  1. I don't own an AXE FX, or any other Fractal Audio equipment. But to suggest that AXE FX owners are responsible for starving children in the world is about the most moronic thing I've ever read.
  2. Hey Antman74, If you are not in pedalboard mode, switching to a new patch would be one footswitch at a time, even though you did say "a patch". :) But you probably knew that already.
  3. I don't visit custom tone too often but these might be the amps from the new Model Packs. Have you tried any of them to see which amps come up in HD Edit?
  4. Thanks for sharing your first impressions. It might be "hellishly expensive", but if you are getting the tones you want, well... you only live once. All the best with your new gear. Cheers P.S. - Like nico said, if you have the time and inclination, I think it would be worth a listen to hear a comparison of your best attempt at tweaking the old vs the new gear for that tone you were looking for. Thanks!
  5. A post that is well structured, informative and interesting. I could read posts like this all day. Kudos Rewolf48.
  6. Decisions, decisions... Just get a part time job (or another part time job if you already have a few) and you can keep them all. The DXR12 has a lot of good reviews. Let us know if you get them and make me jealous of how good they sound. Cheers
  7. The following thread should give you an idea. HD500X Powered Speaker Recommendation The Global Studio/Direct setting in the POD should give you the best FRFR output you are looking for. That will require tweeking your existing patches of course.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. I'll be doing a little digging this weekend and I will post anything that might be of benefit to know. Once again, I really appreciated your original post.
  9. Hi Mike and Randy, I just got a new DT50 head, which I have plugged into a Jet City 333 4x12 cab, and was thinking about what you guys were saying here. So, I powered up and with nothing plugged in, this amp/cab gives me these readings with the free (not calibrated) Sound Meter app (ver. 1.6.1 by Smart Tools) for my Galaxy S5: The ambient room measurement in standby mode hovers around 30dB. With the phone touching the cover cloth I get these readings directly in front of the the top left speaker: I = 58 II = 65 III = 79 IV = 68 One foot away, directly in front of the the top left speaker, I get these readings: I = 48 II = 58 III = 74 IV = 62 Looks pretty similar. One additional question for either of you guys: In a thread called "DT50 question", some folks were wondering about the "PIV HI/LOW and TIGHT/SMOOTH switches" found using DTEdit. I quoted you Randy (I hope I quoted you correctly, post #16 in that thread) about the PIV circuit but I have not found any information about the TIGHT/SMOOTH switch. Do you guys have any insight as to how this switch actually works and how they are intended to be perceived? Thanks
  10. Absolutely correct. I was just giving an example that inventory can end up sitting in a store/warehouse for some time. That's what I thought cruisinon2 meant in his post. I didn't mean to imply that was the fault of Line6. On the contrary, I think well of Line6. I used to have a Variax 300 that I bought it used. The tone control didn't work so I called Line6 to see if I could get the part number so I could buy a new switch and replace it myself. Line6 sent me the part. I was not charged for the part or the shipping. That kind of response leaves an impression on you; a good one.
  11. According to a post by RPascarella on this forum, the DT50 uses a Long-Tailed Pair version of the Phase Inverter Voltage (PIV). According to Billy Penn: "Of all the circuits in a tube amplifier, the Phase Inverter, also known is the Phase Splitter, is the most difficult to understand by even some experienced techs. Its function is relatively simple: take a signal input, and create two outputs, one that is identical (e.g. in-phase) to the original, and another that is a mirror-image (phase-inverted or flipped phase)." The rest of this article can be read at http://www.300guitars.com/articles/article-demystifying-the-phase-inverter/ I can't find anything definitive on the TIGHT/SMOOTH switches and how they work but judging from experimenting yesterday I'm guessing it changes your tone from punchy and aggressive to soft and smooth. This is what I found yesterday but it was not really pronounced at relatively low volumes, at least with the amps I was tinkering with. This is one thing I would like to experiment with on the DT50 and DTEditOSX this weekend.
  12. That would be an interesting promotional to sell your stock. Drop the price in the store by $100 to use on the new models. I ended up asking for, and getting, 10% off my HD500X purchase. 50 bucks is 50 bucks.
  13. Seriously, I just bought a DT50 head and it had the 1.1 flash. It was made in Jan 2013. (Did I mention I bought it new?)
  14. Ahh, thanks nico. Plus one for you! I already gave Zap plus one for un-hiding my post.
  15. When you say feed, is that the "Notifications" drop down button to the left of my username? Cheers
  16. Hi all, I was replying to a thread and I realized I made an error in my post. I chose to hide it while I referenced a source and now I can't find how to un-hide it to make the change I wanted. How do I un-hide a post I made hidden? Thanks!
  17. I see you referenced meambobbo already. He posted "i am meambobbo and I approve this post!" on a thread started by perapera called "Pod Hd 500 - 500x *new* Routing Schematics". I had to read that tread a few times to understand the point perapera was making. I even read it the first time he posted it. His hand drawn schematics were difficult for me to decipher, but later posts in that thread had some nice and easy to understand pics of perapera's drawings. I believe his primary intention was for users to understand that using a mono effect in the pre section of the signal chain will result in a 6dB loss when using the input 1 = guitar, input 2 = variax. There is a lot more discussion in that thread that could be of value to you if you want to go through it all. It can get as complicated as you want it to be, but ultimately it's all about the tone you like with the tools you have in the POD HD, and there are many.
  18. If Line6 develops the new model packs for the DT amps (which would be awesome) and I already bought the amps for my HD500X, do you think the DTs would fall under this "4 active registered devices" deal? Is there a precedence for this in previous hardware? Thanks
  19. Wow, some really good ideas here. I really like the methodical way you're using to learn how each of the components effect the tones you can get. I also like the idea of switching between the channels and the variety of amps/cabs/mics etc. we have access to when switching between them. It's my understanding that when these parameters are set with DT Edit, they stay that way the next time we power up the amp. Even if we L6 Link to the HD500X and run through a bunch of patches, we can still come back to the amp later and just plug straight into the front of the amp and all those DT Edited amps are still there for us to use without the HD500X. I bought my HD500X before I bought the DT25s. When I first started playing through the DTs, it sounded like I got better tones plugging straight into the front of the amp as opposed to using the POD. After reading several posts on this forum, it turns out I didn't do a good job of creating my POD patches to match playing straight into the DT. I've got some patches pretty close but they still need work to match. Maybe it's my imagination, but I still think I get a better tone when I run from my guitar into the Ibanez TS9 I bought 30 years ago into the front of the amp compared to going guitar into the TS9 into the POD L6 linked to the DT25. I'm pretty sure I could pick out in a blind test my TS9 plugged into the POD vs the modeled TS9 in the POD. It's a really good model but not the same to my ears. I'm excited about exploring what you have started here. The only problem is it's finals week at work (I teach at a community college) and things get really busy at this time of the semester. I won't be able to do much experimenting till the weekend. I'll be back to post what I find out on my end. Thanks again for your latest updates!
  20. Very interesting and an eye opener for me. After reading the Colonel's post here, I had to plug my Taylor acoustic into the front of one of my DT25 amps and try the no amp setting with DT Edit just to hear what it would sound like. It sounded like a really good representation of the guitar without needing to mic up the guitar. The only drawback is that you have no front panel EQ control but that makes sense since you don't have an amp. The preamp (voicing) vs the poweramp (topology) is made somewhat clearer when you see (and experiment with) them in DT Edit. I was using Channel B in the picture below. Sure enough, like the Colonel said, the Boost makes a "noticeable impact". I found the smooth vs tight less significant to my ears. I could not really hear a difference with the PIV being low or high but I have some old ears so maybe the younger folks on this forum will hear a difference. There were some mild tonal changes when switching topologies I - IV found under the poweramp section. There were dramatic differences with the voicing topologies I - IV found under the preamp section. There was a large difference in volume between the Class A/Class A/B and Pentode/Triode settings as would be expected. Thanks Colonel for your post. I am going to send my recommendation to have you promoted to General.
  21. It is only being suggested as an option. No need to change anything if you like it the way it is.
  22. You might try the "Line 6 Acoustic" amp in the new HD Vintage pack.
  23. Yeah, my first inclination was to move up to the top of the list, which would be lower numbers and to move down to the bottom of the list, the higher numbers. If I knew of a way to change it, I would too. I don't write software but it seems like it could be a global option with a firmware update. Not a major thing but it would be nice.
