  1. No. If your Helix is running firmware v2.71 you need the HX Edit v2.7x program. I'm not sure what you mean by the 'new' PC application. HX Edit v2.7x and v2.8x are identical in form and function except for the changes to the firmware update. They don't look or operate any differently.
  2. The Variax Standard is a model of Variax guitars introduced post-JTV. It's not a range; it's a specific model.
  3. Is this happening with all presets? Try building a new preset from scratch, one block at a time, to replicate (including all block parameter settings) a preset that is problematic. After adding each block test the XLR output to try to identify the block/structure that is causing the problem. Ther may be a split/merge block that is routing the signal in an unexpected manner.
  4. Sorry for my lame attempt at humour. Your request is legitimate and I hope someone can help.
  5. Yeah - that tone is too close to Message in a Bottle. And we all know that Helix is incapable of reproducing that tone. ;-)
  6. Check your Input block. Every firmware installation resets global settings to their default values. This includes resetting the Variax Control option to Global. Try resetting this to Per Preset.
  7. When you connect Helix to your PC via usb, and headphones to Helix, you should hear both Helix and PC audio. If you can't hear your PC check the PC audio volume control; that's how you control/mix the audio levels.
  8. Why not just plug your headphones into Helix? That's the usual setup and will achieve what you want.
  9. The Variax Standard is a more recent model than the JTV and is, in fact, fully compatible with Helix. As Honest Opnion noted above this is clearly stated in the Helix manual.
  10. The oldest HX compatible Variax is the JTV series.
  11. Btw....The version of HX Edit you need to create the backup will match the version of firmware installed on your Helix device. Download and install that version of HX Edit first then follow the instructions.
  12. You can avoid reading and following the posted instructions, and someone may be willing to try 'cut through' things for you. But if you read the many threads posted here by people who didn't follow the instructions you can predict what will happen. You'll likely be back here with questions about recovering from a failed update. The latest such thread is here: I strongly suggest you read and follow the instructions. But here's my summary for you: 1) Create a backup. 2) Update the associated software components, including the firmware. 3) Restore the backup. If you need more details you know what to do.
  13. The fact that HX Edit presents the vertical list with 1A at the top and 32D at the bottom creates an image in your mind, one that suggest the ^ arrow should move to the higher preset in the list. However, that order is arbitrary - the list could just as easily have been presented in reverse order in HX Edit, which would make the arrow behaviour match the visual image. Arguably, that should have been done. The Helix device itself does not use a simple list; it uses an organizing model of a 32x4 array and the ^ arrow progresses through the array in a left-to-right top-to-bottom approach. I do 't think there is a'right' order. Six of one and half a dozen of the other. It's easy to get used to, and the Global Setting lets you choose your preference.
  14. Here's the official Line 6 statement: Personally I use the Apple products and have never had a problem.
  15. Open a support ticket here: https://line6.com/account/tickets/view To roll back to 2.80: - backup any presets/setlists you have changed in v2.81. I don't think you need to create a new backup file - you've said you already have it. - download and install the HX Edit v2.80 package. - run the just-installed Line 6 Updater program. - restore any presets/setlists.
  16. After it 'freezes', can you use the setlist/preset knob or the Mode button to switch presets (e.g. back to a stock preset)? This will at least prevent you from having to turn it off/on again.
  17. Please describe exactly how the snapshots are misbehaving.
  18. I would open a support ticket. Keep a copy of your backup file that does not restore properly - Line 6 may want to see it.
  19. Does this snapshot misbehaviour happen on all presets, or just some? Did you build all the affected presets from scratch yourself or did they come from some 3rd party?
  20. I've scanned through this post and I might be missing it, but.... The OP mentions "jumping in and checking all the presets..." (by which I expect he means factory presets) and also mentions using IRs. Afaik all of the factory presets use stock cabs. Nobody seems to have mentioned the possibility that the OP has simply added an IR to a preset that is already using a stock cab. If this is the case then I would expect the sound to be horrible. Use either a stock cab OR an IR - not both.
  21. Line 6 has not removed any amps, cabs, or FX in Helix since it was launched. These things are only added, not removed. Factory presets, however, can and do change often with a new firmware release. Line 6 does not publish factory presets separately; they are embedded in the firmware. Hence the only way to get earlier factory presets officially is to roll back the firmware and do a factory reset. Individual users sometimes save factory presets from each firmware version as separate setlists. Maybe one of those users will see this post and be willing to help you out. Otherwise the only way is successive rollbacks as you describe.
  22. I have no experience with IEMs but perhaps others can chime in here. In any case, I'm sure you can examine what your guitarist is doing with the HD500X and mimic it in Helix. If you have trouble with that you can post a detailed description of what he is doing (connections, monitor, etc...) and get help to mimic it. For instance, if he is taking a stereo mix feed from FOH (e.g. from a MON output on the mixer) and feeding it into the cd/mp3 input you can do the same using the Helix Return 1/2 inputs. In the HD500X the cd/mp3 input is routed directly to the outputs without any processing. In Helix you will have to set up Path B with Return 1/2 as the input, with no processing blocks on the path. I expect you'll need to make sure this path is not fed to the same output that your Helix uses to feed the FOH snake; otherwise you'll be feeding the mixer outputs (the mix with the rest of the band) back into its inputs possibly creating a feedback loop. How is your other guitarist handling that with his HD500X? How is your guitarist monitoring the HD500X (since he's presumably not using the IEMs that everyone else is using). Headphones? Will you do the same? Are the IEMs working for the other band members? Are you all happy using different monitoring systems? As you see I have more questions than answers. It just seems to me like a strange thing to be doing.
  23. I'm having trouble understanding your need to do this. I understand the words - just not the concept. Helix is not designed for that. While it has excellent routing capabilities it's a signal processor - not a mixer. Helix accepts input signals from one or more sources, applies DSP to the signal, and routes the processed output signal(s) to one or more monitor or mixer devices. Presumably your other sound sources (instruments and vocals) are already being fed to FOH through the snake. I can't see the need or benefit to connect them to Helix instead, or additionally. Are you not already using stage monitors fed back by the FOH mix whereby you can hear the mix of the entire band? If so, why do you want Helix to do that too? If not, what are you now using on stage to monitor the mix? What am I missing in your question?
