Here is the FRFR LXii 1u power amp...pretty cool. http://www.fryette.com/lxii-stereo-power-amp/

This may be fun and useful to other DIY IR guys without a big mic locker, or just those not aware of the IK plug in. This seems to work well for IR creation as well as "re-mic'ing" a recorded track. As I only have SM57, e609, and D112 mics for guitar cabs, I was intrigued by the IK Multimedia T-Racks Mic Room. This add-in will take a signal captured with a preset source mic and transform it to the characteristic of another "target" mic. Maybe this is how Amplitube gives you so many mic choices on every possible cab and speaker combination. Hopefully Line 6 doesn't do this and captures every cab with every mic, but I would understand if they did...it would be a huge time saver and consistency is gained ;) I captured a few SM57 IR's of my current stage rig, Mesa Recto 212 and Line 6 Spider Valve HD100, with a few on and off axis positions. I also re-processed the SS amp ones I did earlier this week and the Mesa Triple Recto power amp ones I did a while back. Then I took the SM57 2in distance, on axis, capture and re-processed it through all of the IK TR Mic Room mics. These include various condensers, ribbons, dynamics, etc. I tried a few others, but the 2in straight capture seemed to make the translation best. I couldn't tell you how true these are to the original mics. But they do offer a good variety of different mic types from a single SM57 capture, and they mix well together. I created a 3-mic mix of a my original dynamic capture, a Ribbon 160 and a Condenser 12 that is a good representation of my rig in the room. Below is a link to the Recto 212 IK TR Mic Room IR's. The mic type names are in the file names. These contain SS Amp, L6 SV Tube Amp, and Mesa Triple Recto Tube Amp, as well as some mixes. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6qheuliyysyypj6/AACqUjJoZ-uxHEduv9_I-RCHa?dl=0 Link to the v4 IR's...with a little Easter egg ;) https://www.dropbox.com/sh/suj0qejyvqj8m99/AABKyZ3e-P3XS852JdcHEe94a?dl=0

He had some kind words to say about Line 6 in the Pod HD Pro video :)

I thought this was an interesting video Fryette put together comparing a solid state power amp vs a neutral tube power amp into a traditional guitar cab with a modeller. He also demos the Valveulator tube input buffer which was interesting as well. I finally settled on continuing to use my Recto 212 cab with Helix (no cab/IR blocks) live. But I continue to bounce back and forth between a SS power amp and my Line 6 Spider Valve HD100, which I feel is very neutral with Helix, but just adds a bit better feel when playing.

Thanks. I'm running mono back to my amp and FOH anyway. Maybe I'll toss a mono volume block at the end of the path to merge the stereo signal. XLR and 1/4" Left output have cable sensing for the right connector and makes the signal mono if right is not present, but it sounds like Phones doesnt.
-
Is there any issue or risk to Helix with plugging a mono cable into the Helix Phones jack to run to my stage amp effects return? My Volume knob would control FOH volume and Phones would control stage volume.

Updating this thread with a better Piezofier IR, Helix Preset, and soundclip.

Are you looking for an acoustic guitar simulator effect for a mag pickup electric, an amp to run your acoustic guitar or piezo equipped electric into, or both? The Helix Preamp>Mic>Studio Tube Pre or Cali Bass amp work well with acoustic instruments for me, aloing with the LA Comp and 10 Band EQ's the guys mention above. Mag2Acoustic Piezofier IR I created will convert your mag pickups to a piezo-like signal for user with PeterHamm's and amsdenj's acoustic body type IR's. http://line6.com/support/topic/21868-acoustic-guitar-piezofier-ir-for-mag-pickups-posted-updated-72616/

Ah ha, I noticed cracking and popping in FL Studio as well. I don't have that in Sonar. Well done sir.

Very cool. Thanks for the results!

This makes a lot of sense. I think AT4 is has a parallel split post cab to their cab IR's/models into their room condenser mic IR's/models with maybe some delay/verb effects for distance and venue. You can mix and solo/mute all three mics, plus change the phasing. This was interesting. While AT4 cabs themselves may or may not be as "good" as HX Cabs and/or 3rd party IR's, I think they've nailed the room effect with the room mics and venues. You can hear this in the Helix Amp Into AT4 cab clips. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-at4-recto-412-plus-room https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-at4-engl-xxl-and-cab-room-mics https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-at4-engl-xxl-and-cab-room-mics-large-venue https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-plexi-brit-into-at4-red-pig-cab-plus-room?in=michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-into-at4-cab-room https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-caliiv-lead-at-recto-412-room?in=michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-into-at4-cab-room In Helix, I could see this materializing a couple of ways... A reverb block with various room reverbs created from condenser mic impulse responses and a mic distance adjustment from 0 to maybe 20+ft. This may be useful for more than cabs. A room mic on the HX cab blocks with mic type and distance and/or room type. I don't mind posting it up on IS. I'll let this stew for a couple of days before posting anything on IdeaScale. Any other input or ideas for the post? Anyone else (OP?) feel free to post it up.

Appologies, apparently this is now an obsession of mine and a great topic from the OP. Inspired by what is going on in AT4 Cab Room with the condenser room mics and venue (reverb) effects on them. I tried to replicate the AT4 Cab Room condenser room mics by splitting the path between a 412 Uber V30 Dual Cab block with two different close mics (D409 and R121) and a parallel Dual Cab block with C87 and C67 mics into Helix Chamber reverb. Sound clip https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-two-hx-dual-uber-v30-cabs-into-hx-chamber-verb Made a Playlist of all the sound clips from today's experiments. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-into-at4-cab-room Preset uploaded to CustomTone http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2243614/ I'm not sure how practical it really is to use this preset and 4-mic config. But it was fun and sounds good in headphones. It's kind of like a wet/dry patch with the wet effect (verb) only on the "room mics" cab block. Might work well with Firehawk 1500 and the appropriate outputs selected for each "Multi" path. PS: Now I'm kinda wishing we had Dual IR blocks like we have Dual Cab Blocks. I suppose they would only be 1024 samples per side. I guess I can mix down a pair of IR's for each single IR block in RW mixIR2. Soundcloud clip of Helix Fatality Into Friedman 212 Dual IRs RE20 Cab C414 Room Chamber Verb. The signal is split so that the RE20 IR is dry and the C414 is wet with Chamber Reverb simulating amp in room. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-friedman-212-dual-irs-re20-cab-c414-room-chamber-verb

Now if I could just wire my eardrums into my DAW (Neo's brain stem jack plate) I could IR my cab through them ;)

Impressive troubleshooting on the ASIO generic vs Helix drivers. I use mainly Sonar and Pro Tools, but I have FL Studio 12. I'm using Win10 on an Alienware x51 R2. I'll check it out on mine in the next couple of days. This may be a good one for the Helix Forum bug report thread. What version FL Studio are you running?

The new tuner top indicator has helped me on the low B and E strings on the bass. I previously felt like those were sometimes still out of tune slightly live right after I would tune up. +1 to harmonic tuning on the lower bass strings, in addition to open.

Ha, sorry. I promise I'll quit hijacking this thread. But to further demo bjnette's point... Helix Fatality amp into two parallel Studiocat Freidman 212 IR's into AT4 Cab Room with room mics and venue only. This should represent the Helix amp, a good pair of IR's, cascaded into AT4's U87 IR's and small studio reverb. A little DI of the Helix signal was mixed in. I was in headphones and actually had to look down at my room amp to see if it was on ;) Sorry, I couldn't find a way to just get the room mics with no reverb effect in AT4. Of course you can select bigger and smaller venues. But I think this demo's the point of adding virtual "room mics". Not sure if it's really necessary or desirable :) Baseline, No AT4 room https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-friedman-212-dual-ir-no-at4-room?in=michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-into-at4-cab-room Baseline + Helix Chamber Reverb 40% Mix https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-friedman-212-dual-ir-into-hx-chamber-verb-no-at4-room AT4 Booth Room https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-friedman-212-dual-ir-plus-at4-booth-room?in=michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-into-at4-cab-room AT4 Studio Room https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-fatality-into-friedman-212-dual-ir-plus-at4-room So to me, just a little mix of the Helix chamber reverb added after the IR's gave a good AIR feel without being too verby. I probably wouldn't have tried Chamber reverb if it wasn't for this thread, so thanks. Anyway, it was good fun and a nice break in the work day. Now back to your regularly scheduled discussions...

I totally agree this is a great acoustic setup. 10 band graphic, Studio Mic Pre, LA Compressor, and some effects are the basics in my Upright Bass and (real) Acoustic Guitar patches as well.

Funny you say that. I spent some time yesterday with Helix amps into Amplitube 4 cab room, which allows 2 mics on a cab (you can add another cab with 2 more mics if you wanted) and has a "stereo pair" of U87 room mics plus different environment types. It certainly did give an AIR representation. Pretty cool for jamming in headphones. Here are a couple of short clips of Helix Plexi Brit and Cali IV Lead into Amplitube 4 Cab room with the U87 on and a venue selected. Pardon the hack AC/DC and metalized 80's riffs ;) https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-into-at4-cab-room

As others mentioned above, dual cabs / IRs of the same cab with different mics plus a high cut in the 7k-12k range on the cab blocks helps me get closer to AIR sound, especially in headphones.
-
Kemper has something called Pure Cabinet to address this. Maybe the OP could use a little advice on how to get closer to this. Since it's a global setting to address "harsh upper frequencies" and "smoothing out problem frequencies", it sounds like a very specific global type eq function. That will have a "pronounced effect on crunchy and high gain rigs...clean rigs will not be affected". My first thought is high cuts to the 7k-10k range on the gainy amps. But the Kemper Pure Cab sounds like it's doing a bit more than that. So maybe someone with better ears than I can tell whats going on in the videos.

For my live patches, I posted a few final 3 mic mix IR (condenser, dynamic, and ribbon) that are really nailing the cab in room now. 10kHz High Cut on the Helix IR Block. I'll need to try them live with the band and see which sounds best in the mix. MesRec212_Mix_CDR1.wav MesRec212_Mix_CDR2.wav MesRec212_Mix_CDR3.wav

I personally ended up settling on an even parallel mix of MesRec212_SS_D5 and MesRec212_Tube_R1 with 10k High cuts on each for Helix XLR to FOH. This was closest to my amp in room sound through a JBL Eon 515XT, our PA speakers. I was using the Studiocat Friedman 2x12 - RE20_2 and Friedman 2x12 - SM57_2o. I do still really like Friedman IR's, and will likely still use them for recording.

Good to know about the Quilter. I'm good with the Mesa WB for now. It's actually kind of cool that it's still a Mesa head on the Mesa 212 cab, albeit a bass head.
-
Okay. The Crate PB was nice, but played Saturday with my Mesa Walkabout as a power amp. It felt and sounded a little warmer and less harsh. Plenty of cut though. Sucks that it doesn't fit in the Helix backpack, but I have a RokSak I use with it. Not too bad. I made some IR'S today using the solid state power section of the Mesa Walkabout and different mics and positions for my Helix XLR out path to FOH. I think I have a good, versitile and consistent stage and mains setup now. Gonna roll with this for a while.
