EP Booster / Helix Echoplex?

Hi,

I wanted to find out if the listed Helix echoplex effect can be used exactly (and have similar tone shaping effect) to the EP Booster or a real echoplex preamp section.

What I mean is can you switch the delay off and if so will is sounds the same as a preamp section of an echoplex?

Basically using it at the front of pedal chain as a boost (with its charistic tone) into the helix amp of choice.

And generally speaking, do "boosters" into helix amps have the same impact as on real amps?

Alternatively, would placing the EP booster pedal before the helix be the same as puting it before a real similar amp?

Advice much appreciated

Cheers,

Vinnyh

The Tape Delay aka echoplex does not have the preamp section and a booster pedal should have the same effect into the helix. I have use the Timmy overdrive and turn down the distortion to 1.5 and turn up the level. It gives you a pretty nice boost.

good luck

You can get what you want I think.

Use the Klon.

Gain all the way down, volume up, tone to taste. It does something REALLY similar to the EP booster.

I discovered this and now I have it on every patch.

I do the exact seme thing - I use this a lot with my strat. Especially in a JCM-800 Patch sounds killer.

Here is a short video how I set the parameters

I would be wary of using a real boost pedal in front of the Helix. If it overloads the A/D converter, it'll sound terrible.

Should be OK unless you really dealing with a really big boost. But there's quite a lot of headroom in the Helix. Heck, I've used real boost and distortion pedals in front of Line 6 devices going back to the POD 2.0.
