Tboneous, that sounds excellent! I am always amazed the different ways (tone, style, interpretation etc) a guitarist can approach his/her instrument...

Pianoguyy, I haven't figured out if you post stuff for the sport of it or you are serious. The whole" I am more moral than you" rhetoric is comedic at best. Come on, the company dictates the policy not you or the moral police. Additionally, the "That is not the type of person that I want to invite to break bread with me" comment assumes people would want to. Listen, I am sure you are a standup guy and all that, but this is just a forum. You need to get out a little. Calling someone a "tool" over a public internet forum diminishes your credibility as the moral police and as a person I'd want to break bread with. ;) (see what I did there) How are you enjoying the model packs?

Theft? Disgusting? You are funny. Most retail operations in the US will pay the difference to the consumer if a price drop occurred within 30 days for a purchased item. And guess what, in some cases the retailer take the product back like a return and recharges for the sale price (purely as an accounting exercise)....versus just crediting the difference. Although this is not required... Makes me sick? You need to get out more... BTW, I haven't bought the model packs yet... :P

Pianoguyy...I have never heard of such a thing...I learn so much from this forum. Thanks!

I am hoping they are simply pushing the model packs out to wring the last few bucks out of the HD500(x) before announcing a new floorboard at summer namm. One can hope! Yeah, seems to me anyone that bought the packs within 30 days of the sale should get the discount...otherwise Line 6 will see an influx of returns and re-buys at the reduced price anyway.

Always awesome work! That whole thumb pick for leads method is mind boggling...not sure how you ended up there but it serves you well.
-
Nice! That seems much closer to my ears...very cool!

In my unprofessional opinion...yours seems to be have more treble/presence in it and a bit more distortion or dirt on it than the original. So yours sounds quite good and in a mix or live would be fine...if we are splitting hairs those two things jump out at me. Try pulling back on the upper freq stuff a little Try dialing back the distortion a touch (whether it is a pedal or gain on the amp etc). One other detail is yours is a little more in your face like it is being compressed a little...or the original has a spot of reverb...hard to know...but yours is a little more upfront if that makes sense. Just my opinion...otherwise it sounds good!

I often wonder when a good, solid player goes from a POD to AXE-FX or Kemper is the difference really that noticeable? No matter what I play through I sound like "me"....sounds dumb, but my point is I have been playing since the invention of dirt. I gig regularly, have my POD dialed in, it sounds great. However, there is a little part of my brain that wonders would a Kemper or AXE-FX sound that much better? If so, how much, 10%? 20%? It certainly won't make me a better player (although some argue you can be inspired by gear). I still will sound like me. I think part of my problem is I get a little bored and want to try something new. I am hoping Line 6 comes out with a new fangled HD type pedal board. Why? because their price point is HIGHLY competitive, their stuff does sound great. It will remedy a little bit of my boredom with the product. BTW, my boredom comment is not a dig at Line 6 at all...it is like buying a car...they are great for N number of years and then you want something new...even though the car is fine.

Thought some of you might find this helpful. Thanks Line6!!

Very nice...thanks! -
Hey JTSC777 you seem to have a lot of bases covered musically. Do you have any videos of you guys doing stuff? I would love to hear how you sound live etc. using the methods you describe in various threads. Thanks, Rick

Wow, excellent job. Great chops, production, etc...Line 6 should pay you to produce a few vids for them...thanks!

Thank you for all the replies! I appreciate it...

Hi All, I am just being a little paranoid...so can anyone confirm that after the firmware upgrade that their existing patches sound the same? It may seem like an odd thing to worry about but my current patches are dialed in for what I am doing at the moment and I gig fairly regularly so it is important my patches are the same after the upgrade. I know this is subjective to some level but just making sure there is nothing crazy going on. As a software guy by day when things are different they are not the same... Thank you line 6 for the upgrade path!!! thanks, Rick

wow they sound quite 80s...

All good advice... I go with the XLR outputs to the mixer (option #2 as Palico suggested). It sounds fantastic...going XLR gives you some noise cancelling as well if the runs to the mixer are long. If you have stereo effects and such it sounds pretty great... We also use in ears. Honestly as much as I love amps and all that, showing up with my guitar and POD and in ears is a really nice way to go...
-
To my ears it would be unusable live as is. I agree though with some massaging it might be pretty cool. The fizziness...is tough to overlook. Thanks for posting...nice to hear it as is...

Under the amp deep editing settings there is a maple / rosewood neck switch and string gauge selector and what ever you do don't forget the right-handed, left-handed guitar switch as well. You have no chance of getting good tone unless you use these. :D Joking aside, you'll need to fiddle with settings...no magic settings. Best, Rick

Thanks for posting the updated patch!

Sounds Great! So this is the patch you previously posted but has since been tweaked a bit?

I play with both XLRs and it sounds great...not to sound like a PITA but why not buy another XLR...they are not that expensive and the stereo effect depending on how your signal chains are configured can sound pretty cool. Maybe you don't have enough inputs on the mixer? I am trying to understand why you would be locked into a single XLR. I have a direct box in my case that I can connect to the 1/4 output if I have to play mono....but using 2 XLRs is pretty great.

Never. Not once.

I think some people take a way too serious sense of pride in how hard it may be to get a good tone. In other words, the presets could never be good enough in a HD500, AMPLIFi is for plug in play newbies, how good can it be? I haven't lamented over every setting so it must be for beginners? The AMPLIFi doesn't have a sag knob it must suck...kinda mentality. If it sounds good, it is good. I think they are both nice products. I am a geek type and love twiddling knobs and working at the tone so I own a HD500, but that doesn't mean AMPLIFi is not an incredibly viable product. Will it replace the HD series as the flagship? Highly unlikely. Line 6 has made it pretty clear the audience for this product. With that said, cash is king so regardless what we think is the best move, line6/Yamaha is the one driving the boat and paying the bills. Some of the greatest records (think CD but much bigger, analog, if you turn it by hand real fast it sounds like chipmunks) were made with tools much more simple than either product.

TI99 !!!! My brother still has his sitting in a box somewhere. I think playing an instrument is an investment if it brings you or others any sense of satisfaction. Not having to lug heavy stuff is a win too. However, from a financial perspective having played with my HD500 out several times it has easily paid for itself umpteen times over...so I *guess* it is an investment. Basically, I view pedal boards and guitars as tools. The HD500's are excellent tools, for both professional and personal means. As I have said in other posts, the real investment is in your craft...being the best guitarist you care to be by practicing, listening to others, becoming proficient regardless of your pedal board, string gauge, and color strap you use...the other stuff (pedal boards, stomp boxes, guitars) is just icing on the cake...a great or even competent player makes everything sound good. I am an old dog too...so this stuff is all great to me. I think the HD500 is great. The "X" must be better it has 20% more processing power. :P

Do your labels glow in the dark? Are you only considering the HD500x or the HD500 as well? They look nice. Rick
