  1. +1 to the 3S Friedman 412 I also like their Mesa Road King (not their Recto) and their Port City 212.

  3. Read though this thread. Just a couple of other ideas. Is your motherboard BIOS current? Is your RAM all the same type and speed? +1 to setting the i7 clock to auto and not running OC for DAW apps. Also I know you said you tried different usb cables. But I had problems with popping and crackling when using a usb cable with ferrite choke (magnet ring). I had to switch to a plain cheap one.
  4. Thanks! Email sent. Love the videos!
  5. I noticed today that I couldn't store and recall split AB path settings with Snapshots. I tried to set the mix to 100% A in one snapshot, and 100% B in another and it doesn't seem to stick. Am I missing something? This could be handy.
  6. What I had in mind was the option to just have a single or dual parallel cabs and / or IR blocks assigned globally to the XLR outs rather than configuring and managing cabs on each patch. Placing a cab or IR on a patch could be a local override to the global cab. Maybe the Kemper Locked Block idea could handle it. Id be happy to reword the idea to something more beneficial...or we can let it die on the vine if no one else wants it. The idea of reserving a few IR slots for global cabs and configuring live patches to use them is growing on me. IR Slot 1: Global guitar live patches IR Slot 2: Global bass live patches I could clear out the IR slots for a Global "off" and copy the IR'S back (say from adjacent slots 3 & 4) for Global "on". I could handle high and low cut and other adjustments with Global Eq. Doesn't really help those wanting to use Helix Cabs globally, but it may work for me. I will try it soon.
  7. Those would be cool. We seem to have a good open community here for sharing and experimenting too. Honestly, I originally got into making IR's because I wanted the same sound I was getting out of Helix>tube power amp>guitar cab to the XLR / FOH, headphones, and DAW. I got a little carried away, went of on a tangent, and lost sight of the "why". I accomplished what I set out to do and shared the fruits. I had to take a step back as I was starting to look at purchasing cabs that I really have no room for just to make IR's of them. Figured the least I could do is share what I learned. Most of us have great gear. Might be kind of cool if Line 6 made a Custom Tone site for free IR's we create so we could enter metadata on them and make them searchable in our Line 6 ecosystem. User ratings could be useful too.
  8. Good point. I could reserve a group of IR's in the Helix IR list (last 4-8 or so) for Global IR's of my gear for my live patches XLR / FOH. I could swap those out if I change rigs or develop better IRs or IR mixes of my rig. The patches would update since Helix only respects the IR number, not the filename (maybe the first benefit I've seen to this feature). A global enable / disable could be just moving the IR's and leaving an IR empty slot. Could be a good workaround. Let me ponder that...
  9. Just posted this as Line 6 can certainly make HX Cab models of their own cabs so that Line 6 DT and SV owners can more easily have the same sound as their physical rigs to XLR / FOH, headphones, etc. Maybe it will save some loyal Line 6 owners some work and $. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Helix-Cab-Models-Of-DT-SV-Series-Cabs/831124-23508?submitted=1 I'm thinking it would be good to have both neutral and non-neutral ones made from the power sections of the DT power amp modes and SV power sections too. But no need to push the request beyond just the cabs for now.
  10. Candlebox - Far Behind Sad to see the 90's NTR go :( PS: Did you ever do BH Surfers - Pepper?
  11. Just checking to see if Helix users are interested in making IR's of their own gear. http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Line-6-Helix-IR-Utility/813669-23508 Non-FRFR amp/speaker Helix users (2CM, 4CM, etc.) can have the same sound to FOH as they do on stage with a split signal and IR's of their rig. Or they can have the same sound on no-amp gigs as they do on amp-allowed gigs, headphones for late-night patch creation, etc. Kind of a My Range-My Response (MRMR) approach to adjust Helix to your rig rather than change your rig to FRFR for Helix or other modellers. It would be nice for Line 6 to put out an IR utility, similar to Fractal Axe, but any user can either IR their own rig with some DAW tools and a deconvolver, or you could take your rig to your local studio and buy a couple of studio hours and have them capture it to. I would recommend capturing a non-neutral IR with whatever amp and speaker you are using with Helix, tube or solid state, if you are trying to get the exact same stage sound to FOH, headphones, DAW, etc. You can do this with just Helix, a mic (SM57, etc.), and the free trial versions of FL Studio and Voxengo Deconvolver. If anyone is interested, I can write it up and maybe make a video if I have time.
  12. Having the ability to define, adjust, and maintain say 8 Global HX Cabs and / or IR's, then be able to select Global 1-8 in the cab or IR blocks in the presets could address the need as well.
  13. The Point http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Helix-Output-Assignable-Global-Cab-Sim-Block-s/831111-23508?submitted=1 Create an output-assignable Helix Global Cab Sim block, similar to Global Eq, so that a single (or two parallel) IR or HX Cab blocks could be used on all patches as an option to assigning cabs on each preset. Optionally, having the ability to define, adjust, and maintain say 8 Global HX Cabs and / or IR's, then be able to select Global 1-8 in the cab or IR blocks in the presets could address the need as well. Users without an FRFR setup could easily select an HX Cab or IR similar to their traditional rig, or IR their own rig, and have the same sounds to FOH as they do on stage Globally. Instead of users modifying their rig for Helix, they could modify Helix globally for their rig. My Range, My Response (MRMR) instead of FRFR. You can currently accomplish this at a preset level, but I and other users may have hundreds of presets. I use a traditional guitar tube amp (power amp in) and guitar cab with Helix, and also a bass amp (effects return) and traditional cab with Helix. I have IR'd both of them with their respective poweramps and cabs to allow me to split the signal XLR with cab IR to FOH and 1/4" no cab to guitar or bass power amp. Using the IR's created from my stage rigs allows me to have the same sound to FOH as I do on stage. I currently have to manage this at the preset level, and I am getting close to 100 personal presets. Additional Reasoning and Babble I know there have been requests for Global Cab on/off, but with multiple Cab / IR settings on multiple patches (levels, cuts, etc.) I'm not sure that the results would be as good or as desirable as we might think. I think the expansive variety or HX Cabs and IR's are great for recording and experimenting. But for practical live use with a traditional guitar or bass rig and not an FRFR rig, Helix into the power section of my L6 SV HD100 amp and Recto 212 V30 cab, or effects return of my Mesa M9 bass amp & PH 2x12 cab, with no cab / IR models. Then place IR's I made of those rigs into a split path to XLR / FOH. It really helps with consistency across patches in the live mix as well. However, I do get in situations where I cannot use an amp and would like to just turn on a Global Cab Sim (GCS) without maintaining 2 sets of patches. To me this would be a single Global IR or HX Cab block, or maybe two blocks in parallel since great sounds are achieved this way. The GCS could be assigned to XLR, 1/4", Multi, etc. I would probably need 2-4 presets for this as I play guitar, bass, and acoustic guitar / double bass on different gigs. Out of all of the IR and HX Cab trials, frustrations, and time/effort consumption, I took a step back and asked myself what was I really trying to achieve for live Helix use. I think I am starting to become a bit jaded on the whole HX Cab vs IR implementation, and potential FRFR path. Different Helix amps through the same cab gives me plenty of tonal options without introducing the HX cab / IR variable for every single patch. I am perfectly happy with all Helix amps and effects running through the same physical guitar or bass cab for live use, and really am no longer feeling compelled to incorporate different HX Cabs and IR's for all of my live patches. Settling on a singe physical cab and corresponding IR and/ or HX Cab would remove that variable and save me a lot of time and tweaking. It would also make the setup and management of patches a little easier too. For me, I would set the Global Cab Sim up to sound most like my stage rigs for gigs that I cannot use amps (casinos, restaurants, etc.), or just to get my amp sound to FOH without mics, DI, etc. I have IR's I made of my stage rigs that would work really well for me, but others may just want to pick the HX Cabs or 3rd party IRs that are closest to theirs. For instance, my L6SV_R212_oa2D57.wav IR of my Line 6 Spider Valve MKII HD100 head and Mesa Recto 212 rig that I use live sounds just like the live amp mic'd and recorded. It sounds great with all Helix amps, and is a great FOH cab sim signal of my stage rig. I can actually create patches with it in headphones at night while I'm in the creative zone and know that they will sound great on my live rig. I would like to be able to globally adjust it and turn it on and off, like the Global EQ. Now what I might do to make the cab even more versatile is take the Mesa Road King route and put one Black Shadow C90 in it. IR both the V30 & C90, maybe with a couple of different mics, mix them into a single IR, and get even closer to amp in room or stage sound. But I digress... As has been stated before, the majority of the audience likely does not really notice the difference in cabs from patch to patch in a mix, nor do they likely care. They didn't complain when I was playing a whole show through the same amp and cab before Helix...at least now they and I can have different amps with Helix ;) I do currently split the path on all of my patches and send one to 1/4" no cab and one to XLR with cab with the same IR on all of them to simulate a global cab sim. I am starting to get in the neighborhood of 100+ patches, so an update or replacement to that block is a pain. It also makes auditioning different global cabs / IR's difficult too.
  14. I asked the same question a while back when I was considering a DT amp. The answer was yes...it can be done in the DT Edit or MIDI. I don't have a link to that thread offhand.
  15. Good point. Amplfi used prices are generally good. I guess it just depends into the size you are looking for. Andertons held up a Helix backpack next to the Amplifi 30 in their namm 2016 video. I swear it looked like the Amplifi 30 would fit in the front pocket.
  16. Thanks for posting this. I remember glazing over that info in another post months ago when I wasn't using the looper. Now I am into the looper more. Sometimes timing is everything with info. Thanks!
  17. Posted to IdeaScale http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Helix-Cabs-Mix-Control-For-Bass-Acoustic-DI/830995-23508 Add a Mix % control for Helix Cab blocks, similar to the Mix % control in IR blocks. This would facilitate an easy DI+Cab signal control. this is a pretty standard approach for live and studio bass, and could also be useful for acoustic guitars and other applications as well. Currently with Helix Bass Cabs, I have to put in a parallel path with a volume block to get a mixed DI+Cab signal. I don't have to do this with Bass cab IR's.

  19. I make low budget B-movies ;)
  20. Acoustic Simulator IR's based on the Amplitube 4 Acoustic Sim posted. They have a similar sound to a Boss AC-3 pedal with an electric guitar with mag pickups. They are made for electric guitar humbucker pickups (HB) and single coil pickups (SC). I think they sound best in the neck position. There are acoustic guitar 3 body types (1/2/3) and 3 top types (A/B/C) The IR block level should be around -5db to 0db instead of the Helix default -18db They work really well in front of the Helix Cali Bass (Mesa M9) amp model, as an acoustic amp model. I like it with no cab. I have posted a preset for Acoustic Sim IR use Link to Acoustic Sim IR's https://www.dropbox.com/sh/qit1ak8fxp5kqad/AAA6BwuVgBjg8Wx7IV0MsmYta?dl=0 Link to Soundcloud sample with Helix Cali Bass amp model https://soundcloud.com/michael-potts-995394155/helix-acoustic-sim-ir-and-patch-beta Link to root IR folder of all IR's https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lstuzn05tdpin9v/AADjdknZwdrze5VqaO7whHroa?dl=0
  21. Interesting and beautiful dilemma. Either way, you get to still enjoy both in some capacity. You should still retain the right to change your mind at any time ;) Dang, you are going to be the Helix vs AX8 expert!
  22. Just to muddy the waters for you, you might consider the $299 Line 6 Amplifi 30 as well. you can go 1/4" Phones out of Helix into the 1/8" Aux in of the Amplifi. It also has Bluetooth audio, a pair of 2-way speakers, and of course its own amps and effects too. It may even sound better. It's pretty small and portable as well. Check out some Youtube videos of both. IMO in the videos that I just saw, the Amplifi 30 sounded better than the iLoud with Amplitube.
  23. Ha, get a bigger pedal board and run both to expand your amp / cab library...Helix can handle the routing and control ;) Heck, maybe you could use the AX8 as a MIDI PC controller for Helix presets/snapshots and keep Helix in stomp mode all of the time.
  24. 3rd party IR's seem to be a very pure capture of an exact cab, speaker, mic, and mic position / distance that is also influenced by the amp and preamp used. There are often, tens or hundreds of captures required to get the combination for a complete pack too. Line 6 has stated in their Helix blog that their cabs start out as IR's. They somehow processed the IR's to make them "hybrid" and take up less processing, which sounds like a type of compression to me. Maybe their is also some EQ or other effects applied to gain back the "resolution of a 2048 sample IR". I also sometimes wonder if Line 6 is possibly cascading IR's of the cab into IR's of the mics, using distance and early reflection algorithms, or did they actually capture individual IR's traditionally of every cab with each mic and distance. I believe Amplitube does this to some extent in their Cab Room. You can actually swap each speaker in a 412 cab, and they have way more mics, which they also use in their Mic Room to apply to things like vocals and instrument tracks, etc. This would result in thousands of captures required, and I sort of doubt they did this. FWIW, I think there is something a little off about the Amplitube cabs as well when compared to IR's. I will say this though. I usually start with Helix Cabs when developing a patch. This at least gives me an efficient workflow to narrow down the cab, mic, and distance. Then I will put in an equivalent IR (3 Sigma, Redwirez, Ownhammer, or mine) in an IR block to AB. The IR doesn't always sound better. It is nice to have both options. Keep in mind that there is also the possibility that Line 6 has most neutral cabs and capture process, and we may be preferring some coloration of the various 3rd party IR's. This is all speculation in fun though. I feel so lucky to have this many realistic tools and options available. This is the first time I have ever felt I could gig and record with a single device and not be bound by the technology. The Helix is what we (or Glenn Delaune ;) ) make of it.

    Mesa EQ

I think the 5 band eq is both part of the Cali IV amp model and a separate effect block. I would imagine Line 6 kept the signal routing true to the amp. Were you wanting to hear it on a different amp?
