  1. I use these IR'S that I made of my Mesa Recto gear with my Helix Cali Rectifier amps (and others). They are NOT neutral, but still pretty flexible. I made them specifically for the Helix Cali Rectifier, but they work pretty well in other high gain amps, and now the Helix Fatality (modded Recto). I own a Mesa Triple Rectifier and Recto 212 and I was not getting that sound from the Helix cabs or neutral 3rd party IR's. I think there is an interaction between specific tube power amps and cabs that is missing in neutral IR's. It becomes more apparent to me on high gain sounds. There is one mix of all 3 mics that is my current personal fav...MesRec212_MTR_Mix_D1_D5_D6.wav Mesa Triple Rec amp and Recto 212 IR's folder. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yh4j0qcav86147p/AAA2n--cHUhoe35MIrG4-gxza?dl=0 Sound clip to compare the stock Helix Cali Rectifire factory Cali 412 cabs vs my Recto 212 MTR IR's. 2. Looks like IK is having a BOGO sale now too. You get to pick one of their software packs of equal value.
  3. Yeah. I own it and didn't care for it personally. Adjusting the high cut to about 8000 Hz makes it better IMO. Their Mesa Road King cab sounds better to me with the Helix Cali. But honestly I don't use that one either. You might also try the new Helix Fatality amp too. DI just confirmed that is is based on a modified Recto amp.
  4. Veil of mystery lifted, pay no attention to the Recto behind the curtain ;)
  5. I'm gonna go out in a limb here and say I think its a mod to the Cali IV lead. It sounds similar to Cali IV with a bit more edge. To me, it sounds a bit like my Mesa Mark V Extreme setting. It also works better with my Mesa Simul 290 and Mark V power section IRs than with my Stiletto (Marshally EL34) or Triple Rectifier power amp IRs.
  6. Ha, yeah. Bad timing for me to be posting stuff. I think I'm going to to separate IRs for the Amplitube 4 Acoustic Sim for the 3 top types and 3 body types for each for both the single coil setting and humbucker setting, 12 IRs total. We can put a body and top IR in parallel in Helix to give us similar functionality to AT4 AS. This would also enable us to separately eq (and other effects) the body and top IRs, which would be a step beyond the functionality of AT4 AS. I'll probably do some mixes too once I get the separates lined out.
  7. I posted an Acoustic Simulator IR made from the new Amplitube 4 acoustic simulator, which is similar in functionality to the Boss AC series. It works with electric mag pickups. The AT4 acoustic sim has 3 body types, 3 top types, and a single coil and humbucker setting. I'd like to get some user feedback on the one I made before going all out. It worked well on a gig for me this weekend. http://line6.com/support/topic/21537-th-irs-thursday-irs-bonus-acoustic-sim-v2-beta-ir-patch-and-sound-clip/?do=findComment&comment=163219
  8. Added sound clips to Soundcloud. A few sound clips of the factory Helix Cali Bass and Cali 400+ presets with my Mesa Powerhouse 212 + M9 amp or 400+ amp IR's. The horn IR's were captured along with the woofers. The horn IR's are placed in parallel with the woofer IR's in the IR preset versions. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-cali-bass-factory-cabs-vs-mesa-ph212-wooferhorn-irs
  9. Added a quick sound clip to compare the stock Helix Cali Rectifire factory cabs vs my Recto 212 MTR IR's. These were made with just the factory Cali Rectifire preset with stock cabs swapped out with my MesRec212_MTR_Mix_D1_D5_D6.wav IR. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-cali-rectifire-factory-cabs-vs-recto-212-mtr-ir
  10. Update - Soundclips added to Soundcloud comparing Cali IV, Fatality, and 2204 Mod with MesRec212_2ioaD_ST_EL34.wav https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-20-amps-irs In each of the clips, the Line 6 Factory Cabs are first. then the IR's. I am using the new factory presets that came with the 2.0 update and only replacing the cabs. Guitar is a PRS Singlecut Trem. The Cali IV and Fatality Amps are using my Mesa Recto 212 / Mesa Simul 290 IR. The Mesa Siml 290 is a stereo version of the Mark IV Simul-Class Power Section. The 2204 Mod is using my Mesa Recto 212 and Mesa Stiletto EL34 amp IR.
  11. It's the *.wav file in the Dropbox folder. Acoustic Sim v2 Beta.wav
  12. I uploaded a simple guitar loop clip of the Acoustic Sim Beta IR in an Acoustic Amp patch I built. https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-acoustic-sim-ir-and-patch-beta This is an Acoustic Sim IR I created for my PRS Singlecut Trem guitar magnetic humbuckers. The pickup selector is in the middle with both humbuckers active. The Helix preset is this IR, Cali Bass (Mesa M9) amp model with no cab, LA Comp Compressor, and Noise Gate. I change the Cali Bass voicing every 4 bars of the riff. 5 voicings total. If you haven't noticed, bass amps make great acoustic amps :)
  13. Oh sure, I'll post the IR creation presets up this weekend when I get back in front of my computer. There's not much to them, mainly signal routings.
  14. Thanks! The Matrix FR is certainly lust-worthy. I'm leaning toward a passive Mission Gemini 2-P myself.
  15. You know, that 200w stereo Roland combo might be a good candidate for Eminence Beta 12cx coaxial speakers with ASD1001 horn drivers and their 2.5kHz asymetric crossover. It would be about $300 for all. The Mission Gemini 2 FRFR powered cabs use them and are 110w per side. Xitone cabs also use them. A cheaper alternative seems to be the Eminence Beta 12lta with whizzer cone. It has a frequency range to 8kHz without a tweeter or crossover. $140 for a pair of these. I've seen a few Fractal and Kemper posts of people replacing gutar cab speakers with both of these. I was considering the Mission Gemini myself and went down the rabbit hole researching the speakers.
  16. If anyone has a little time, please give this Acoustic Sim v2 Beta.wav a spin. The IR level needs to be around 0db or less depending on your guitar and (bass) amp model you use. It was designed for humbucker pickups (used my PRS Singlecut Trem), but actually works okay with single coils with level tweaks. I have some ideas for a full pack, but need a little testing and feedback on this one first. These are sort of a PITA to make, but worth it. This Acoustic Sim IR and Amp patch may keep me from hacking my PRS to install piezos...for now anyway It tastes acoustic-y enough for live work I think. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qit1ak8fxp5kqad/AAA6BwuVgBjg8Wx7IV0MsmYta?dl=0 Update: Helix Acoustic Guitar and Amp preset built and MP3 clip added. Also posted clip to Soundcloud (Helix & PRS only, no DAW effects) https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-acoustic-sim-ir-and-patch-beta I tried to make the patch as dry as possible (10 band eq is off) so you can hear the basic sound. I left some space for reverb and effects of choice, as well as the looper for tweaking.
  17. If you are harsh across all of your clean and dirty sounds, I would go for maybe a 10kHz setting on the Global EQ, then adjust the cabs/IR's on the patches between 7-10kHz as needed. Personally, generally I like to keep my clean sounds higher at a higher High Cut and lower the High Cut to tame my dirty sounds. Rarely do I need to set a Low Cut except on some real synthy bass patches, or super heavy guitar patches using IR's. You might try adjusting the hihg-mids and highs on the global eq itself. If you get some time alone in the church, you can get an RTA analyzer app on your phone and run some pink noise through Helix and through the PA and adjust the Global EQ to tame the peaks. Of course, you can as pro as you want with reference mics and software too. Some church sound engineers are VERY savy with this, so you could maybe get some help there too. Check out this thread http://line6.com/support/topic/21316-adjust-your-global-eq-you-may-be-surprised/
  18. Try a 10kHz high cut for starters, then back it down. Anything lower than 7kHz starts to sound too dark to me. Unless you are boomy, low cut may not be necessary. A low cut at 70-80Hz wouldn't hurt anything for guitar though.
  19. I'll probably get bashed for this, especially in the shadow of such a great 2.00 update, but here goes... Posted to IdeaScale http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Non-Hybrid-Option-For-Helix-Cab-Blocks/830352-23508?submitted=1 Develop a Non-Hybrid option in the Helix Cab blocks to use the full impulse responses used to create the Helix Cabs, at higher processor penalty. I envision it would be similar to the way we can select 1024 & 2048 samples in the impulse response blocks. I feel compelled to ask this, knowing that Line 6 likely has full impulse responses of all of their mics and cabs, and many of us have shown that we are often willing to pay the 2048 sample IR processor penalty. 3rd party company IR's and capture / processing methods can really be that much better, if at all, than Line 6. And certainly no way that my hack IR's could be better. I know Line 6 would probably never release the original IR's, nor would we want to sift through them at the file level. As I go back and forth between IR's and Helix HX cabs, I really want to wrap my head around why I and others often prefer IR's. My general feel is that IR's are full and open and Helix cabs are boxy, especially in mid to high gain sounds. I think back to one of the first Line 6 Helix blog articles I read, Helix Hybrid Cabs and What The Heck Is An IR http://line6.com/helix/blog.html "For instance, in some modeling devices (Helix and the Fractal Axe FX, for example) the factory speaker cabinets are created using impulse responses." Maybe there is just a "Hybrid" blanket on some fantastic Line 6 IR's. I would certainly prefer to use the Helix Cabs. For functionality, they cant be beat.
  20. I used an AKG D112 mic on the bass cabs, (Dynamic 112 in Helix). I list the gear in the forum post and a readme text file I put with the IR's. There is something satisfying about IR'ing your own gear that you used prior to Helix. Helix amps don't feel quite as foreign to me with IR's of my Recto 2x12 and now bass 2x12 cab IR's. I think everyone with an interest should try it. And we all have great gear! I love the Line 6 amps, both tone and functionality. I can get all of my personal standard tones out of them. Putting your own gear IR's with them is like putting mom's gravy on them. It's just that familiar taste you grew up with that feels right...for better or worse...and no one makes gravy like mom ;) I use Helix, my PC DAW, Voxengo Deconvolver, and my mics and gear. Helix's all-in-one USB audio interface, USB MIDI control, routing capability, looper, AB pathing, cab & IR blocks, and just plain user interface makes IR creation for Helix amps incredibly efficient. I have everything on presets: "IR Setup", "IR Capture", "IR Test". I think those with a Mac and Logic with its all-in-one IR creation utility have it a little easier. Now if Helix had an IR utility, similar to Fractal's, I probably wouldn't even need to turn my computer on. I mean look at that beautiful screen, controls, capacitive footswitches, etc. It screams utilities and apps. I've watched the Fractal IR Utility video, that looks like working on a Nintendo Gameboy (self=dated). Oh, I guess Mac/PC utilities are fine too. But if it was all in Helix, I might be going to Guitar Center to "test out" some gear. The sales staff would come around every 5 mins "Are you finding everything okay sir, do you need anything"...to which I would reply "I'm fine, just bonding with the amp". If it's not in Helix, the scenario might be "sir, you've returned 20 cabinets in 30 days, you have reached your limit"...to which I would reply "okay, cash back would be fine" ;) I posted a request on IdeaScale a while back. It's In Review, so I'm not sure if you can vote on it. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Line-6-Helix-IR-Utility/813669-23508 I also have lots of pedals I don't want to part with as I see technology like BIAS FX giving users the ability to tone match, maybe even fully model them as well. I bet it's not long before one or more of these modelling companies puts the tools in the users hands and develops the software to do it as well as the hardware to put it on. BIAS does this fairly well with BIAS Amp & BIAS FX, but I would really like to see a company like Line 6 do it :) Dang, I think I'm standing on a soapbox now <stepping down slowly> ;) P.S. I think I just reached enlightenment with this post...it's #500 and made me a Gear Head...or is that Crack Head...hmm. Either way, the universe is speaking.
  21. Since you mention you are using Helix for bass, i just posted some Mesa bass IRs and a cool cab + DI Helix pathing method. http://line6.com/support/topic/21482-th-irs-ty-thursday-irs-mesa-bass-212-with-m9-and-400-amps/ I could certainly use a little user testing and feedback on them as they are my first bass IRs.
  22. I keep forgetting to post a link to the root IR folder with these incremental IR posts. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AADjdknZwdrze5VqaO7whHroa?dl=0 Ha I was just kidding with the chipping in thing. Although i think there are 3rd party dev kit ideas on Ideascale. I mean there are tons of us with great gear that would be happy to contribute if we had the tools. Not to mention maybe manufacturers and builders big and small being able to contribute as well. Oh well, I digress. The guy still has the cab...$350. I've read in a few places EV12Ls make pretty good frfr speakers. Maybe that could be another use for them. Ironic how i originally purchased Helix as an accessory for my tube gear, and now my tube gear pieces are IR accessories for Helix.
  23. Well played sir! Amps and features worth waiting for. Maybe I wont Mesa up my parts anymore with the new Cali IV amp ;)
  24. Line 6 has the new Cali IV paired up with the Cali 4x12 cab in the presets, which sounds great! I pulled a couple of older v3 experimental IR's I made of my Recto 212 and SM57 with a Mesa Mark V and a Mesa 290 amp. Both of these have the Mesa Simul-Class power sections similar to the Mark IV. I spent some time jamming them with the new Cali IV models and found that they are a great pairing. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f9foo2c5cdhn7x0/AACr3WBL3J1ZQkOVQ9RqN6Ega?dl=0 MesRec212_290_D5_2oa.wav MesRec212_MV_D5_2oa.wav Update - Soundclips added to Soundcloud comparing Cali IV, Fatality, and 2204 Mod with MesRec212_2ioaD_ST_EL34.wav https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/sets/helix-20-amps-irs In each of the clips, the Line 6 Factory Cabs are first. then the IR's. Link to main IR folder https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AADjdknZwdrze5VqaO7whHroa?dl=0 Now I definitely have inspiration and motivation to do new full sets of Recto 2x12 and Mark V 1x12 combo cab IR's with the 4 dynamic mics and the Mark V and Simul 290 power amp sections...as well as a great new amp model to test them with and optimize them for. I'll try to work on these this weekend. Thank you so much Line 6 for the great new Mesa Mark IV models as well as Snapshots and other new features! Such an great time to be a musician right now!!! P.S. Ugh...my wallet just cringed...I think I found a 90's Mark series 412 cab loaded with Mesa Black Shadow EVM's locally. It's open back top and closed back bottom. How cool would that be for IR's. I cant say I have ever seen IR's of this guy. Anyone wanna chip in ;)
