be ideal for me as well....
  4. Are you using the mission control for lights? Midi to DMX? That seems like a lot of tap dancing...but cool rig!!!
  5. I probably should have titled this thread, "Off Topic: Identify your favorite sandwich". I am still hopeful though...you lunch people will not crush my dreams...
  6. It doesn't hurt to ask...not illegal...I mean Line 6 ran a 30% 0ff or something a ways back...I was hoping for the same... Thanks, Rick
  7. I would suggest you buy it....not like it....sell it to me for half price. It would be a win win... :P Joking aside, gear can be inspirational but nothing beats being proficient at your instrument (which is really a life long endeavor)...then gear doesn't really define you anymore it just becomes a tool to get stuff done and realistically any brand will work for you...you pick what is practical versus it making you think you'll be better than what you really are...
  8. 8 hours sounds good...since I really only need 4 per night...bummer on the meter, but I can deal with that. Thanks for the response!!!!
  9. Waiting for some public opinion / testing in store once it is released and then decide...hoping to receive a 50% off coupon from Line 6 or something like that for Christmas :P
  10. Hi all, I just bought a G30 (arrives Tuesday) and in the pilot's manual it says to use alkaline over rechargeable. Why? I want to use rechargeable for obvious reasons. I gig quite a bit and would rather not have to buy 3000 batteries a year. So is rechargeable AOK? Also, what is the real life expectancy of the batteries for a 4 hour night? Finally, all the talk about the battery compartment door, anything preventative I should consider? thanks!

    Helix Demo Videos

why do guitarists feel the need to put on heavy distortion and shred for a demo...sigh...it is like going into a music store on a Saturday...nothing to be learned about the amp models from that. I just want to hear the amp models etc I don't really care about your guitar chops...strum a chord let it ring...roll back the volume bring it in, change your pick attack etc...play some clean amps...anyway...we'll all know soon enough. With that said, the interface looks great...looks very, very intuitive...
  12. Just because I am curious...do some of you guys/gals gig with the USB cable connected??????? If so, why?????
  13. Interesting...the last lick on the upper part of the neck sounds brighter on the HD500...but certainly in the ball park. Too early to tell anything other than you are very good at matching tones. :P Thanks for posting this...
  14. I think it really boils down to is the 3x cost as compared to the 500(x) going to be worth it...whether sound, ease of use, feel etc...we will all have our own take on what makes it worthwhile...or not. I WANT the Helix to be worth it...being a gear junky and all and fan of Line6 stuff...however, the price point is significantly higher which causes some angst about pulling the trigger. I need to see how it really stacks up (no pun intended). Very excited for this thing to hit the streets...
  15. Can't you do all the editing with your feet or something like that with the Helix? Edit: Never mind you already knew that... :P

    Helix FAQ

Did you integrate(embed) a wireless G50 into the Helix so All I need to buy is a transmitter for my guitar? :P
  17. Yeah, the price point was more than I expected. However, the proof will be in the pudding...does the thing warrant the ~3x price increase? The interface looks great. Love the layout and feature set. At the end of the day it has to sound and feel a heck of a lot better though to get me to bite. As nice as the interface is I am the kind of guy that sets up my tones beforehand and gig like a maniac. I don't screw with my patches once I have them all normalized and good to go. The sound and feel will have to be the biggest value add for me. With that said, I am quite hopeful. I doubt Line6 would rattle their sabers in Kemper / Fractal territory unless they have the goods. Should be interesting...Line6 has done a fabulous job it seems.

    Helix FAQ

Sorry I wasn't being clear... Looking at the image for the front panel (home screen)...how would I know what patches are available if I bank up for example? Are the scribble strips used to show patch names or whatever? I am probably thinking in terms of the HD500...I am just trying to understand how I would know what patches are available and where in a live setting.

    Helix FAQ

Did you change the way the expression pedal switches between exp1 and exp2? I was always uncomfortable with the amount of force necessary to switch between the two. Does the front panel operate in a "live" mode (display patch info versus signal chain or whatever)? Do the effect tails remain across patch changes?
  21. Wow this is a bold move for Line 6. They are approaching Kemper / Fractal territory...here is hoping the sounds / feel of the unit meet or exceed the marketing hype. The board is beautiful with exceptional features....hopefully it will yet again turn the industry on its head...
  22. Wow looks quite sexy....I am anxious to hear some of the tones / effects Musicians Friend already has pre-order set up with a mid August (8/17) availability...
  23. Sounds great! Really nice job. I smiled to myself at about 10 seconds in....your lead line reminded me of the "who's crying now" Neal Schon lead by journey. Good chops and your tone is excellent. You have some interesting lead lines as well....well done!
  24. I think it is okay to ask if the model packs are worth the money or if you can create similar sounds with the existing amps...but to imply the company, even if a joke, is trying to cheat its customer base is off the mark. If you don't find value in the model packs you can return them. Why start the conversation with the implication of wrong doing? Am I missing something here?
