I'll try to answer your questions, but in reverse order: 3) The Toe Switch is at the toe position of the pedal. You are right that it is activated by pushing the pedal to its full toe position, but then you need to press really hard at first (really hard!) to activate the switch. Once it gets broken in a bit it will get easier to activate but initially you need to really use your full body weight - you can't do it while sitting down. Stand up and press hard - you won't damage it. 2) When you activate the toe switch successfully as above you will see the EXP1 and EXP2 lights toggling on/off with each press of the switch. This is how you manually switch between them. 1) From the Signal Flow View, select the FX or Amp Block that you want assigned to one of your footswitches. Then Press and hold the ENTER button to display the Footswitch Assign screen. Use Multi-function Knob 1 to select the footswitch to which you want this FX Block assigned - choose FS1 through FS8, the EXP Toe Switch, or None to remove the Block’s assignment. (See Advanced Guide pages 3-11 and 3-12.) To set up a preset using the Wah FX, you should: - Select the Wah FX and position it in your signal chain (normally pre-amp). The Position parameter for the Wah is automatically assigned to EXP1. Check that the pedal is set to EXP1. If necessary, use Toe Switch to set it. - Check that the Wah FX is ON, and that the pedal is controlling its position as desired. If necessary, manually turn the Wah FX ON (with the Enter key in Signal Flow View or in HD Edit). - Assign the Wah FX to the EXP Toe Switch. Check that the Toe Switch turns it On and Off as desired. - Save the preset with the WAH FX either On or Off, depending on what you want its state to be when you recall the preset.

I also think it sounds like a defective unit. I would return/replace it.

Sorry - can't have it both ways. When the Looper is in PRE position, it records the dry (unprocessed) signal. Then during playback all processing (amp, FX, tone stack, ...) of the preset is applied to the recorded signal. When the Looper is in POST position, it records the fully processed signal, including all processing (amp, FX, tone stack, ...) of the preset. Then during playback no further processing is applied to the recorded signal.

Are you using the HD500 Looper, or are you recording to a computer? If you are using the Looper place it in POST position.

<p>Yeah - the noise gate is kind of hidden in the Edit section of the HD device. However, it is much more accessible using the computer-based editor (HD300 Edit). It's in the bottom section of every preset window, along with Reverb, Vol, and Wah.

The HD300 and 400 both have a selection of compressors and a noise gate. The compressors are bundled into the FX1 group; one at a time is selectable. The noise gate is not bundled into an FX group; it is separately assignable in all presets.

I agree with BigChas52. The dry signals from the X3L over USB to Cubase are Input 7 (Tone 1) and Input 8 (Tone 2). Record these signals into mono tracks in Cubase. While recording, use the X3L to monitor the wet (processed) signal using whatever preset you wish - the processed sound is not being recorded. After recording, if you wish you can use Gearbox to transfer the X3L preset into the Pod Farm 2.5 tones folder on your computer so that you can use this preset as your starting point for tweaking the sound in Pod Farm 2.5.

That really sucks...... but look on the bright side - I bet you will save your setlists/presets more frequently from now on.

When you press the Send Setlist button in the HD Edit program, the contents of the selected Setlist in HD Edit (presets and Setlist Name) are sent to the HD device, overwriting the existing contents of the HD device. That means the presets stored in the device are replaced by the presets currently stored in the HD Edit program memory on your computer. There is no recovery from that operation if performed mistakenly unless you have a backup of the Setlist that was stored in the HD device prior to performing the SEND command. Carefully check the presets (not just the Setlist Name) in the setlist on your HD device. It's possible that a change in the Setlist Name can make you think that the presets have disappeared when in fact they have not.

Thanks to stumblinman, TheRealZap and Triryche for clarifying my mis-speak. I was referring to expressing our personal opinions. We are indeed under NDA re: non-public product information, and that is a specific gag order.

There are no gag orders. We can (and do) say what we want - including saying (for the hundredth time) that there are no gag orders. Of course, saying it repeatedly doesn't make anyone believe it if they'd rather not. The reason I am not often critical of Line 6 is that, as a user, I generally find their products to be excellent value, and their customer service to be admirable. There are exceptions - and when I think being publically critical is helpful then I do/will criticize. I also know that some users have had bad customer service experiences, and they are right to criticize. I (and other Expert Users) frequently work with Line 6 behind the scenes to do what we can to make sure these service deficiencies (the actually legitimate complaints - some aren't) are resolved.

I don't think you are missing anything simple (or, if so, I am missing it too). I haven't really found a good way to get consistent string windings on my JTV-59. As you note, you seem to need too many hands. As a result I often have strings with too many or too few winds.

Using the VDI cable with VARIAX Input selected (whether as Input 1 and/or Input2) the VDI connection sends the selected mode/model that the Variax guitar is set at. In other words, it will send the model that is selected, or the mag pickups if model selection is off in your Variax. However, if your HD500 Input is set to Variax Mags it will receive the mag pickups signal from the Variax even if the Variax itself is set to a model. This way you can blend a Variax Model selection with the Variax Mags in your HD500 processing by setting Ihnput1=Variax and Input2=Variax Mags.

You can do that now. Just use two identical presets with different gain settings. (Does anyone really need 512 presets at one time?)

That error message/code indicates an issue with the usb connection. Try all usb ports on your computer. Avoid using any usb hubs. Make sure Reaper is configured to use the HD500 and its ASIO driver as the audio device. Also, to avoid potential usb communication conflicts it is best not to use HD500 Edit while running Reaper.

It really doesn't matter which firmware version is installed now because it will soon be outdated. Line 6 has announced a pending firmware update so you will want to use a computer to update soon anyway. Best prepare for that, and in the meantime use the computer to find out what firmware version is currently installed.

The Pod XT is not a dual-path/tone device so the above possible explanation is not relevant. I have no explanation for why you hear some 'leak' of the standard-tuning string(s) through your monitors/headphones but not your recording. In the XT Live, the same signal that you hear via headphones is (or should be) passed via usb for recording.

Try closing Cubase and removing the Cubase dongle while using HD Edit.

Then I don't understand why it is not also in your recording. Sorry - can't help you further. .... unless.... what is your JTV connected to? Is it possible that you are using a Pod HD500/Pro/Desktop, and working with a dual-path preset that includes the JTV Mag pickups as one Input, the JTV Model as the other Input, and recording only the JTV Model path?

You can even use Gearbox to save the preset from the X3 to the Pod Farm preset folder on your computer. That way you can call up the X3 preset in Pod Farm without having to recreate settings.

I suspect this is a problem with your computer environment rather than a problem with the HD Edit program or the Line 6 drivers. I expect there may be a conflict with another usb device, perhaps your Emu404. I would suggest temporarily removing/disconnecting all other usb devices (except mouse/keyboard) for a test period. Use only the HD Edit program (not your Emu/DAW) for the test.

Is this dependent at all on whether or not your HD500 preset uses the Full amp model (including cab/mic sims) or just the Preamp model? I tend to use the L3t in PA/Reference mode and I use Full amp models almost exclusively. Should expect better results if I switch the L3t to Electric Guitar mode? (Not that there's anything wrong with the results I'm getting now.)
