What matters is what it sounds like to you. There's no right or wrong. Given your skepticism about opinions you're reading I think the best way for you to decide is to buy the HX Stomp, test things out for yourself, and return it if you don't like it. What you'll get in response here will likely fall into two camps: It's not OK to run through a standard amp (the majority), and it is OK to do so (a minority). From what you've said you're going to disagree with the former and agree with the latter - but you won't have any personal experience to base your decision on. So get your experience.

Hmmm... I guess you should wait for other opinions on this. I'm not 100% sure. I'm surprised that you were able to update JTV firmware using the X3. But it's been a while and my knowledge and/or memory may be faulty. My understanding is that the JTV series is only backwards compatible as far as the POD HD500X in terms of supporting Workbench HD as an interface device. Prior devices can work to some degree but are not fully compatible and not supported.

Right - I was referring to the Sonic Port VX. Sorry for any confusion. -

Perhaps because it also works with Mac and PC computers? -

Well, that depends on whether the iOS components perform as specified. My understanding, from this Line 6 update, is that the issue lies with Apple. -
No. Completely different platforms.

New version of Stagescape
silverhead replied to angelomartinez1's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I don't think there will be a new StageScape under that name. You will find new Yamaha products, under their brand, that integrates any technology that Yamaha found useful. I think that in the speaker/mixer arena Yamaha chose to eliminate a competitor rather than continue the Line 6-branded product lines. Check out the new Yamaha mixers and play Where's Waldo. -
I presume you're referring to the layout shown in the screenshot in your initial post. There's no right or wrong in FX positioning - whatever sounds good to you IS good. However there are some common guidelines and your layout seems to follow the more important ones so, yes, I'd say your layout is 'decent'. A couple of observations: - as described in the responses to your post the IR and Cab blocks are generally mutually exclusive options; you use one or the other. I notice in your layout that they are positioned in different locations in the signal chain. You have placed FX between the amp and IR but not between the amp and cab. There's nothing wrong with that but the difference in the resulting sound now has two components - not only the difference between cab and IR but also the differences due to the relative FX locations. - you have two reverb blocks. Again, only one is generally used at any time. I assume the reverbs are associated with their adjacent cab and IR blocks and are turned on/off along with the cab/IR selection.

Used JTV-59 Landmines?
silverhead replied to pinksghope's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Well, they are valuable on their own and are likely resold. Used JTV-59 Landmines?
silverhead replied to pinksghope's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The answers, in order, are: - some early models had issues with the 3-way switch. Mine was fine. Line 6 will take care of it in any case. - no upgrades to electronics - all updates are available to anyone. It's wise to register the guitar in your Line 6 account. Line 6 will help if you have difficulties (e.g. already registered in previous owner's account) - the factory version comes with jumbo-size frets. Easy to replace if you want, either yourself if you're experienced in doing so or by a good guitar tech. -
The Updater program will not work with HX Edit running, but it usually doesn't even start up much less get to the point of ' update in progress'.

What firmware version are you updating from?
-
The answer to both your questions is yes. However while you can run the cab and IR simultaneously without issues (your actual question) you probably won't like the sound. Generally it isn't done. You can assign the same FS to control the Bypass (on/off state) for both the IR and the cab blocks. Then save the preset with one block on and the other off. The FS will then act as a toggle so that you can one or the other, not both, active at any time. You speak of the room and hall delay FX. Those are typically types of Reverb, not Delay, FX. You should find them both under the Legacy Reverb section.

The global setting for preset mode is completely independent of any preset data. Resetting the mode from Stomp/Snap to 8 Snap will not affect anything other than how the scribble strips and footswitches operate. In order to return to the previous display/operations all you have to do is reset the global setting. Everything will be as it was. It's perfectly fine to design presets for some gigs in one mode nad design presets for another gig in another mode. All you have to do is select the desired global setting as you start the gig.

Yes - that's right. I have several presets where I switch from electric to acoustic tones (including the guitar type using a Variax) using just an expression pedal, without even using snapshots. Toe position is a Marshall amp and Les Paul tone while heel position is no amp with a Gibson acoustic. Works great for the Joe Walsh tune Life's Been Good To Me. It's probably easier to do this with snapshots but I copied and edited my preset based on a tone developed by Line 6 user Peter Hamm. I believe the tone of his that I started with was this one, available on Customtone: https://line6.com/customtone/tone/209351/

I suggest you download and read the manuals for each product to get a better sense of how they would meet your needs and preferences. The HX Stomp manual is here: https://line6.com/data/6/0a020a4010c935bb66a4c0c44f/application/pdf/HX Stomp Manual - English .pdf Page 10 gives a good overview of how to use the footswitches (no bending down) to navigate among presets.

Make sure you are using compatible versions of Helix firmware and HX Edit software. Also make sure the driver is installed. Since the Helix is new to you check that the firmware is up to date.

Ooops.... my bad. Thanks for the correction, hurghanico. Sorry for the misinformation. tonee132.

You could adjust your global footswitch settings so that the display is 8 presets, meaning you no longer have to hit the Bank button to make the presets appear. Then you would only have to hit one footswitch to select one of the currently visible 8. The trade-off for this is that you would have to hit the MODE footswitch to make other footswitch assignments appear (stomps, snapshots). CHeck out the options forfootswitch display settings and choose the one that works best for you. The other way to do it is via an external MIDI controller.
-
You're right - there's really no point in doing that unless you want two presets with the same snapshots in a different order. It was just an example of something that could be done - useful or not. That's why I said "If you actually want the target preset to exactly match the source preset...." . I think I was trying to drive home the point that it makes no useful sense to copy/paste snapshots between presets. Perhaps a bad example.
-
Not sure what didn’t work. If you copied/pasted the preset first then copied/pasted a snapshot within the newly pasted preset (which is what I suggested), that should work. But if you copied the snapshot from the original preset then it still won’t paste into the newly copied preset even though they are identical. Helix doesn’t bother comparing the two presets- it just refuses the paste.
-
You can't copy/paste snapshots between presets. Each snapshot exists within a single preset defined by its blocks, signal paths, and routing. Consider the target/destination preset of your attempt to paste a snapshot. In your case, compare preset 1D to 4B. 4B is almost certainly different from 1D in terms of blocks. Hence the source snapshot doesn't 'fit' the target and can't be pasted into it. If you actually want the target preset to exactly match the source preset, then copy/paste the source preset (not snapshot) 1D to 4B first and then copy/paste the snapshot within 4B.

Two things to check: - looper playback level. If this is less than 100% it will sound a bit different just due to the volume level change. - looper record speed and mono/stereo. These settings can also affect the playback sound. For best comparison to guitar input use full speed mono.
