I don't think there is anything wrong with your device. There is a significant difference between Studio and Live modes. Switching to Live mode removes the mic/cab modeling from your tone. The actual amp you are connecting to will provide these tonal characteristics, and they will almost certainly be very different from the simulated tonality that was removed. The quality and characteristics of the amp you are using will have a lot to do with the tone you hear. Yes - if you plan to use an amp in Live mode.you should be tweaking your tones in Live mode using that amp, and at the volume you will be using when playing live. Some players maintain different Setlists depending on whether they will be connecting directly to the PA or to an amp.

Hd500 Vdi Doesn't Regcognise When My Jtv 69 Is Connected
silverhead replied to sringsmoker79's topic in POD HD
Do you have VARIAX selected as one of your Inputs for the HD500 preset? If so, please give more details about your setup. What do you mean when you say the HD500 doesn't 'recognise' the connection? What are you expecting in terms of recognition? -
Check the On/Off switch on the device; it may be loose. Otherwise you can try to reflash the memory after powering up in Safe Mode. Read the last Question in this document first...... http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-4698 Failing that your X3 needs servicing: http://line6.com/service_centers/

The X3 forum is here: http://line6.com/support/forum/19-pod-x3/

This is often caused by a failed power supply. If you can try a different one with the EXACT SAME specs it may work. Here is the correct PSU: https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0042-05

Pod Hd400 And Cubase General Help
silverhead replied to VaMoose's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Not with reliable results. The reason is that the HD400 is an ASIO-compliant device, and the ASIO protocol dictates that the same audio device be used as the input and output device. There are non-compliant so-called ASIO drivers (e.g. ASIO4ALL) that will permit this, but these drivers are known to cause problems with ASIO-compliant devices such as the Pods. -
The recording program should detect that the Pod is connected and should begin to use it. If not you may have to configure the program (its audio system settings) to use the Pod and its ASIO driver as the audio device. The Pod becomes your computer's soundcard, which means you need to connect your speakers/monitors to the Pod's audio outputs. You do not need to use Pod HD Edit while recording. In fact you probably shouldn't because that can lead to confusion and communication breakdowns over usb among the recording program, the editor, and the Pod device. You should set the Pod output mode to Studio and the Line/Amp switch to Line.

There is no firmware v2.21 for the Pod HD. That version number exists for Pod HD Edit. They are two different software products whose version numbers are not necessarily synchronized.

Vdi Cable And Unwanted High Pitch Tone
silverhead replied to afberglund's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Try a different VDI cable (or temporarily, and carefully, use a standard Ethernet/network cable). Try using the 1/4" output of the JTV (I presume that's what you are connecting via VDI). In either case, does the problem persist? -
Connect your HD500 to your computer via usb. Launch your audio recording program. Start using it to record your music. If you don't know what I mean by 'audio recording program' then the place to start is to google that phrase.
-
Please confirm that your guitar is set as the input to Tone 1 on the X3. The tuner only picks up the Tone 1 input.
-
I don't think you can use the HD500 usb connection as the audio interface and also use a second audio interface (for the s/pdif). The HD500 uses ASIO and I'm pretty sure the ASIO protocol requires that it be the only audio interface in use at any one time. Some non-compliant so-called ASIO interfaces (like ASIO4ALL) will permit you to use additional device(s) but they are known to cause problems with true ASIO devices like Line 6 products.

Setups And Scenes
silverhead replied to Digital-sound's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
I think of the three things this way, in terms of performance rather than technicals: - a Setup defines the band/group of performers and their instruments. This corresponds to physical inputs. - a Scene refers to the full set of FX and parameter settings for each group member (physical input) at different times during the performance - another metaphor would be a 'Song'. In other words, as the band plays different songs during the performance the band members as a group can change their settings for different songs. The instantaneous 'snapshot' of all settings for a song is the Scene - it is a specific instance of settings within the Setup. - a Channel Preset (the strip of presets along the bottom of the display in Setup view) defines a specific set of FX and parameters that are assigned to a single physical Channel Input at any point in time So a preset defines a single setting for a single instrument/mic. A Scene is a named set of settings for all current physical inputs. A Setup is a named specification of the physical inputs. A Setup can contain many Scenes. A Scene can contain many Presets. A Preset contains a set of FX and their parameters. -
Yes. Here is a preset I created some time ago to do exactly this: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/217206

Yes. That's because the X3 becomes your soundcard, meaning the playback of sound from your computer is directed to the X3; if your speakers remain connected to your computer (its internal soundcard) you will no longer hear sound from your computer. By connecting your speakers to the X3 outputs you will be bale to hear the sound generated by your computer.

Jtv-59 Open Tunings
silverhead replied to sidblevins's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You may simply be hearing the vibration/pitch of the natural string resonance. Try recording a sample of the sound, or wear closed-back headphones through the HD500 while playing. Both of those techniques shopuld allow you to hear only the output of the JTV - the natural string vibration will not be recorded, and will be inhibited by the headphones. If you still hear the dissonance in a playback of the recording, then there is a problem to investigate. If you don't hear it in the recording then you can be sure your audience won't hear it either. -
Yes, moondancer, you're right - sorry for the misinformation. I wasn't thinking of that in this situation because Shaamaan wants to use the JTV mag pickups without draining the battery, so that means the Vol can't be set to zero and he can't use the sleep option. But you're right - this is an option in most cases (e.g. taking a break) when you want to interrupt playing without unplugging. Thanks for the clarification. Also - some people have reported that they don't see much difference in battery drainage when in sleep mode vs. active mode; apparently there's not much saving of battery life. So I think the most effective thing to save battery life is to unplug.
-
The battery is being used (drained) whenever there is a cord/plug in the 1/4" connector jack. That plug acts as the power switch on the JTV, and it is "ON" (using battery charge) whether the modeling is being used or not. It's like powering your computer on with the battery then walking away from the computer - the computer is still using its battery to patiently listen for any commands. Your computer has a 'sleep' setting that you can use to let it rest when you are not there for a while. The JTV has no such sleep mode or setting; it is either on (cable plugged in) or off (cable disconnected). Like any battery it has a shelf life - it will eventually discharge even when disconnected for a long period of time. If you want to use only the magnetic pickups of the JTV and don't want to drain the battery, just remove the battery.
-
I'm not arguing for or against using the editor here, but I just want to point out the way to reload old values - use the RECEIVE SELECTED command. That will reload the preset(s) from the HD500 memory into the editor, overwriting the preset memory space in the editor program with the old (most recently saved) values.

The Pod HD Pro has additional I/O capabilities compared to the HD500.

Well, then - sorry for the misinformation. I guess I never tried to do that. -
Strings E And B -acustic12 Strings
silverhead replied to guilhordas's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Yes - you can do that. For authenticity, as thorneven has said, do not add the octave on the high E and B strings. Just double them at the same pitch. -
Quick Question: Lincoln Brewster Patches For 400hd?
silverhead replied to Jeepjones85's topic in POD HD
HD500 patches will work with the HD300/400 to the extent that the patch remains compatible with the capabilities of the lower models. For instance - HD500 dual path patches can't be used in the 300/400. There is a patch converter utility that will help you with the file conversions.
